Don't get me wrong, DaoC is a great game and I have two accounts and 14 toons to attest to this fact. The good news, at least for those just entering the game, is that you'll have an easy time immersing yourself in the game, at all levels. The bad, for long-term gamers, is that Mythic has made all of those levels, Master Levels and achievements that took you months and months of work MUCH easier for noobs to achieve, without actually giving you anything in return (you DO get the nice title of "Elder" if you've player for four years or more). Given the ridiculously exaggerated prices for artifacts and scrolls achieved through Atlantis (now available for free download along with the basic DaoC software and Shrouded Isles expansion at Mythic's site), Mythic has made scroll drops vastly easier, and dramatically increased the cost of repairing artifacts (in addition to adding Epic Armor in Catacombs that comes close to approximating artifact quality, and which anyone can, and almost has to, get as part of general class quests).

It's genuinely sad that Mythic, rather than responding to its long time, loyal customer base, has chosen to pander the game to potential new subscribers. It wouldn't be such an issue if something were done to balance this, like giving long-time players some advantages in crafting (getting an LGM "has never been easier"), or benefits for toons leveled prior to the Task Dungeons of Catacombs (where "leveling has never been easier"). Sadly, this is not the case, and new subscribers continue to join, which is, in some ways, great news. What should concern them, however, is one day they'll be veterans, like the rest of us, and will find out first hand how deaf Mythic can be to that group.

Shrouded Isles

Shrouded Isles offers some new pve areas to the original DAOC areas, also lets you teleport to different places. Can't say I like the way the game has gone since this came out, in '02 or so, began to feel too restrictive, maybe gated would be a better word. It's a good expansion of the original game. I'd have prefered player controlled horses, or something, to the teleporters. Travel is centered around teleporters now, especially with new frontiers(free expansion for rvr).

Broken expansion and broken patches

After purchasing a second PC to play this game I purchased an upgraded video card just to load this expansion.

What followed was two months of troubleshooting, trying to solve the problems with patches 1.58 and 1.59.

I finally gave up and cancelled both of my accounts. Mythic and their "tech support" was no help.

Although I did enjoy the game when I was able to play, the constant updating of the software is a problem when there is little apparent testing of new code.

A good thing just keeps getting better

Well, people.. If your thinkin' about buying a first/third person multi massively RPG with over 20 000 people playing, on a series of servers packed with game play and pve (player versus enemy..like robot enemies..lol not living people, just put in the game) and also pvp (player versus player, where you do at castle sauvage when your level 15 or above) this game is for you. I used to have a pentium 2 300 mhz, my friend showed me this game and literally drooled over it.. but now I have it.. And I love it. I'm addicted to it. Summer hours I played over 9 hours aday, on school days I play atleast 8..It's seriously a good game and one of them that you can learn with ease and not struggle to understand and work. :) thats my review. there is tons of people out there willing to help you, just remember, if you take, please give :) Shimosy Isuelt level 17 scout |

If you have never played this type of game, DAOC is for you. I thought is was pretty dumb when my boyfriend brought it home. Now I am addicted.

Of course, I had some good luck. I am in a great guild with really cool people. I have really enjoyed my experience.

If you are choosing between this and SWG buy this one. SWG is boring and complicated. You can get into this game quickly and really start to enjoy it.

Nice addon.

Not bad. Nice changes to the UI. New lands are impressive. I am pretty burnt on the MMORPG character-level treadmill, though, so my interest in the game itself suffered.

Hated EQ, Hated UO, Loved DAOC

I bought DAOC on a recommendation from a co-worker who swore up and down that I'd love this game. I did the Ultima Online thing only to despise it and waste hours/days of my time trying to figure it out. EQ was frustrating until I found someone willing to give me a ... load of magic stuff that would finally help me move forward.

DAOC was an entirely different story.

From the beginning on the Bedevere server I found that I was able to easly get through the newbie levels, the specilization portion was extremely cool and I managed to go from a complete newbie lvl one toon to a lvl 50 Mana Enchanter within six months of real time, or about 14 days of player time.

Can't highly recommend this game enough.
