Well, what can I say but that this game is and absolute must have. If you love the old style of mech warfare incorporated with fast and furious hack and slash action then this one is for you. Even If it is not to your tastes just get it for the Metal Gear Solid 2 playable demo which has to be the most anticipated game of all time. If you ask me there would have to be something very wrong with you If you passed up an opportunity like this, to not only own the coolest mech combat game to grace any console but the chance to get an early taste of MGS2.

Good game but....

I think the game is good overall. It has nice graphics, good enough sound effects as well as a deep storyline. Also its very easy to manuever the Jehuty. In other words, a good rapid non-stop action game. The only drawback in the game is the fact that it lets you wanting for more in terms of storyline. Just when you think the story is going to get deeper and better, the game's over. And, for you hardcore gamers, play the game on its maximun difficulty, or else it won't last long.

This game is one of a kind. Its very faced paced, really unlike any other mecha game, and if you like any MS Gundam stuff, you will definetely like this game. This game definetely deserves a 4 star rating (I'll tell you why I gave 5 later). It sports some great graphics (once again, that can be improved greatly with the monster 200 or 300 cable), has great gameplay and a good story. Downsides are that it has a lack of enemy diversity and the enemies get to be repetative and that it is very short.

Heres why I gave it a 5. METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY DEMO! Thats the ONLY reason why it got a five! I'm telling you this is one of the best parts of buying this game! The demo sports great gameplay, GREAT graphics (look pretty sharp even without Monster cable enhancement) great music by the guy who did the music for enemy of the state, and lots of replay value. You will want to play it over and over. If you do everything, the demo will take you about an hour to complete! Buy a gameshark 2 for some extra treats also! But of course this isnt just a 50 dollar demo. ZOE is a good games aswell.

MUST BUY

Great Game

Zone Of The Enders is a great game even though i only bought it for the demo of Metal Gear Solid 2. Zone Of The Enders has some of the best graphics that i have seen on Playstation 2. You are Leo and you take control and pilot a giant Orbital Frame, to battle against giant mechs in this fast and furious action game. Try it in the shop and im sure that you will buy this game

Great Showcase of what PS2 can do

Zone of the Enders looks like it's going to be one of the PS2's "sleeper hits". Everybody bought it for the MGS2 demo, but ZOE itself is quite the game:

Gameplay - Fast and furious. The premise is simple, as you fly around to various towns, clearing out enemy Frames (mechs), and saving the colonists. The control is extremely tight, and very easy to pick up, even if it does use every button on the controller (hey, controlling a full-size mech can't be THAT easy, can it?). The lock-on system during combat keeps you from losing track of your enemy, which is a good thing. During one-on-one combat, both mechs will be all over the screen faster than you can blink. There's also a large amount of different moves your mech (a prototype named Jehuty) can perform, ranging from simple gun or sword attacks to advanced sub-weapons or the unique "decoy", which can throw bosses off of your tail for a few precious seconds.

Story - It's a little bare, unfortunately. It does have some neat twists now and again, but the emphasis on this game is in the gameplay and action. The game is also a little short (can be beaten in under 6 hours), but this keeps it from getting too repetitive.

Graphics - Probably some of the best the PS2 has seen so far. While it doesn't have any antialiasing, it's at a high enough resolution that this doesn't really affect the gameplay at all. Even with all of the high detail, the game runs at a constant 60fps with some amazing lighting and particle effects. Watching the whole screen blur as you miss a shot and destroy a nearby building is impressive to say the least. EGM mentioned a while back that this game is the first PS2 offering that Dreamcast cannot duplicate, and I tend to agree. Extreme detail, lighting, effects, all running at 60fps and extremely FAST during battles.

Multiplayer - Yes, it has multiplayer deathmatch once you beat the game (which doesn't take too long, as I've said). The interesting thing is that there is no splitscreen: Both mech's are on the same screen, like a huge sprawling 3D fighting game. These battles tend to get very hectic, since human players offer much more unpredictable moves than the CPU players.

