One of the best RPGs ever!

I think that Final Fantasy VIII is one of the best RPGs ever! It has really good graphics and an excellant storyline. You really need to have a gamepad to really get good control. Also, if you have a recent graphics accelerator, it runs really smoothly. Make sure that you have a card that supports 8 bit palletted textures, or else all the menus are messed up. Over all, this is one of my favorite games! A must buy!

Great game but has bugs

Overall I think this game is an improvement over FF7. The characters are more realistic and the story is better. Just so you know though the software version has bugs such as starting with 81 million in money, a ridiculous amount of items, and reaching a point where the program keeps crashing. Squaresoft/Electronic Arts is aware of the problem but they told me that it may be two or three weeks before the problem is resolved. I think the game is well worth waiting for but thought you might want to be aware of this problem before you purchase FF8.

Playstation version DEFINITELY IS NOT better than pc version

Using the pc version with a fast computer instead of the OLD playstation makes the game more enjoyable and better overall. Compared to FFVII, FFVIII has a large selection and good layout for battle commands/functions and I'd have to say that this game is quite possibly the best rpg that I've played.

I've been a fan of the FF series from the first FF on the gool ol' 8bit nintendo, up to the block-buster, FF 7. if you have ever played, and liked a FF game buy this one now, it's just great, I don't have much more to say......just buy it =)

I finished the game for the first time three days ago, and I am starting the second time. This game is the best game I have ever played. You just want to win more GFs to enjoy the Graphics. No other game competes with the graphics of this game. It's true that this game is not very challenging, but it's the most fun to play. It took me about 50 hours to finish it the first time, but I missed some weapons. The secon time will take me at least 10 more hours.

Excellent Game!!!!!!!

If you want an excellent and realistic RPG game, this is the game!!!!! My ratings 1-10 (10- rules 1-stinks) Graphics 10 Difficulty 9.5 Ease of installation 10 Characters and attacks 10 Story 9.5 Hours of gameplay 10 Play Control 10 Sound 10 This game is well worth the money!!!!!!!! I recommend the black Logitech Wingman gamepad with the transparent blue buttons. The many buttons come in handy! They sell it here in electronics or something.

This is a truly remarkable game. Don't mind the controlls you'll gett used to them. If you dont you can just customize them later. In this game you cannot use most of the controlls you could normally use. The only keys you can use are the letters. Yeah, that sucks.

The game has wonderful battles though. Also, like its ancestor FF7 (although a little bit better than FF7) this game features wonderful movie graphics. The regular graphics are ok... But they lack in quality. It's all right. If you have a good computer, like a Pentium 4, the graphics should not be a problem.

It has an intense storyline that makes me forget time and play for hours. You WILL love this game. Please take my word for it. BUY THIS GAME!!!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!!!

Another FF smash...

This is another good FF game, but it didn't appeal to me as much as FF7 did. The game has excellent graphics and movies and support for all video cards, but I liked the gameplay in FF7 better. What I got most hooked on in the game was the mini-card game. Its very fun and you can get items for obtaining certain cards.

Like in FF7, FF8 has an excellent storyline in which Squaresoft does best anyways. The Junction Battle System didn't appeal to me as much though. There are Guardian Forces you must collect in the game and you must junction to one to get even the most basic commands. Furthermore, you must find rare items and magazines to get upgrades on your weapons.

It is also the wierdest FF game i've played. Usually in RPGs you get a whole bunch of experience for defeating a boss. In this game, you get no exp for bosses or certain enemies. Also, money is salary based in this game. You won't get a single penny from the wandering monsters.

All in all, another smash hit FF RPG!!!

close but no chedda

The game is pretty good but would neva reach the superior ff7. FF7 is by far the best final fantasy, then comes nine, then comes 8, the materia is by far the easiest way to equip the items. But i gatta hand it to ff8 best graphics so far. The story is ok not as good as ff7 which has the best story ever. Ff7 has the best story and character development. Before you get ff8 get ff7 then get ff9 then get ff8, and be sure to check out ff10 which is coming out soon it looks dope.

Why does everyone say it's bad?

I play FFVIII on a laptop with 1024*768 pixels, though I could play on my desktop system I choose not too.

I got the game in 2000 when it was recommended, played it for awhile and decided I didn't like it, I got it out a week ago and over the easter weekend progressed to disc three. So the cimimatics could have been better, they would have if I'd play it on the other computer, I don't care.

The characters are marvelously developed and I love the way the story goes. And I think I prefer the way the juntioning is in the FFVIII to the other games, it's easier for me.

I admit I don't like the random battles, but I do like getting my levels up quickly...
