One of my favorite multiplayer games EVER!!!

It is really a shame that more people did not hear about Time Splitters. The multiplayer mode is amazing. Tons of weapons are at your dsposal. Furthermore, a tremendous variety of bots are there as well. You can enjoy a multiplayer match without any friends. The whole game runs at 60 frames per seconds(which is VERY fast, for those of you who aren't familiar with such terms). It never slows down even with 4 players and 10 bots in the arena at the same time. There is a HUGE cast of characters (over 55 I think). All of them have their own comical quirks and are enjoyable to watch. There are many modes including deathmatches, bag(flag) tag, capture the bag(flag), last man standing, a few others. There is a terrific map builder. It allows you to build structures of up to 8 structures. You can control everything from lighting, to weapon locations, to team locations, and MUCH more. The single player mode is geared toward unlocking things in the multiplayer mode. Never was there a game with so many things to unlock. The replay value is amazing. The single player mode is very challenging but unfortunatly not as good as some other FPSs on the market. This is simply because of the lack of time that Free Radical and Eidos had to create the game. The sequel is supposed to have a better single player mode. The addition of a cooperation mode for the single player mode is available as well in Time Splitters. It will allow you to play the game alongside a friend. There is also an innovative and highly addictive challenge mode which contains creative challenges in order to unlock more things. All in all, this is a great game. I bought it back in June and so far, it has always been a hit at parties. WELL worth the money.

Almost Perfect

The multi-player is the best ever. There is nothing more fun than designing your own maps of levels and playing on them with a group of friends. There is an excelent selection of weapons similar to those in Goldeneye and Pefect Dark for the N64. The graphics are amazing and run very smoothly. If you liked Bond or Perfect Dark this game is a must buy. The single player is great too. As you go through time (beginning in 1935) the weapons become more advance. The preset controls are a little bit tricky but they can easily be changed to suit your needs. If you need a good mutli-player shooting game get this, not Unreal Tournament. This is one of the best games for the PS2 and is an instant classic. 10.0!!! A++

look no further! Timesplitters is the ultimate multiplayer first-person-shooter that has ever been created for a console. It runs incredibly fast, with four players!! It's even faster with only one! It's almost too fast... but Perfect Dark was too slow, so I'll take fast over slow anyday.

Truth is, after playing Timesplitters, you can't go back to Perfect Dark or Goldeneye, because Timesplitters is so fast.

Besides the speed, this game is fantastic. It features:

An indepth, but easy to use, MapMaker!

Lots of guns that DON'T need to be unlocked!

Lots of levels, over twenty, and that's not including the one's you'll make in the MapMaker!

No blood, so the kiddies M I G H T be allowed to play it.

Comedic atmosphere unique to it's genre!

Over 60 characters to play with, tons of cheats to unlock, and a very fun challenge mode!

Fully customizable controls. If you don't like one of the buttons, CHANGE IT to whatever you want!!

Buy it, now! It's the only game I still play from the PS2 launch. And I have SSX and Tekken Tag, neither of them has been in my PS2 as much as Timesplitters. And if you're simply bored with nothing to do, play around with the MapMaker, it's loads of fun!

Fast, fun, and furious- Timesplitters delivers the goods

Timesplitters, the first FPS on the Playstation 2 console is a perfectly well balanced shooter.

The four player mode is as deadly is that of Goldeneye 007, and the single player mode offers tons of hidden things to unlock. Two small complaints though, one: the computer controlled bots in Aracade are complete idiots, and Two: the Story mode is pitiful, despite all the goodies to unlock. If there's a sequel, these points need to be improved on, but as it stands, Timesplitters is one of the most fun and addictive video games for the PS2.

First Person Fun...

I've had this game since January 6th and have been addicted ever since. Just to honestly show how addicted, I bought Resident Evil 3, Road Rash Jailbreak, and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, on the same day as Timesplitters, and I swear I haven't played any of the other 3 yet (even Lunar 2). Here's a quick pros and cons list...

Pros: 1) The control - I honestly don't know what some people (one person in particular) are complaining about. You use the two analogs to move around - move forwards/backwards + look up and down as the verticals, and turn left/right + strafe left/right for the horizontals, and you can configure the controls for whichever analog stick you prefer. And you shoot with the top R1 + R2 buttons, which seems to be a trend lately, so I guess we should get used to it. L1 is the crouch button, and L2 brings up the targeting icon. The control is absolutely perfect for this game... excellent mobility.

2) 4 Player Split screen - well, it's better than 2 player SS. Anyway, I've always preferred actually having live friends to play with and talk trash to while playing, rather than playing someone I don't even know. My roommate and I will sit there for who knows how long playing a Bagtag session. I mean really... I can sacrifice half a screen to play alongside my buddies. You can also play through the story mode in 2P co-op... finally!! Arcade mode lets you choose from 20+ maps, any 5 weapons, up to 12 bots, 6 different game types, and numerous game options. Totally customizable!

