A Thoroughly Wonderful Roleplayig Experience

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5
Date: May 13, 2000
Author: Amazon User

All in all, the game is wonderfully entertaining. True RPGers who love good stories, interesting cities, and lots of character options will love this game. It's greatest advantage, much like the first game, is that players have the option of recruiting 108 characters, you get a great home base, and lots of mini-games.

Among the improvements on the game (from the first one) are better tactical options, multiple endings, and the option of loading your "saved game" from the former game. The great advantage to this is that it enables you to recruit your hero McCloud from the first game.

Another wonderful novelty of the game is that it actually picks up where the previous game left off. So many of your beloved characters from the first game make an appearance, including Flick and Viktor.

The games biggest drawbacks are that it has inferior graphics to many of the leading RPG games, there still are no weapon shops only "sharpening places," and magic can only be used in limited amounts. I was also very disappointed with the Heroe's rune, which wasn't nearly as cool as the Cursed Rune from the first game.

On an interesting note, the game isn't as tragic ridden as the first one. In my opinion the story is, therefore, weakened. The first game was strengthened by the sagas of Ted, Gremio, Master Teo, Wendy, and Mathiu. In its stead, however, is a buddy tale. The most annoying part of which is the sister, who you can't seem to shake.

All in all the game is a Must Have for Role Playing Enthusiasts.

251.51 for a cd?

I think Suidoken is great game, i highly reccomend all their work, but unless they plan on delivering the cd via viking boat themselves, the price is a bit too steep.

I'll assume the price is a error, and this is my half-assed attempts at humor.

So, once it's fixed do yourself a favor and order it.

Suikoden 2 is a great game, and I'm glad I grabbed a copy way back with the guide, maybe I should sell my copy and take a tropical vacation. Seems that these rare games are developing into collectors items more than games now. If you really want to spend $100+ on a game your bordering on nuts, but buy suikoden part 1 cause its vital to fully enjoy this game. However this game is beautiful, deep, and captivating. I have played it thru several times, you can even load your original suikoden data if you gathered the 108 stars in that game to add storyline and events to this title. Greatest Rpg series ever a must for a true rpg fan/collector.

Suikoden 2, a Reliable Sequel

For those who haven't played the first Suikoden, you may not understand at first, but if you have, you may never play it again. With extraordinary graphics and a new addition, FMVs, this is the game to play of the two. 3 different endings, 119 characters to recruit (11 more than last time, including a few surprises for veterans), and a new supply of items, such as Obentos, which heal 650 HP! As I said before. This is the game to play. Highly recommended by this gamer!

Great 2D RPG just like the first

Suikoden 2 is a good series. You have a castle, more than 108 characters, and a great rpg game for beginners and experts alike. The game is straight forward and easy to learn

A worthy sequel

Just like the first Suikoden, what I like best is the variety this game offers. I don't get tired of using the same characters all the time, and although its true that with some many characters in one game, they become rather shallow. But Suikoden II try to make up for that, with sub quests and the ability to gain people's secrets, you get to know each character fairly well. Story is good, and the 2D graphics isn't bad either, make it a pretty good RPG package, pick it up when you have the chance. Overall score, 88 out of 100.

Classic Fun RPG

Suikoden II ties as my favorite RPG. While it is not the most challenging game, it is a fun quest to take. The "Hero" is taken through his boyhood into maturity as he learns about the closeness of his family and the deceit of friendship. A cast of 108 playable characters and side quests, plus a large map and a buildable castle, this RPG kicks linear games in the (...). The graphics are anime influenced, and in my opinion very cute. Magic spells, cooking reciepies (and a sort of "iron chef" mini game), sculpting, baths, painting, teleporting, and tons of other little quirks to get your hooked into the world of Suikoden. I recomend this game to any RPG'er, new or old, as it will be fun for all.

Betrayal between a country and its armed forces. loytalty between two friends, cant overcome ones loyalty to his country. This is Suikoden II. One of the all time great playstation games. the story line is basic just as the first one is. but there is more to do here in the land of highlands than in the scarlet moon empire. the castle really takes form and you can have cook offs and also fish with yam koo and tai ho (yep they are back). with many characters from the first suikoden included you will have hours of fun in this game. also yuber makes another mysterious appearance in another installment. this is a must play and its worth the $100 dollars you are going to spend to get it.

Learned how great it was in time.

Suikoden 3 does not suck, however compared to Suikoden 1 and 2, it is not that great. I remember playing 1 again for the 108 stars of destiny, then playing 2 for the 108 stars of destiny, and after doing it, I realized how terrific of a game this is.

Suikoden 1 and it feel extremely alike, you can still love the characters, and the relationship between Joey and Hero is tremendously powerful. Now, I didn't fully appreciate the ending until I got the good one. There are 3 different ones. One is lame, one is semi okay but sad slightly, and the best one is a tremendously great and happy ending, even sad to see it end so well.

The game plays just like number 1, if you are query me about number 1 because you don't want to play it, shame on you. You should go find suikoden 1 somewhere and play that first, otherwise forget reading this review. Ok so you can meet up with alot of new characters, old ones, and there are new minigames. The castle is large, but easy to get around. It gets better and better as you get more guys and progress more. I loved the army chef battles, a parody off the iron chef show. The fighting was tremendously fun. With great runes that tell damage and healing factor, and great sprite animations.

I really don't want to give anything away. There are different things you can do to make different outcomes, I would play it once without cheating, and then play it again with a faq to get the best ending. You can do different things sometimes that actually affect the outcome. You can even run away or back out of stuff.

Mass battles are fun in this one. First game had awesome battles, but this one has extremely nice ones, that are fun, and slighlty addictive as you get more characters and new things to try out.

Get the game, have fun with it. Enjoy the 2d suikoden games forever if you can.