All in all, you can't go wrong with this game. It's short, but it's a very fun ride while you're playing, with some of the best graphics that PS2 has seen.

Oh, and it comes packed-in with a playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 2, but I'm sure you know that already. But this is a ZOE review, so I won't go into MGS2.

RENT IT!!!! You'll pass it in UNDER five hours!

Firt off, I must say that this is truly an AMAZING game. It is by far one of the most beautifully made games that I have ever played and the control scheme is nothing short of stellar. Also, I have to say that I had a lot of fun playing it and I didn't want to put the controller down. However, after under five hours, I was forced to put the controller down, because that is how long it takes to beat the game.

ZOE really does demonstrate the cababilities of the PS2, however, for a game that was sooooo hiped up, I am left with a complete feeling of disapointment. As soon as the plot begins heating up, the game ends. Even worse is the fact that the game ends with NO resolution to the story. EVEN MORE WORSE is the fact that the game ends BEFORE you get to participate in the battle that they talk about from the VERY begining of the game.

This is truly an AWESOME game and EVERY PS2 owner should take a look at it. However, don't bother purcahsing it, because a five day rental from Blockbuster will give you ample time to pass the game four or five times.

On a more positive note, the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo is AMAZING!!! However, as we have seen with ZOE, even if a game is truly a great technological feat, it can still be a disapointing experience if the programers spend so much time on the graphics and gamplay that they forget to actually program a game!

The funniest looking robots I've seen!

My friend bought this game...and he bought it just for the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, more or less...I have seen it and played it. Yes, it's a fantastic demo...but regardless, you will not see me pitching nearly $50 for a demo, I don't care how good it is...but that's just me. There are people out there that do win lotteries and can afford to buy a MGS2 even if it costs almost a hundred dollars.

Now on to the game that is to be reviewed...Zone of the Enders. This has to be about one of the best PS2 games I've ever played. It was overall a very fun game and it definitely grabbed my attention from the intro and on.

So why not five stars? Well, I don't believe in a perfect game out there and there are reasons that keep me from really saying "WOW!" to this game.

I really think that yes, the game was very short. I was in a state of temporary shock when I saw the credits. I couldn't believe it. And I will agree with a lot of the other reviewers, Leo is about the biggest wuss and fruitcake I've ever seen in video game history. I can't believe how he managed to stumble into the Jehuty frame in the first place and all I can say is that Leo's rather fortunate that ADA didn't have emotions or he would've gotten ejected out of Jehuty, then shot into ashes then stepped on like a roach for good measure.

Those were the nagging ones for me. A few minor gripes were just a bit of repetitiveness as the game progressed...true, you do end up fighting the same frames throughout, though they tend to level up. I don't know about the lack of challenge that I read about, unless all you did was play the game on Easy. Hard was a bit challenging for me and I know I can't do the Very Hard difficulty to save my life. But then again, I also have a life besides PS2 Land and I am not what you would call the perfect gamer. I think that more interesting things could've been a bit more variety of enemies and maybe a bit more of a chance to kind of "upgrade" your frame with more weapons and skills, besides looking at a couple of frames with Predator technology.

At least I'm glad that when they were talking about attacking a microwave field the enemy created, it wasn't really at all that easy as it first sounded like. And though there weren't many boss encounters (thank goodness!), each encounter was original, creative and at my skill level, I really had to try to blow these guys up. And all that hard work put in just to have that little pansy Leo spare the pilots' lives.

One thing that I did notice in this relatively short game which I finished in four hours is that it is wide open for a sequel. It was way too short and even your final encounter, I don't think it would be right to ever leave that a loose end...especially when ADA says, "You two are not destined to meet yet." ZOE might be new to KCE and Konami...I don't know, I don't follow too much what they make these days. They are more likely waiting for a lot of constructive feedback from us to make what appears to be an evident sequel much better than the first. After all, it appears that's what they did with Metal Gear Solid 2.

