Pure perfection...

This game has always been a highlight for RPGs since it was released. Although it isn't classic like the Super Nintendo RPGs, it really takes it to a new level. The story really stands out in this game, indeed much more than many other RPGs. It truly has a much more emotional and melodramatic storyline ,not that suprising for a Squaresoft RPG, but even so...it really stands out. The way the characters interact and vastly change throughout the game also makes it interesting. This isn't just your average game. The battle system, while very different, is indeed good. The juntion system is a good change, although easy to master and further make the game a bit easier. I also like the GF system. The idea of using GFs to earn spells and abilities is just great. This game is critisized occasionally, but don't let that keep you from trying it. Again the story in this game is just so emotional and sometimes very sad. If you care about storyline I'm sure you'll really find something here, but if you like RPGs with little kiddies running around laughing, this game isn't for you, this is really more aimed toward the mature gamers, or people who just like emotional and sometimes sad stories, and I sure do. If the story doesn't do it for you I'm sure there's other aspects of this game that will satisfy you, although you shouldn't bother with this game if you are an idiot (you know who you are!). If you are into games like 'Final Fantasy 7" "Shadow Hearts" "Final Fantasy 6" or even "Final Fantasy Tactics" and "Castlevania Symphony of The Night" , I'm sure you will highly enjoy this. But if you are into stuff like "Halo" "Kingdome Hearts" or "Half Life" and even "Mario:Sunshine" you will NOT like this...This is a milestone in RPGs for it's time....enough said.

Probably one of the best games I've ever played. Curious, I bought the game new for 29.99. How Amazon can justify charging 53 dollars for it boggles the mind. Very savvy of them though, because if someone really wants the game, they will pay it. Good Move.

Oh, the game? Awesome story line. As Squall, you must fight for a mercenary group called Seed. You were trained as a Seed in a Garden, which has become threatened by the powerful Galbadian Army. Through your missions connected to a rebel group called the Timber Owls and beyond, you must solve puzzles in order to save the world from being overrun by the Galbadians, led by evil sorceress Edea and Seifer, a long time rival of Squall. Through the game, you must build experience through battle and you must also capture GF's (Guardian Forces) when melee attacks aren't potent enough. Through defeating enemies, you become stronger and so do your GF's. Through the junction ability, you can junction magic to you stats, like Hit points and defense. I don't want to ruin the story, but I've beaten the game before, and it was worth the time I spent to play it.

Disappointing

Alright, Im a true RPG fan. RPGs and Hockey games are basically the only games that I can play. So what game got me started? FF7. That is and always will be my most favorite game of all time, I could play that over and over learning something new each time. I thought that the plot was great, the characters were great, and even their personalities were great. Alright, now if you're like me, and you love FF7 then I assure you that you will be quite diappointed by FF8. I'll admit the graphics are better but the plot is pathetic. See, what I really didnt like was the fact that it took me hours to get the whole system for FF7 down, which I didnt really mind but they had to go off and change everything in FF8. Not to mention the fact that the draw system also is a hindurance. I would sit there for hours trying to draw a spell so my guys would be at least somewhat good. Alright, I do have a life here. Now, the ending is truly confusing. You figure it out. I just thought it wasnt that great. The grapics is all thats good. Personally I think Squall is a bit... Well, you tell me... One thing though... The beginning movie ROCKS. I could watch that forever. I'll give them that... Good start bad finish. It may be worth $40 but if you have PlayStation, rent it and hope you can beat it within that time. If you like it when you rent it then purchase it but...

I have never regreted buying a Final Fantasy

I have been a Final Fantasy Fan ever since the very first game (made for the Nintendo). I have not completed this game yet, but so far, I am impressed. One of the problems I had with FF7 PC was that the movies were too slow. Thankfully they corrected this problem for this game. The movies are so well done. You must get this game. I have read other reviews. I just have to say that the majority of people will not regret it. Buy it!

A Big Disapointment

Squall is a member of an elite military group called Seed. Withhis companions he battles against a rival Seed group being lead by anevil Sorceress. In my opinion, Final Fantasy 7 was one the best games to ever reach our (or your) shores. The game play was excelent, the characters were amazing and the story line was so beautifull you could play for hours on end and not notice a minute go by. Why then did Square Soft take all that was good about the affore-mentioned classic and sacriffice it in the name of stunning graphics? The story, although excellent in itself, drags like a big rig being towed by a push bike. The characters, with the exceptions on Seifer and Rinoa, are cold and dull, and the new "junction system", although a good idea and of great use at times, can get very frustrating when you're changing your characters around. The games one advantage over its predesessors is the stunning quality of the graphics. But, even though the video sequences cannot be matched by any other game either in existence or in production, the in-game graphics lack any atmosphere at all. All in all, this is just another RPG.

FF 8 is the best out of all the FF games. Best story, very good graphics (not as good as 10 though), best mini games and the fighting..outstanding and very good game to start with if you are just getting into FF, however, i would start with FF7. Well worth your time and money for this game.

I am the FAN of the Final Fantasy series and i happened to get this game on PC from my friend. I haven't finished it yet, because my Disc 2 is messed up somehow, *and am currently trying to buy one again, but it's out of stock! HELP!* but from what i have played, the graphic is beautiful, and the characters are very funny, and also serious, and their personalities are greatly planned. All of the guardian forces or GFs are nicely graphiced, and their attacks are wonderfully done. The costumes are nice too. I wanted to give it five stars, but i changed it to four because of the story line. The story line is great, except that it is not fully complete. Somewhere, there are few holes in the story line and that really bugged me. But over all, this game is just beautiful, and the graphics are wonderfully done. If you like RPG, then i'm sure you will like this game, but if you like more challenging games, then i do not recommend this. It's rather easy than you think.....

Tedious Gameplay

If you like to spend hours equipping magic, Guardian Forces, and with that Junctioning System... this is your game.

The dependency on Guardian Forces is annoying. I'll admit they have stunning graphics but it doesn't make up for the fact that you always have to use them and there is no option to skip the long animation sequences; they are well done, as I said, but it becomes repetitive after watching Shiva coat everything in ice for the 2,348th time!

Another down-side is the high-res characters on the low-res, PSX backgrounds. It is superb watching Squall preform a limit break on a truly magnificent looking foe... but wait! There's a pixel the size of Texas blocking his way! Wait... that's supposed to be a rock.

The FMV's are fluid and life-like with special attention to detail such as the reflections on the dance floor. Animé style hair and faces give it that Final Fantasy touch that we know and love.

The Storyline, though linear, is deep and involving as all Final Fantasies are.

All in all, it is a game just barely fit to hold the Final Fantasy title. But, of course, that's only my opinion.

Extremely Bad Plot+Too much dialogue=1 Bad Game

When I originally saw the demo for this game I figured it would be the best in the series. Boy was I wrong. I have been playing Final Fantasy for a while and always thought that they kept getting better and better with time. That is until I played this latest version. This game had an extremely dull plot (unless you are 10 years old) that was translated horribly into english. The characters are just too dramatic for my taste. The women in this particular game are also just too "feminine" all the time. They are supposed to be soldiers not whimsy schoolgirls. Another Bad point is that the dialogue scenes are just absolutely too long and too common. My first six hours of gameplay was about 1 hour of battles and 5 hours of nonplayable character interaction that was tottaly unneccesary and meaningless. That is unless squaresoft wants the player to become frustrated and just throw the discs out of the window. All in all the graphics were good and the FMV's were well done but in no way make up for the lack of plot and the overdone dialogue and dramatics. If you can help it skip this installment of FF. Hopefully the next will be better.
