Good game. Underrated in reviews

This is a great game but falls short overall. The only thing is that you have to be very subtle with the shooting parts and very obvious with the sword parts. The game is lengthy (with about 45 minutes a level and 8 or 9 levels) and the story is good. The graphics are pretty good too but in some parts are look as bad as PS2. But the graphics aren't the important part because it's using the remote to shoot that's fun. If you are subtle with it you can make headshots and later you learn how to disarm them by shooting their guns off them.

If you got a Wii and want a good time waster and decent FPS get this game.

A game that had a lot of potential, and then just kind of......died.

Red Steel oozed potential, it could have been so awesome, I probably would have pre-ordered it had I owned a Wii at the time. Luckily I didn't, but my friend did, which allowed me to try it out before I spent $50 on it.

The graphics are probably the best part of this game. They're solid, and pretty good looking for a Wii title. This will probably remain to be one of the best looking games on the Wii with a focus on realism. Other games that do not focus on realism though, like Super Mario Galaxy or Super Smash Bros. Brawl, blow it away. The frame-rate can drop from time to time, especially when there's explosions going on, and the load times can be ridiculous, but overall the game runs relatively solid.

The soundtrack is pretty generic as far as I'm concerned. Nothing special here folks, but nothing dreadful either. The voice acting is pretty mediocre, and even offensive to the Asian culture at times, but that may be in part to the horribly written script.

The game-play is where this game should have really shined, but that is certainly not the case.The enemy AI is idiotic. The controls, where this game should once again shine, are actually quite horrible and barely work. A lot of the time, they will aim in the opposite direction of where you're pointing the Wii-mote. Don't even bother trying to fight in close quarters combat, well, unless you feel like a good laugh.

Just an overall big disappointment. Maybe they'll fix these problems for Red Steel 2, maybe they won't. Bottom line, stay away from this game unless you're truly desperate for something to play on your Wii.

If you are a fan of a shooter game, you should think about getting this ame. There is alot of good action. You are a body gaurd and your client and girlfriend gets kidnaped and basicly you are going around doing missions for Japanese gang leaders building up your respect and trying to save your girlfriend, by shooting everybody in sight. Good luck Scott-san!

Hi. Do you like fast first person shooters games, dynamic and with the possibility of use very different types of weapons ? Then this game is for you. Overall it's ok, it can be perfected but it going to give you a good time. Recommended.

Recomendado.

Parental note: There is no blood whatsoever in this game, except on the cover, but a fair amount of violence. IT dosent subtract from the game at all though. Basicly if you like this type of game, getIT.

Graphics: A- pretty great with a few small flaws. Love destructable environments

Controls: A++++++ Nothing to say

Sound: A+ Great use of sound from wii remote

Fun: A+++++ Definetly

Total:A- few annoying glitches aside this game is a great game, varried and fun. There are two different plot endings, and a whole lot of adventure

The Wii. It's an awesome console. Instead of concentrating on the latest and greatest in graphics and technicality, Nintendo's Wii was and is rather (attempting to) boast a "revolutionary" new controller and gameplay style, which is a refreshing idea itself. The controller design is a good idea, as it's more "realistic" than the PS3's and 360's, seeing as how it takes advantage of the Wii's motion sensor. Any movement you make (in most games, like "Red Steel" and "Wii Sports"), the same happens on screen.

I think out of all of the Wii games that I've played so far, "Red Steel" is the most entertaining, and it has a lot of promise..but it gives off the worst impression of the Wii remote. Ever. If you guessed that I'd be complaining about this game's controls, well, you're right. Oh, and by the way, YES, I DO HAVE THE SENSOR BAR in the appropriate place (in front of the TV, and it's aimed at where I sit to play games and watch television). Quite frankly, the controls are way too damn sensitive. Maybe it's the remote I use to play with (although I have it calibrated, and it works fine, otherwise, e.g. Super Mario Galaxy, Battalion Wars 2, Wii Sports, etc.), but every time I attempt to play this game, I have to put it on the lowest sensitivity possible, otherwise, I find myself spinning around in circles, and getting shot at. The controls take time to master, I suppose, but they can "get stuck", and can be very frustrating for a gamer, or heck, anyone, for that matter. Not to mention that when the controls get stuck in "turn left" or "turn right" mode, it can be almost impossible to get back to controlling "normally".

=(

I hope this sensitivity problem is under more control, or better yet, FIXED in "Red Steel 2", which is coming out in 2008.

Better luck next time, Nintendo and Ubisoft.

Find your inner Flailing Hamster

This game has a lot of promise, but the controls are painfully bad. I cannot fathom how many 5-star reviews this has received, especially when many of them comment on how the controls are difficult to master, can get stuck, and can be very frustrating. Not to mention that when the controls get stuck in "turn left" or "turn right" mode, it can be nauseating to watch.

Personally, I'm simply not interested in spending hours mastering the basics of a game that should be intuitive. Using the Wii controller to imitate swinging a sword should be completely natural. In this game it is just the opposite. Part of the problem is that they put both the camera "look direction" control and the sword control on the controller, and they don't play nicely together. It ends up that you have to use what I think of as the "flailing hamster" mode to swordfight, and that takes all the fun out of it.

The gunplay is mediocre. I've played much better on the PS2, and am spoiled by the GTA series to the point that I expect the aiming mechanism to be just as fluid and simple.

The graphics are surprisingly dated. Again, they're weak compared to the typical PS2 FPS. I don't really care about "pretty" graphics, but these are poor enough to deserve mention.

It could be that this game really needs a standard PS or XBox type controller, with lots of buttons and two joysticks. Too bad. It would be a fun game. I'm really looking forward to the Wii game where I can put down the shotguns, Uzis, and BFGs and just hack at a few bad guys with a sword.

My advice: Save your money and wait for something better.

Fun Only One Time Through

I bought this game a little while back even before I had a Wii. It seemed like the only shooter that was good for the Wii other than Call of Duty 3. The game itself was really fun the first time I played it. After awhile, though, it starts to slow down. The gun controls were very good, especially when using pistols and other small weapons. The sword fighting is another story. At first it is pretty fun, but you soon begin to dread this "minigame". They try to make it interesting with "Respect Points", but you can't even use these points to buy anything. In the end, this is a respectable game and will help people grasp the shooting controls of the Wii and have a little fun in between.

P.S. I personally would suggest The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Call of Duty 3 over this game, but that's just me.

First of all I want to say that this was the first game I got for the wii back when wii first came out and I don't know why some of you guys complain about the controls. It only took me 3 days until I was already a real samurai. This game actually has better graphics than most wii games that came out at that time. It has controls that are really fun and new. I also love the AI. It's very good and when one of your enemies is in your way just blow up a barrel and watch them fly. I think the story is simple but its done very well. I hope they even make a movie of it some day. It would be awesome. Since this game is so good all I know is the second one will be amazing!

I haven't gotten past the first level because the controls are so bizzare in this game. Buy something else and don't be this cheap.
