Easily one of the best games on the PC

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

A friend of mine recently installed this game on his P4 PC with a 64MB Gforce video card with 256 MB of RAM that he built himself, and since I have played the PS2 version, I'll just stick to the game, so here we go.

The graphics are MUCH BETTER (more like Vice City graphic's especially if you are running a bad-a** video card) than the PS2 version. Like the PS2 version; you basically go around doing missions for mob bosses; there are also side-mission's too (if you steal a taxi, an ambulance, or a cop car) that you can do if you get tired of doing the missions (sometimes they do get boring and HARD; there is this one mission where you have to street race in order to get respect on the street's...it took me two day's to FINALLY beat that mission).

The gameplay is great, the controller's take sometime getting used too especially if you are using the keyboard (which I had to do because the controller was just too much), but either than that, the gameplay rocks!

Missions: The first missions are a piece of cake (their no different from the PS2 game) but as you progress farther into the game, they get harder; even sometimes it takes hours just to beat one SINGLE mission because of the difficulity of the mission, also sometimes they can get a little boring and repeative.

The content: Again, like all of the GTA games, this is NOT FOR KIDS, please it bugs me when I see mom's and dad's get their kid's M rated games for their four or five year old son because I have been playing games since the NES day's, so now as an adult I like my games to have adult situations, so please if you are an adult, please don't get your son or daughter this game, it's not FOR KIDS!

Thanks for reading my review, I hope I have been of help.

What can I say that you haven't heard from everyone before. Look at my rating of 5 stars - I love this game. I'm playing through it a second time right now, and I'm having at least as much fun as I did the first time.

The game is complete and immersive. It's wonderful to behold this little seemingly-functional city that exists only as your playground. It will change the way you look at the world around you, that much is for certain.

As a die-hard PC enthusiast, though, I want to warn those PC players who are not used to console ports. Remember that GTA III originally came out on the PS/2. Unfortunately, the evidence of that port lingers on. I only mention these things because this is such a good game. Keep in mind these are small complaints, at least for me, but if you expect your games to be a technical masterpiece, some things that may bug you include:
1) The 'generators' are too close to your character at high resolution. Although at TV resolution, you can't see very far down the road, at 1024x768 or higher, you CAN, and you can with clarity. Cars 'appear' too close to the character, even with drawing distance set to maximum, and they also disappear too soon.
2) Level loading delay. The actual level load is not long, but there is a noticible pause every time the game loads a new texture. Luckily, this is only done once per texture if you have a decent graphics card, but it still means that the first time you enter any new area on a level, you'll have some jerkiness until everything is loaded.

Other than that, the game is wonderful to play and watch. It's been fun for months!

Instant Classic

Graphix - Better than PS2 on many settings.

Controls - Decent though a bit cumbersome. There are quite a few ways to do the same thing in different locations on the keyboard. I still think the PS2 controller is more ergonomic.

Gameplay - Nearly identical on all counts. You can steal cars, assult anyone, Run, Combat, or impersonate law enforcement. Complete missions, wander to your hearts content.

Most usable skill is using the uzi while driving which took me quite a while to get used to using the keyboard.

Getting started free armor is by the docks in portland harbor. There usually is a shotgun in the police car by the hospital.

Easiest car to drive initially is the mafia sentinal.

Good Luck have Fun.

Excellent game

It seems that people writing negative reviews about this game fall into 1 of 2 categories:

1) Those who have never played a console game port and
2) The "holier than thou" types, who .... in their pants at the thought of video game violence

To those in the first category, the solution to your whining is simple: don't buy GTA3 expecting a PC game. Yes, the graphics are way nicer compared to the PS2 version, but the game is still a console game deep down inside - hence the absence of saving wherever and whenever you want.
That said, I'm glad GTA3 PC is true to its console predecessor, as the game would have been way too easy if players were allowed to save anytime. If you don't like console games, don't kid yourself - GTA3 is not for you.

The second category should just refrain from buying games in general, and instead stick to Martha Stewart specials and Barbie video games. You might also be interested to know that Rockstar was aware of people like you before the game was even released (three words: Pogo the Monkey).

This said, there is something inherently excellent about being able to play GTA3 without having to turn on your Playstation 2. Graphics in this version are nothing short of incredible - even though the requirements are a little high, with a good video card (GeForce4) and a Pentium 3, you can get good results. Sound has also been improved, and even though I will probably never use this option, you can add your own MP3's to create a radio station all your own.

For those unfamiliar with the game, check out the reviews for the PS2 version - the game is a very faithful port (even some of the glitches, hehe). The story is very well written, and I think the tagline one of the magazines used suits this game very well ("A mafioso masterpiece"). Even after having played GTA: Vice City I find GTA3 no less interesting and captivating - it's a different game every time. The city is teeming with life, and the radio stations alone are worthy of an award.

I will conclude this by saying that if there ever was a reason to buy a Playstation 2, GTA3 is it.

