The new beginning...

So many people did not play the original GTA games, that that is alright. This was, when it came out, the most advanced and risky engine for a game yet conceived. This game changed the way we play video games.
Really, the first GTA (plus it's expansion) and GTA II were so much fun to play that we thought at the time that no one could ever top this. Since then, Rockstar has proven us wrong and gone above and beyond to create GTA games that almost consistently topped the one before (I do not count the PSP ones, they were weak and were only created to sell PSP's).
So if you have played any of the GTA games and want to try more, this one is a classis, a legend if you will, and will be forever.
The replay value of all of the GTA games is astonishing.

One of the best sandbox games ever made

As far as sandbox games go this is one of my favorites ever. You get to do what ever you want short of going into every single building. This game is a blast for any mayhem seeker and is full of weapons and vehicals that will keep you happy for many long long hours of fun.

Game does not function

The man walks to the left constantly and it cannot be STOPPED.

It takes just about a magician to drive the vehicle, it won't turn wheels to the right with the letter "D"

The CD is worn out or incompatible with Windows XP. I hate to give anyone a bad review but this game is terrible because the games CD seems to be either physically flattened or scratched, I did not take magnifying glass nor even look for scatches.

I tried my standard cleaning my turning it in a circle in a very soft cloth on playing side in attempt to fix the problem but it remains so I am not happy with the game at all, it is NOT PLAYABLE.

It is so worn out or incompatible, to me(?), it does not matter what the reason is, I bought a GAME THAT DOES NOT PLAY, I must rate that zero happiness, you would do same no? I mean I am not trying to hurt someoone here, I just want a game that works.

Opened up a new line of genre, very unique gameplay and expansive environment. But riddled with glitches and imperfections. Enough so, to make this very frustrating. Almost seems impossible at times. Fun for a few hours, but afterwards i wouldnt ever play it again. Not worth the money.

this game is hard!

Having played and beaten GTA Vice City and San Andreas with ease i bought this game and it is alot harder. With enemy gangsters shooting at you every other block in the city get used to dying despite cheat codes if you decide to use them

for the players who are used to the in game map with your player location on it this game does not offer one which makes getting lost a lot easier

GTA3 is the best one out of the series because it was the first to utilize the third person view. Ive played GTA2 briefly and although they got the idea right the gameplay just felt a bit lacking because of the top down view. Even the later titles like Vice City and San Andreas didnt make as deep as an impression on me like GTA3 did. Both were equally as fun but Vice City's map was too small and basically is just one long drag strip. San Andreas had too much open spaces, I didnt like the layout of the map and it just took too long to get from one side to the other. GTA3 though also has a few features missing. You cannot buy property like you can in Vice City and San Andreas which gives you multiple save points. Also you do not get the better aiming scheme, swim, personalize your character with clothes or planes you get with San Andreas. There are just so many things to do in San Andreas which will surely keep you busy and adds alot of value to the gameplay. But in the end GTA3 is still my all time favorite and was a landmark in gaming history for me. Its actually one of the titles that got me into PC gaming. The open-ended gameplay, graphics and overall size of the city was very impressive when the game was released. Without a doubt my all time favorite single player game.

My brother and i used to play this game when it first came out for PC. I wanted the game because it brings back good memories, and its so easy to mod. you can personalise everything, including what your charachter looks like. you can put your favorite cars into the game, and even some of your favorite buildings. Love the game. I reccomend it.

not as fun as GTA: Vice City

GTA III is fun but not as good as Vice City. I'm about 17 missions in and so far I'm not all that impressed. As far as I can tell there's no chainsaw or flamethrower, even with cheat codes. And worst of all, there's no Molotov cocktails. The graphics are not as good as Vice City. GTA III's graphics are fuzzier. So far, GTA III's missions are just conventional mob/criminal in nature (whacking people, stealing, etc.). I got a kick out of the funny missions in Vice City such as taking long range photos of the politician in a impeachable activity with an adult film star "actor". Some of the missions in GTA III are annoying such as when you must steal 3 cars for a Japanese mobster and then must deliver them in perfect condition. In GTA III I don't think you get to own cool businesses like strip clubs, porno movie studios or ice cream trucks from which you sell narcotics. You can't go into as many buildings in GTA III as you can in GTA:Vice City. In GTA III you can't point a gun at a store clerk to rob the store.

However, I do like GTA III's larger city map. The M-16-like assault rifle is too powerful. But, I do like how the game designers made the AK-47. It's somewhat like a real Kalashnikov.

I don't know if GTA III came out after GTA: Vice City. GTA: Vice City is alot better and in addition to the things above, the Vice City's gameplay is smoother.
