I have played this game on a demo, and trust me, it will {pull{ you in and not let you out. The graphics are by far the best i have ever seen. The game play is alot like zelda, with the Z-target style camera. Its fun, difficult, it has a ton of variety, and has every thing you could want in a game. This game is the best one out there, go but it.

I bought this ... game thinking it would be Starfox 64 or Starfox 1, but this game is [bad]. You dont get to fly at all!?! Nintendo just made a huge mistake, I thought Gamecube would be my last refuge for flying games since Ps2 makes their flying games too complicated, nintendo made their flight games flawless but I guess that is over now, no more flying games for me, ohhh soo angryyy!!!

Star Fox Adventures frustrated me, and sent me into a love-hate gaming territory I've rarely visited before. Even writing this REVIEW frustrated me. Because I loved some aspects of Star Fox Adventures, I loathed others with equal passion.

On the good side, Star Fox Adventures is beautiful to look at, from the finely rendered fur of the title character, to the supporting characters and several imaginative worlds and environments. It's also occasionally really, really fun to play -- with an enjoyable combination of space battles and creative quests. In these cases, the game has a very Zelda-like feel, and will be a joy for adventure gamers.

I also enjoyed the characters within the game and their development. Some don't enjoy Star Fox's cynicism or world-weary "I just want to get paid" attitude, but I liked it. It reminded me of Han Solo in the original Star Wars movies -- of the tough character with the heart of gold. I'm also in the minority because I frankly loved Fox's sidekick character Tricky -- a cuddly baby dinosaur who's brave, funny, and the closest thing I've seen on Gamecube to a GigaPet. Tricky adds a whole new level to the game because he must be kept fed and happy by feeding him various magical mushrooms at intervals, as well as giving him the occasional chance to play (where, if he's happy enough, he'll change color!). If kept happy, Tricky will not only help Fox in various tasks, but he's also a real help in battling monsters (he can flame them with his breath like a dragon). Tricky has really been brought to life with intelligence and humor -- he's fascinating to watch even when Fox is simply going through his latest fetch quest or series of tasks. At various times, Tricky may roll in the dirt, take a nap, cackle with glee, or offer consolation or support, nuzzling a scared dinosaur or alerting you to the presence of bad guys. I was a sucker for this character and really felt affection for him by the end (I know a lot of people found him annoying, though, so maybe I'm just a softie...)

But on the down side, most of the puzzles and quests are simply variations on the "fetch quest" theme, most involving carrying a barrel of some sort to some other point for access, etc.

The most frustrating thing of all, however? The immense gaps in difficulty between tasks. One quest you're given might be laughably easy -- while the next task, whether it's a Test of Strength or a speeder chase -- might be so hard as to be unwinnable. The game's Saves are doubly infuriating for this reason, as they're chapter-oriented versus task-oriented. This means you might surpass 3/4 of the tough tasks in one section, quit and save your progress, yet come back later to find you have to replay the entire section again.

The Tests of Strength in particular are simply sadistic -- ultimate button-masher challenges which require the repeated pressing of the A button as fast as possible (and I mean FAST). They're horribly difficult and not much fun, and really hard if your controller doesn't have an autofire capability. I finally only beat these by "cheating" after a fashion -- moving a pencil back and forth very quickly across the A button at lightning speed.

Even worse (for me at least) were two tasks near the game's end, in Dragon Rock, involving shooting down masses of enemy planes as they pour toward you -- one at a time -- while protecting the slow and hapless dinosaurs you have to ride at the same time. The first variation of this task (on the back of a slow bronto) I barely got through after two or three days of trying. The second, in which you have to shoot down four different pillars in turn (at over 15 hits per pillar to bring it down) all while avoiding hordes of enemy ships? After two solid weeks of trying, I could not do it. Luckily I have a friend who's a stellar FPS gamer who was able to barely squeak by this point for me (and she took several hours to do it because the odds are so stacked against you). For younger players or less experienced gamers, this particular task brings the game to a grinding halt. There is simply no way to get past this impossible (and impassable) task. Same with some of the speeder races or timed quests -- some of them are babyland-easy, others may take what feels like endless repetition before you are able to progress in the game.

These wildly erratic gaps in difficulty mean if you can't get past the latest really really tough task, you're permanently through. And moments like this just sucked the fun right out of the game for me, despite the fact that I loved other areas (like a spooky moonscape, a seaside town, and the main dinosaur hub city).

It's a shame. The game is beautifully rendered and has its good points, but it could have been so much better.

In this ultimate display of the indomitable capabilities of the Gamecube, you will be allowed to control the almighty Starfox not only in his magnificent aircraft, but in first person. This game will undoubtedly be one of the Gamecube's masterpieces which defines the newly achieved standards of game development by providing a plethora of gameplay capabilites with the most superbly detailed graphics in the industry. In simplest terms, buy this game.

