Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

Game is not of the actual Final Fantasy genre. It is like an encountering slow lvling adventure where the encounters are engaged by the player and are not random. It is fun, but is not like many of the Final Fantasy games.

Great entry-level RPG

This is the first RPG that I had ever played. In that way, it was a great introduction, although it doesn't hold up so well now that I've played other games in the Final Fantasy series. This game is very simple, as it was meant to be an introductory-type of game. If you like retro-gaming though, this is worth a look. I thought it was worth my time, and I still play it every once and a while all these years later.

Underrated

As one of the first Final Fantasy games I ever played (of course I was only 11 when it came out) it holds a special place in my heart. Sure, this isn't a game that will take 80+ hours to complete or pages upon pages of printed walkthroughs - but that's what makes it so enjoyable. Yes, it's a game for beginners, but even 16 years later I still find it to be a great game - with decent graphics, great storyline, entertaining characters and wonderful music - one that I still enjoy playing.

Now if only they would release it for download on the WII...

It's like Final Fantasy for Kids

I played this when I was 12 and loved it; in fact, I once played this for 5 hours straight and didn't know it. But when I played it again as an adult, it was way too easy. So if you're a kid and you need to learn more about RPG's(and you actually still have a SNES), you might like to play this one. Otherwise, move onto a numbered FF game like Final Fantasy 6 or 9.

I will say the music isn't half bad though :)

Final Fantasy: Mystic Mess

This was, without a doubt the worst Final Fantasy game that I've ever played. Even Final Fantasy II had it's moments, but this game just annoyed me...
The same great music you remember is here, but everything else was left at the curb. Fuzzy-looking graphics, characters lacking any sort of personality or conviction, overly simplistic storyline, these are just afew words I would use to describe this game.
And it's not just that this game is lame in comparison to other Final Fantasy games! On the contrary, this was the first Final Fantasy game that I ever played, and if it weren't for the fact that I had already ordered Final Fantasy IV online, then this game would've stopped me from ever buying another one ever again.

The only thing that I actually liked about this game is that monsters showed visible damage once their health was decreased past it's half way point, wish they would've put that into other Final Fantasy games...
Other than that, this game should be avoided... You're better off spending your money on another Final Fantasy game. Whichever one you choose, it's sure to be better than this.

It's pretty good

I like this game. I played it many times over and I enjoyed it each time. It is fairly easy to complete not like some of the more complex games I tried to play and couldn't handle. Maybe I'm still just at a beginner level in RPGs.

Correcting the record

First of all, I will agree this isn't the greatest Final Fantasy game ever made - but for those who can understand basic English, it wasn't meant to be. It was marketed, and states right on the box and on the product description, that this is an entry-level game designed to introduce a new player to the basic concepts of RPG gaming - specifically geared toward younger players. Some of the comments on here are totally inaccurate. The statement by the person posting as "anonymous" where he/she says "This really isn't a part of the Final Fantasy series. It's just labeled as such so it would sell better here in the US" is a completely inaccurate statement. The game was designed specifically for the US and sold in the US first before it was released elsewhere. RPGs were not selling as well in the US as Square would have liked and thus designed this game hoping the bridge the gap between traditional action games and RPGs. The reviewer posting as "Shadow Mage" made a similarly incorrect statement: "This isn't even a real Final Fantasy game, in Japan it was known as "Mystic Quest Legends". It was only labeled as a Final Fantasy game so that it would make better sales in the US." The basic reason why this statement is wrong has already been explained in response to the "anonymous" post, and the game was later released in Japan as "Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest" not the title Shadow Mage gave it, so his claim about wanting it to "sell better in the US" is wrong because it was released in the US first and later released in Japan, and his claim that it didn't carry the name Final Fantasy in Japan is also wrong.

This was the second Final Fantasy game I believe I played after FF4 (originally released in the US as FF2). I had played FF4 a number of times and FF6 (3 originally in the US) was not due out for some time, and I noticed FF Mystic Quest on the shelf one day and gave it a try, knowing, because I read the box, that it was a simplistic-style RPG designed for someone new to the concept of RPG games. It was nothing extraordinary, but it was well worth playing and fairly enjoyable and something new at the time. The graphics were fairly standard for the time and the musical score I thought and still think was very well done.

So if you are thinking of playing this and haven't yet, ignore the incorrect statements made by others, but don't expect this to be the best RPG you've ever played if you pick it up and switch on your SNES - it wasn't meant to be that way, otherwise it would have a number rather than "Mystic Quest" alongside Final Fantasy.

Haters, all

I had played Final Fantasy, both the original and Final Fantasy IV, (which I knew as Final Fantasy II at the time) before seeing this in a rental place and playing it. Compared to those two I did find it utterly simplistic, but I don't think it was made for the experienced player like me. This is more of a primer for very young kids who want to get into the game. I thought the story was very cute and the art colorful. It was all quite whimsical. And deny that it has anything to do with FF, but there was a chocobo, a spell called Holy, and a few familiar monsters from the series in familiar fashion. I celebrate it for what it is; a seamless introduction to RPG gaming. Random encounters, working with a menu, fomenting strategy regarding being able to conserve resources long enough to survive between rest areas and save points. You give a twitch-gamer this title, and if he hasn't strangled himself after fifteen minutes he has a chance to do well at RPG games.
So, we know you're gifted with m4d l33t skillzorz but give the game a break, there are some people out there who could appreciate this title.

One of Our 1st Fantasy's - Mystic Quest

This is one of the first Final Fantasy titles that I had ever owned & I bought it when it first hit the shelves... now that is a long time ago & Final Fantasy has definately evolved into something much much more, but that doesn't make this game fall short of a masterpiece.... this is game is an absolute classic, when it first came out it was the leading rpg game of it's time & the fact that these other people can't appreciate a game for what it was when it was is just sad, expand your horizons & go back to your roots.... Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is one of the best rpg games of it's time & is definately worth adding to any true rpg'ers collection.

Okay, I think ridiculous that people are bashing this game. And no, I'm over 13, I just don't feel like logging in right now.

This is an excellent little game. The only problem is how simple that it is, like others pointed out.

I can't believe people are saying they hate this game because you can jump. Since when has jumping been such a bad thing? All it means is that you can reach a few high platforms, that's all.

I'd say if you're new to FRPGs, or if you're just looking for a simple but sweet game, this is for you.