A Classic

I got this game shortly and let me say how wonderful this game is. There are no levels, just one big, gigantic city. Filled with a variety of cars and trucks. The game is more laid back letting you do what you want to do. If you want to run from the cops and commit random acts of mayham, you can. If you want to play a police officer, a fireman, an ambulance driver, or a cabbie you can. If you want to do mission for the Mafia, and other notorious people of organized crime, you can. This plus the fact that you can add MP3's from your own collection to the radio stations, add to the previous nine. The fact that you can costumize your character in skin color, eye color, hair color, and clothing plus the better graphics makes this a better pick than the playstation 2 version. While your in the city the graphics are simply amazing, and the wide choice of cars in the correct distracts (minivans in the suburbs, sports cars in the buisness area, and trucks in the industrilized areas) make this game the more realistic. Also running from the cops is so fun it could be a game of its own. Starting off with one, stubborn cop, leading to a whole lot making road blocks, than the helicopters, the SWAT, and finally the FBI. The cons are the fact that the cut scenes have lousy graphics, especially the hands. There is no multipalyer which should have been added since this is a PC game. Though, this overlooked with GTA3's high replay value. Overall great game, actually one of the best.

Don't be fooled about what others say about this game.
I talk with proof!
This game is SUPERB!
First of all, let me assure you that i usually don't speak like that.....in fact i don't play much computer games. Not because i can't is just that i figured what is so great about some graphics moving on a screen that got alot of people involved in it until they could not care less about nething else. The only game i have ever played was Packman which i got installed on my workstation at work LONGGGG time ago.
But that all changed, when I decided to take the plunge into the GTA3 World, that seemed to have dominated the life's of some of my close office mates. I was curious.....what was the BIG deal about??Why this game???? I just had to know!
And before you can say "What the....." I am already half way through the game.......ADDICTED.
Yes..addiction is what keeps me coming back to this game....
the is sooo much things to do, so little time. The possibilities are limitless, that's what i can summarize about this game for you. You can drive a cab, save lives, and even be the good guy and hunt down criminals........add to that the myriad of vehicles that you can take over......PHEEEEWWWWWWW!
And if I like it i can take the challenge and do a mission OR make that MISSIONS.......and earn more cash......But don't take my word for it.....though this game gave me a totally new perspective of computer gaming. If it wasn't for my office mates, i just would not have even known that such a game as GTA3 exists!

Conclusion: Get this game and be prepared for tones of fun.........endless FUN if i may add.
Oh by the way, make sure you have a good machine to run this game.....good as in NOT great.....my recommendation a Pentium 1Ghz and above with about 256 RAM make that DDR and a graphics card somewhere in the GF3-GF4 range....
Also this game is NOT suitable for children, so parents you might want to play this when they are not around.......i know it's tough..but that's how i played this game when my 5 year-old is not around.
Happy Gaming!
Long Live GTA3!!!!!!

If you love action games you will love Grand Theft Auto 3.It is a full on action game. You are an ex con looking for money. You have connections and it leads you to the biggest gangsters in Liberty City. Sounds cool huh I know. You can pick the car you want which you have a variety of choices to. You can steal very cool cars. Like I said
If you like action games you will love Grand Theft Auto 3.

Some people say that this is the best crime game since the original Driver. I really recommend this game to people how love action games. Grand Theft Auto games used to have very bad graphics, but after they made Play Station 2 they had a lot better graphics.

Even thought it came out 3 years ago its still on the shelf. Now that its over a year old it costs only $20.00, and for that price it's a good offer. I still love to play that game ALOT. Its still one of my favorite games ever!

The game is pretty hard but there is such a thing called as cheat codes! It would be a little hard without them, but its still a really fun game. Without the cheats there is a place called Ammunition. You can buy guns there. So if you ever have a chance to rent or buy this real game rent it or buy it you will be entertained!

The funniest driving/shooting/crime-spree game ever!

I bought this game some time ago and finally got around to playing it this month. I must admit it was much better than I thought it would be. Actually, it's one of the best games I've played in awhile. Why?

Gameplay: A heap of missions and many ways to complete them. And they are not just the kind of fed-ex "deliver this," "get that," "kill him" jobs that you find in many games. Many of the missions are timed, require a strategy and some thought, and will have to be repeated in order to succeed (especially since you can't save in the middle of a mission). This is primarily a driving game, but much of the action also takes place on foot and even by sea. There are a wide variety of weapons that you can use and the cars handle like they should (i.e., sports cars are fast and handle well; SUVs turn over easily; semis [yes, semis] are slow but powerful, etc.). Many of the missions are just too funny and given that you can complete them in various ways, you'll find out just how imaginative you can be when your enemies (and you will make many) come after you.

Graphics and sound: The game looks good, though the graphics are not state-of-the-art. There are skin textures and clothing that can be downloaded from the internet to customize your character and the car radio can play mpg files (though I like much of the music that comes with the game). The cars look good overall and sound effects, from shotgun blasts to V8 engines, are done well.

Replay value: Some. There are several dozen missions and sub-missions that should keep you playing for a while. The game might be as fun a second time around, since it allows multiple ways to complete some missions. I could see playing it a second time, but probably not more.

Last word: A well-done, stable game, with intense gameplay, good graphics and sound, some hilarious situations and dialogue, and a good amount of openendedness. (Like many others, I would not recommend this game for anyone less than 18, for it includes a lot of profanity and strong sexual undertones, in addition to graphic, even gratuitous, violence. Neither is it for those who cannot easily distinguish reality from fantasy.)

Rating: 4.5 stars

The Best Game Ever

I haven't been a gamer for that long and i started my gaming when N64 came out and have been in love with video games ever since. I have played this game and it is the best game that i have ever played in most of my life. This game has everything that anyone could ever want in a game and more. Hey however doesn't like this game is not that much of a gamer or mayber he just didn't understand the concept behind the whole game. Sure it may have a M (mature) rating but who doesn't like a little taste of gang violence.