Do not be fooled by these sometimes one-dimensional reviews. Graphics do NOT make a game. This game has some of the most awe-inspiring graphics around, but sadly, gameplay content is seriously lacking. Some people are comparing this to the Zelda series. Do not be fooled by this comparison. While the game TRIES to be like Zelda, it fails. The puzzles are simple and the tasks are mundane. I can't say I have ever played a more boring game. At least the Zelda series is fun.

And then there is your "partner".....read "moron." Your little dinosour friend is a mojor pain and it seems like you are always babysitting him.

This game was almost a finished N64 game and then the head honchos at Nintendo decided to add the fox character and release it for the gamecube. The "flying" missions seem pasted in and don't seem to fit. Oh, and if you have beaten Star Fox 64, you have beaten the ending boss to this game.......

Do yourself a favor and pick up Zelda the Wind Waker instead of this garbage. It has great graphics AND gameplay.

incredible game

Great graphics, good music, and great gameplay. You don't have to backtrack very much (always a good thing). The combat is a little too easy, but the game is more about problem-solving. It's pretty much a Zelda clone, but I like it much more than the Zelda games. The environments are all really great, and you get different abilities throughout the game so it stays interesting. I guess it's a medium length game, but I was so addicted to it that it didn't take me more than a couple weeks.
I had played the old Star Fox games for N64 and SNES, and I was a little disappointed that this one didn't have very much aerial combat. But then again, I wasn't expecting much, and I don't think the game really needed it to be great.
It's worth getting a Gamecube just for this game and Super Smash Bros Melee.

A Grand Adventure

Star Fox Adventures is a beautiful game filled with many challenges and puzzles. The voice acting is done very well and helps show the creatures personalities. The storyline is well thought out and as you approach the end of the game you really want to know what will happen. A few twists in the storyline help keep everything new and fresh, as well as diversity in physical landscape and game play.

The Graphics:

Easily some of the best work on the Gamecube so far. Every land has it's own personality and is very detailed. Water looks really nice with realistic movement. Characters in Star Fox are very diverse and plentiful on Dinosaur Planet ranging from the triceratops looking Earthwalkers, to the winged Cloudrunners, to the peaceful Thorntail tribe.

Game play:

The controls of the game are not hard to master; they work about like that of Zelda for the Nintendo64. Targeting is automatic and fighting doesn't involve careening into enemies, weapons flailing; instead you need to block and dodge incoming attacks and try to open your opponents' defense so you can get in your attacks. Fox McCloud moves smoothly and I have not seen a single camera error. What makes the game really interesting is how there are so many different aspects of playing. You are sometimes fighting Sharpclaw on the ground with your staff, other times shooting asteroids, power-up boxes, and enemy ships in your Arwing starfighter. Other times yet you are keeping yourself sane from illusions in a Krazoa Spirit test, or shooting fire bolts from your staff, while riding a brontosaurus type dinosaur, at incoming missiles.

Sound:

Some of the best voice acting I've heard in any game. The voices really help build the character of the different creatures and makes them seem more believable... well, maybe a wooly mammoth speaking in a British accent isn't really that believable... but it adds to them and is much more interesting then reading speech bubbles in your head. Also the music, although not orchestral, is done surprisingly well, and helps shape the mood of the environment very well, from the peaceful dwellings of the Thorntails to the fight against a giant Red Eye dinosaur running through a small chamber after you.

About the Game:

The diversity of the levels is amazing. I think Rare has included almost every environment imaginable: hot volcanoes, cold and snow filled regions, lush forests, Aztec looking ruins, a moonscape, and other dungeons and temples. The levels are long and involved with plenty of puzzles to work through, and I had to start a second file just to go back and find all the secrets.

Overall I can't think of any complaints except for wanting the adventure to go on even further... The game was extremely enjoyable and I hope there will be a sequel sometime soon to carry on Star Fox's journey.

This is an amazing game, by an amazing company. Rare did a great job on this, every little bit is fun. Learning this game is very easy, anyone can pick this up and play. The fact that Slippy, Peppy, and General Pepper help you though the game is a plus! It's like a game and guide all in one! This can be a short game, it can take a few days to complete. This game has some good replay value, and the puzzle's in this game are challanging at times. I would suggest that every GC owner should take a look at this one, don't pass this offer up!

Wow! I mean WOW!! This is some amazing material here people! I mean, not only is the plot interesting, challenging, and keeps you glued to the tv, but the graphics are...I don't know how to say it, INCREDIBLE!! The detail! THE DETAIL!! Every hair on Fox's fur, the waving grass, glimmering water, weather changes-from storms to blustery winds, blizzards, misty mornings, beautiful sunrises and sunsets- I don't know how they did it! And the music, some of the best EVER for a game! A lot of people say this is a Zelda rip-off, well I don't really think so. Yes it is close in comparison, but not the same! So don't judge it by that. This game provides hours of fun, stimulating challenges-you really have to think and observe, great adventures, awesome design and characters (besides Tricky-I like beating on him with my staff). Voice-acting is great, and expressions are so life-like! So get this game and prepare for an awesome adventure!
