Buy It For the Demo or Don't Buy It At All

There's good news and bad news with Z.O.E. The good news is that MGS2 will be the greatest game ever. Heck, the extremely short demo packed with Z.O.E. is currently the greatest game ever! The control is a dream, the graphics are poetry in motion, and the re-playbility is unheard of. When Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty rolls around, the PS2 will be THE place to be. That's the good news.

The bad news is that Z.O.E. is none of the things MGS2 is. The story is melodramatic, the voice acting is horrendus, and Leo is the most unlikeable hero in video gaming history. The graphics are good and there is a great attention to detail, but there is no variety. Every level has Leo's bot simply destroying the same three enemy bots and the occasional boss. The control is excellent, but this game is ultimately just NO FUN. The selection of weapons is sub-standard and fighting through level after level of the same old thing is down right boring. Finally, for a game with a rating of "M", Z.O.E. should have had a more mature storyline. The main characters are pre-teens with incredibly annoying, horribly high voices. Z.O.E. is like a bad episode of Digimon or Power Rangers. Don't let the good graphics fool you, this is a horrible disappointment of a game. Buy it for the excellent MGS2 demo, or save your money or a video game that's fun, because Z.O.E. is NOT!

not bad

This game is a beautiful thing. It's pretty long and has good replay value. The grading system is a good idea and it effects the game a little. You can enter some missions that are optional but make the game better. The voice acting is great and the character development is really well done ( think terminator two meets wing commander with giant mechs). The problem with this game is that it doesn't always let you know if your doing the right thing. Without a strategy guide you'll wander around searching for anything to happen because you don't get enough information. The story like I said before is like T2 as you teach a robot to feel. It's like a movie in many ways and the realistic human emotion helps a lot. The graphics are beautiful too. If you like metal gear solid then there's an added token. This game comes with the first playable demo of MGS2. The demo is great! With replayability and all the things that make you cry out for more. You can now hide bodies, hold others hostage, and get items from men by holding a gun to thier head at point blank. It's only a glimpse at the actual game but it's worth a whole nother paragraph because it's so great. Still this game isn't perfect ,but it's worth buying!

Though Short, This Game Rocks!

First of all, I am a BIG fan of mecha (giant robots) anime, and so I waited with much impatience for this game to finally come out. When it did, it fulfilled all my expectations and more. Very seldom do you have a game that lives up to all the previews by game reviewers, but Zone of the Enders is that rare jewel that actually does. The play control is smooth and takes a very short time to get accustomed to, the sound is beyond excellent, with a soundtrack that is pulse-pounding and moving. It really gets you into the story, which is also very comprehensive, and enthralling. But the best treat is the graphics, which are every bit as stunningly beautiful as I was told. This game succeeds in every effort to keep you hooked until the very end, which,in my humble opinion, came far too soon. Yes, sadly, this game, like other PS2 games is short, making for not enough action, but the ending is very satisfying, and drops the hint that there will be a sequel. Of course, you have to play it to understand what I'm talking about. But even the ending opens up another facet of the game: the vs. player mode, where you can take on another player and attempt to wipe the floor with him/her using any of the orbital frames (robots) you encountered in the game. That coupled with difficulty settings makes this game playable even after you've beaten it. The long and short of it: This game absolutely, positively ROCKS! Aside from its shortness -and probably the mediocre English voice acting job on the part of Leo, the protagonist- there is virtually nothing that I can say negative about it. If you have been deciding to get this game, my suggestion is go right on ahead. I'd even go so far as to say that if I could beg you, I would. Trust me, this is one purchase you will never regret.

Great, but short

The game flat out rocks at first, thrusting you into the cockpit of a fully functional mecha. The opening intro will get your heart pumping, and once you gain control of the mech and begin fighting, you'll feel like you're actually IN the game. The first twenty minutes of ZOE will have you on the edge of your seat, beggining for more. However, the rest of the game is a moderate letdown, relying on repetition instead of inovation.

The game gets very boring, very quickly. You repeat the same tasks over and over ad nauseum. Instead of ramping up the difficulty of the enemies, the game simply thurst more in your way. This creates hopelessly boring battles which become more of an annoyance than anything.