Regardless, this game has a lot going for it. I liked the battles that were extremely dynamic but not as disorienting as Omega Boost, I feel. I love the great attention to detail that was rendered. And even with its rating when it comes to how much "collateral damage" an area suffers, there is always some deep nagging to perhaps try it again and see if you can do better...and also the nagging to go ahead and put those innocent people out of their misery, depends on your sense of humor. Everything was so beautifully rendered, even the background of the city beyond your limits, everything flowed and rotated dynamically when in battle without any noticable skips or lags. Everything was great. The music was also really cool, I liked it.

And speaking of humor, I also want to congratulate the makers of this game. To have the humor reagarding the cockpit's location and actually get away with it. I like how it appears the pilot "springs" into action in the first little cinematic when leaving the first area. Gives new meaning to the term "cockpit."

So for the great potential for becoming a sequel...give Jehuty, or whatever other frame there may be, a wider array of skills and weapons. We might as well also keep ADA, since Leo seems to suffer a lot of withdrawal problems without the program. Give a more involving and lengthy storyline. And for all of us that aren't fruitcakes that squeal like girls when we cut ourselves shaving, at least give us a choice of what to say if that wuss Leo is going to appear in it. If not, I guess Mr. T will do. Or better yet, have Celvice abandon the loser and he'll have no choice but to kill himself before the next game's launch.

Just my humor. To be fair for everyone, these PS2 games aren't cheap (unless you beat my $10,000/yr. salary)...so since different people have different tastes, I always recommend your rent or borrow from a friend who threw out $50 just for a demo and see whether you want to spend your money the right way.

Its fun to beat up robots

I have to say I am a huge fan of fighting robots. I dont care if it is anime style or comedy central zanniness. there is something sweet about fighting robots. This game does an admirable job of fitting the bill. The controls and graphics are both superb. It is fun to play. There are two problems, 1st it is repetitive and second, the story is pretty bad. I mean cheese. Not a nice cheddar either, smelly rocquefort (spelling). I think you will enjoy playing the game and it might even be a buy if you love the genre like me, otherwise you would do best to rent. Also, it comes with a demo for metal gear solid that is awesome. In fact it might be better than the main game -- I dont know what that says. You will definitely want to try this out. I have spent almost as much time with the demo as the actual game.

Very pretty, but uninspired otherwise.

First off, the great thing about this game. The control scheme is very well planned. The graphics are incredible, but since it's a PS2 game, it is almost always a given. The action is fast paced, and the animation is fluid. The sound is iffy at times, but the music is great. So, if you like a fast action game with incredible eye candy, this is the game for you.

However, if you are looking for a deep, involiving RPG with a moving plot....this isn't for you. The setup is cliche and trite. A young boy finds a robot of incredible power and goes on a spree...many mecha anime have done the exact same storyline, with far better results. As the story progresses, I find that you care less about the characters and their ideals. Maybe it's the bad voice acting, but seen that, done this. (In truth, for Gundam fans...It is reminiscent of the Crossbone Gundam manga...A colony in Jupiter's orbit is underattack, etc...)

Anyway, it's a nice rental, but it has poor replayability, a below average storyline, however, its saving grace is the action and graphics.

Z.O.E. Good, Metal Gear Solid 2 ICREDIBLE

Zone of the enders cought my attention the day I heard about it. I was also excited about the MGS2 demo which is great. But z.o.e. didn't meet my expectations of what it what it was made out to be. Personally I think that Konami just released it to show off the MGS2 demo, which I don't mind at all. Z.O.E. is basicaly your average mech game. You find and use the orbital frame Jehuti at the begining of the game and try to save your colony from some bad guys. There is About 50% is cinamatics and 50% play time. The action is good but can get borring after a while and the music is all right. Overall the game's average, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo.
