Not your arcade racing game.

There are two main responses to this game. You love it or you hate it. If you enjoy arcade style racing, such as Mario Kart, where you get bonus items, and you rarely have to use the break, this game is not for you. What this game is, is a driving simulator. You have to practice your skills for hours and hours to be able to win all of the races. You need to know which accessories are right for the car and track. You need to know how much to steer, how hard to puch the gas, where to tap the break, etc... In some of the professional level races, changing the height of your car by a few millimeters can mean the difference between winning or losing.

The graphics are outstanding. Some of the best I have seen in a video game. The cars are represented with great detail, and the background scenery is more than just the sky. It is interesting to go throung one of the city courses, such as Seattle, Tokyo, or Rome to look at some of the detail in the buildings. Much effort was put into this game, and it shows.

Only GT4 is better!!

The only driving simulator that is better is GT4. If your expecting an easy arcade like racer with Lambo's and dressed up import's go try NFS or some other title. Gran Turismo is the measure by which all racing game's are compared to, and justifable too. Realistic graphic's and physic's are great. Expect to take a lot of time learning to drive. This is not a casual racer. Only two comment's/annoyance's are the music and number of car's. 1. Cars: Or should I say lack of car'
s. I think there were more car's in the original Gran Turismo(not sure I could be wrong). Also I think that more of a variety of car's. After winning the 50th Nissan Skyline(not sold in USA) it get a bit annoying, lol. This is fixed in GT4 so don't worry too much(number of car's). 2.Music: Aside from Lenny Kravitz and Motley Crue the sound is pale in comparison to GT2(The best of Gran turismo soundtracks). This also goes for GT4(apart from Van Halen's-"Panama"). It seem's as if they spent so much time and effort on other area's and music was an afterthought. In the first two (GT and GT2) soundrtack's they were an integril(I know I spelled that wrong, lol)part of the experience. Only serious racer's and car nuts need to apply.

Very realistic, but wach out, it has it's cons

GT3 is overall very good. If you are into live auto racing, you will love this game. But this game is very picky. One little mistake and you could loose the race. You can't be flying around corners like in high speed police chace games, you need to be very precice. You need an expert on how to break, acellerate, and turn, or the whole turn will go wrong. So getting licences is basicly driving school. So if you want to get a fast action paced game like the Need for Speed games, get that, not this game.

This is not that great.

This game is seriously gorgeous, the shadowing is amazing. However there is no sense of SPEED! The whole point of a racing game is to go FAST! but it feels like I am racing turtles and not performance cars. It is really depressing to see your spedo at 144mph and your car is poking along like an old lady in a '88 buick.

can it get any better?

Although I haven't played this game, I was searching on here to buy it when I realized that it was given 4 stars. The demo was weak because of the fact it was really gt2000 back then. With the vast improvements in enviorment and lighting and climate techniques, gt3 will be the best simulation since gt2. I reviewed and studied the rest of the racing genre, but to much surprise, there was no big promises made from any other racing game except gt3. s type emotion driving thingy game is weak because I rented it, with much practice and lots of time, I got use to the realistic driving, but if you spin out a little you lose the game, I caught myself many times urging to throw the controller to the ground. I hope that gt3 will by far make this problem easier and then maybe progress harder as you go on.

I know I haven't played it but

two things that annoy me a bit are the way the cars bounce off everthing(if you tapped another cars bumper in real life you woudn't bounce back) and the tunnel like play-bounce off the walls, nothing is affected by the cars. Other than that it puts to shame every other game

Oh my gawd...

I was fortunate enough to find a machine with a demo of this game ..., and oh my god. There was only one track to race, and it took me three races to realize that I was anticipating the turns. The graphics were so good I didn't notice that it was good old Trial Mountain. ...

If you have a PS2 and want a GREAT racing simulator, this is it...at least until Gran Turismo 4 is available (sometime in 2004). Until then, get GT3 and race on!

This game is so cool. It is by far the best car game in circulation. It is also one of the better games for the playstation 2. I have almost no complaints except for how long the game is. Usually people drop scores for a game being too short. I'm not dropping the score but the game is way too long. Sure it will keep you busy but after a few months driving a car from gran turismo 3 doesn't just seem as fun. I play it regularly but when I do it's only one or two short races usually in arcade mode. I'm about 40% through the game but I have no intention on completing 100% of the game. The graphics are beautiful. The reflections fool you into thinking your driving a real car on real television. I seriously am not kidding. I just can't wait until Gran Turismo 4 comes out. It will have more cars, more tracks, and maybe I will want to complete 100% of it.

Great game, sometimes overly difficult

Gran Turismo 3 will certainly not disappoint, especially at the new low price of $20.

The graphics are amazing, every bit of power available in the PS2 is being used to run this game. It took about 3-4 years to develop GT3, and the quality from that shows.

The music is by actual licensed bands and artists, along with random Japanese techno songs. The music fits the game well, making good "driving music".

Gameplay is very smooth and realistic. Hence, it's not an easy game. It's actually too difficult at some points, for this reason, I have stopped playing the game, being not able to get the IB license. Licenses are required to get into the races later in the game.

The game is sometimes also rather tedious, as you will often be doing the same race over and over to generate enough cash to buy a better car that you can advance in the game with. This will be a major turn off for gamers with a short attention span.

Overall, it's a great buy, especially for $20 (I paid the $50 when it came out). There is a reason why this game was inducted into the Greatest Hits roster, and you will see that when you purchase this game.