The boss battles are fantastic, though. As a whole, the game is beautiful graphically, and the control over the mech is outstandingly intuitive. The only major shortcoming is the gameplay and length. You'll be able to beat the game within 3 days if you're simply an average gamer. There is little reason to play the game after this, either, except for the multiplayer mode which is adequate, if not exceptional.

Rent it, then forget it.

... then this could possibly be the best mecha game that you've ever played. The controls are simple and fast, the combat almost musically fluid, and the graphics are outstanding! Wonderful!

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from Z.O.E. at first-but I was not let down. What caught my attention was the Konami title produced by Hideo Hojima (MGS series) and of course the demo of MGS2 that was included. The reasoning for my rating is as follows: The gameplay is a absolute 5! The movment of your character is astounding-control never gets boring. The story is a bit weak maybe a 4 but closer to a 3. I think it is a bit too child oriented for a game rated for 17+.The graphics are a 5! Astounding!I was contantly in awe of the graphics-the arenas were small but in good detail and fun to blow up. The difficulty is nice, not too easy, not too hard. I give it a 4. THE GAME IS TOO SHORT! I was very let down by the end of the game, but there is an all too obvious window for a sequel. The greatest thing in this game has to be the versus mode (only aquired after beating the game!) it is fast and fun! go up against a friend or raise the bar on the cpu and challenge yourself. And by the way-the MGS2 demo makes this game 5x better. So is you have the classic titles and want another great game-pick this up.

Its not what you would expect

This game has better potential. It could of done better. I think the game developers should of spent a little more time on it.

UPSIDE- Stunning graphics! This game has very few contenders in the graphic category. Game comes with Metal Gear 2 DEMO!! Decent storyline.

DOWNSIDE-Short game lenght. I beat it in 2.5 hours. Music gets old after a while. Horrible ending. I have to say that it probably ended so bad because they are probably developing a sequel to it in the future. The ending makes you think that something else is going to happen, but it never does.

Recommendation- Yes Why? This game is a good game for Gundam Wing fans. Maybe for Mech fans. It would even recommend it to some RPG fans. Some words of caution, DON'T buy it as your first game or you'll be extremely bored. You can also buy it just for the demo, but the demo isn't worth ... bucks itself.

Awsome Game, But Absolutly No Replay Value

When I first rented ZOE I was simply amazed (and not because it came with MGS2, whilch is also a cool game). The first time I rented ZOE I got to the Dam. Then I decided to buy it, but then I beat it in less then thirty minutes from my saved game and the time I played it was approx. 2h and 30min. I then played versus mode which is Extremly easy. Plus there is only one boreing ending only one and if you want to beat it again all you do is get 2 more charecters for Vr. mode and 2 new places, and the same old ending. All in all this should be only a rental except the MGS2 Demo which comes with ZOE is the best shooter arfound now.

I was excited about this game since the first preview I saw about it four months before it released. I was taken aback by the beautiful graphics and amount of detail in Jehuty (the giant robot, for those of you who don't know). The first day that this game came out, I picked up a copy, raced home to my PS2 and sat down and began to play........the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo. After beating that several times,I forced myself to move on and play Z.O.E. It was definitley worth putting MGS2 down for. Every thing in this game was so masterfully and amazingly done. The voice acting was excellent, the computer graphics were astonishing, and the control system was fabulous and made it very easy to manuever Jehuty. This game rocks! I would recomend it to all Playstation 2 owners, even if you aren't a fan of giant warring robots. The story has so much depth to it, you could almost swear that all of the characters in the game were real. The ending really had me thirsting for more and I can scarcely wait for the anime series to come out. Hopefully there will also be a sequel besides the Game Boy Advance version. My only complaint is the shortness of the game. I suppose this was done to keep gameplay fresh and new, but I was still able to beat the game on normal and hard in a little over 4 and 1/2 hours. Trust me, I'm not the best video game player in the world. It's saying a lot if I beat it in that short amount of time. Still, this game definitely deserves a 5 star rating.
