This game is so awesome imagine you are in dark times you can use a wizard (a magical folk) a fighter (hand to hand combat) or many other characters. There are 3 realms albion, hibernia, and midgard, they are all even except each has 1 thing that the other doesn't you can interact with other people in all the realms and u may battle in a group but you wont gain a level until u get a certain amount of experience Have Fun! and o yeah dont die alot hehe if you see me in realm vs. realm you better look out!

/agree with above, except....

They've nerfed the snot out of every class for the most part, and the "Unique" realm abilities are now pretty much gone as well.

It's a fun game, but Mythic doesn't have a clue of how to balance a game...

Fantastic MMORPG. For those of you who don't know that means Massively Multiuser Online Roleplaying Game. And yes it is online. There's no single player version of the game. A lot of people get confused by that.

The basic concept is that you pick a server on which to play (typically the best is to choose a server that is low population at around 5:30 - 6pm EST. You'll see what i mean once you go through the account setup). After you pick the server you pick your realm:

Albion - The Camelot in DAoC. This realm is based on Arthurian Legend and a lot of the class based 'epic' quests deal with the rising forces of Morgana LeFay and the like.

Midagard - Norse legend here. The hulking Trolls, the bulky Norse, and the vertically challenged kobold are teamed up in defense of this realm.

Hybernia - More of the 'Fairy Legend' somewhat celtic in nature I suppose. Here you have the Elves, Humans and Halflings (called Lurikreen) fighting to defend the realm.

Each realm has its strengths and weaknesses for example Midgaard has the better Fighter Classes, Albion the better Healing classes and Hybernia the better Wizardly classes.

As you work you're way up in level they have dungeons and mini 'RvR' (realm vs. realm) areas to play around in. RvR is fun in that you encounter people's characters from other realms (i.e. you're a Midgardian fighting Hybernians and Albionians).

The game is rich with quests and encounters and I've found it to be much more friendly than Everquest (the other players are nicer).

Excellent game if you like or would like to try the true on-line gaming experience.

Also, in comparison to EverQuest, this game caters to everyone from the powergamer to the 1-2 time a week player. I often find logging on with only 15 minutes to play just as fulfilling as when I have 15 hours =)

This Game Rocks

I Thought I might try to write a more descriptive review then some of these others. The game deserves it. First of all this game does rock. There are 3 diverse realms, or countries you can call your home. Once you've chosen that, you can choose between many variety of races, and professeions. You fight monsters in the typical 'hack and slash' manner to gain levels and new skills, but you can also go on quests for such experience. Thats nothing uncommon to a game like this. What sets this one apart is RvR. Realm versus realm combat. Each of the 3 realms group together with fellow guildmates, and friends alike, to go on massive (iv'e seen 200 live people in a raid or more) raids to try to besiege and take realm keeps. These are keeps in a designated area known as the Frintieer, or no mans land. Here you fight epic sized battles with sometimes as many as 200 people on each side, or on all 3 sides, fighting over controll of keeps. There are also relics that can be taken from these keeps giving bonuses to the whole realm that owns them so long as they do. When you make a kill in RvR you dont gain experience, or loose it when you die; but you gain 'realm points'. When these are enough, you gain a realm rank which gives you points to spend on special "realm skills" which generally are really cool. These skills make it a benifit to participate in RvR, but no one would be required to do it. Unlike other games where you have 1v1 (or 3v1 as I've seen)PvP style, that quickly gets old when you cant turn it back off until some timmer wears down.... Over all this game really does a great job, it will be interesting to see how the expansion changes this already exellent game.

I laughed, I cried, I passed out from boredom. The game has always been almost complete. SI appears to make it almost more complete. It's almost enough to stick with it. There is only so much to do before you are back doing it all again. Once you have done it all a few dozen times there is nothing more to do. I even voted Dzza for TL a few times with no real in game impact. The Vaun/Kunkoh star quests and Shaggy/Space battles are the only things new and fresh at this point. If they would only balance out the VN aspect I would call the game more complete. Hot celt women make it more enjoyable, but they always kill me. Oh well. Cheezits anyone?

I spent 6 months with this game and found it to be lacking in some rather important areas.
Advancement is tedious at best. You'll be bored stiff with the same critters by the time your able to take on bigger game. I'm a conservative player and I still racked up dozens of deaths nightly. As for better loot/gear, theres no such thing. you use what's designed for your level. period.
The guild system is poorly thought out which brings troubles to the fact that to level at any resonable rate, you MUST play in squads. Fellowships are darn near mandatory. If your a solo player you'll stay well behind the growth curve here.
The up side to the game is that it runs fairly stable, has good interface, and is a charming and attractive world setting. If your a "gee wizz the graphics are great" kind of player, then have at it. If your more concerned with gameplay, wait for the next generation of mmorpg's to arrive.

The game is not fun. It has nice graphics but they're never enough to carry a game. After all this time the game still has major coding flaws and failures like line of sight (which totally ruins and invalidates many major aspects of the game like sieges.) The classes will never be balanced. Population dispersement is a major issue when you have 3 realms with x, y, and z amount of people that can't switch sides. What happens when x + y < z? Z wins. Forced teams were a very bad idea.

Once you hit the max level, 50, the game is over. There's nothing to do. This new expansion is nothing more than a weak attempt at encouraging current players to reroll as a new class or race in order to keep them occupied until they reach the nirvana of boredom that is DAoC's post-50 endgame.

Save your money, a new crop of games are coming out in this genre over the next 6 months. Play Tetris while you wait.

Mythic is a horrible company. They are in it for the money. With all the nerfing, broken promises and extremely poor PR (Sanya) its obvious they don't care one bit about the game. Money is better spent elsewhere. This expansion is just a graphic upgrade and things Mythic promised would be free but instead are forcing people to purchase the expansion.

If you got the game get it If u dont buy the game and get it

DAoC kicks major butt. If you dont have it you need to buy it. The graphics in the empansion are incredible and the new stuff will make the game even better. If you wanna start a MMORPG, DAoC is the best out there.