3) Deep gameplay - This one's gonna take you forever to get through. There are 9 story mode maps, each with an easy, medium and hard setting that not only increases difficulty, but more of the map to get through. Beating these levels open up more playable characters + bot characters (I believe about 57 in all), cheats, and 27 challenge levels that are pretty tough and that, in turn, open more items... it goes on forever. Oh yeah, there are also timed bonus that open more items, too.

4) Graphics - This one everyone pretty much knows... 60 fps... PS2 is fully capable of great graphics... blah blah blah (especially on an S-Video hookup, it looks super great)

5) Sounds - No real complaints here, though with the amazing body count capable in this game, more screams and voices would have been cool.

Cons: 1) Level editor - OK, so you're pretty limited here. There are only about 21 preset rooms and corridors to choose from. If Timesplitters 2 comes out, they should have this fixed. One cool thing here is that you can create the level and switch between 5 level "atmospheres"... the level will be the same, but it will look either Gothic, Industrial, Spaceway, Alien, or Virtual (kind of a psuedo-Matrix/Tron movie thing going there), and one of the room sis a giant centerpiece that will change with the atmosphere.

2) Similar characters - They look different, but they're not really different from each other. They should have different abilities, weapons, strengths, and character specific voices and comments.

But there's one more important Pro: IT'S FUN. That's why we buy the games, cause they're fun. And that would be my suggestion... buy this, cause rental time just isn't enough for this one.

More than meets the eye.

I'm going to admit up front that this game SERIOUSLY underwhelmed me at first. And the reason for that is because I didn't get what this game was designed to be. This is game is all about deathmatch and arena games. Period. Four stars for the multiplayer version alone? Yep.

When you start the game, you no doubt like me are going to go into the story mode. And no doubt you will think to yourself how shallow and uninteresting that story mode is. When you start a level, there is no introduction, no story (so why's it called story mode?) and no sense of why you're there. You have to go to the pause screen to discover that you're searching for an item to find, grab and retrieve to your starting point. Then you go to the next level... and do the EXACT SAME THING! I'm quite a ways into the game and i've had the same objective for every single level. VERY WEAK.

BUT!

Then I discovered that while most 1st person shooters have death match to accompany the game, this one had a game to accompany a deathmatch. The story mode unlocks extra levels, characters and the like for the "arcade" mode every time you complete a level. And quite simply the arcade mode is where it's at.

All the great weapons from Perfect Dark and Goldeneye are included and there are TONS of characters to choose from. Flag tag is there, team play is there. It's PD for PS2 and it's awesome!

And the clincher for this game is the most addicting part of all. Level editor. You design everything from the basement to the eighth floor in this amazing and easy-to-use create your own! You can go so far as to choose the color of the lights and how they shine.

This is a must buy for arcade alone. Just don't be decieved by story mode. This book has more to it than its cover!

More fun than a barrel of monkeys...gun toting monkeys even!

Time Splitters is a first person shooter from some of the same people who worked on Goldeneye, and boy does it show! As soon as you get used to the initially awkward control scheme, you'll feel the same rush you get from playing the bond inspired FPS that defined console 3-D shooters, and although there isn't much here in the way of a single player story driven game, you can still spend a lot of time with this title. Basically there is no driving story to explain why you're shooting anything that moves, but there are some fairly well designed levels, and there's even a co-operative play option for these play modes. The meat of this game, though, is in the death-match game, which is where it should be. Good weapon design, intelligent and deadly bots, and the ability to build your own levels are all high-points in the game, and will make sure that you and three of your best friends will spend hours in front of the telly. My only complaints are that there's only so much you can do with the level designer due to a limited selection of tiles, and the types of death match could be expanded upon....but I'm hoping for this to be fixed and more to be added in a sequel. If there is one game for the PS2 that is crying out for online support, it's this one....I salivate at the thought of playing this over the net, and being able to share custom built levels. ***droooool***

I don't know if I came into this game with low expectations or what, but after reading some of the harsh reviews I'm a little beside myself because next to SSX this is my favorite game on the PS2. This is a title that should have been at the top of everyone's launch day list, yet I bought it on a whim at Christmas and I've gotta say that my friends and I have had nothing but a blast fragging the heck out of each other for the past three months. This game isn't deep when it comes to single player/story mode, but the excitement is definitely there for those who enjoy a ridiculous frag fest alone or with some friends. I'm thoroughly pleased with this purchase and you will be too if you're looking for some crazy, amusing frag fun.

This game is what games like DOOM, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Half Life, and Wolfenstein did to FPS games. It sets a standard for other games. This game had me hooked instantly. People complain about the difficulty level. Well there babys. This game isn't short ethier. In fact its quite long. 27 levels to be exact. The game has gourgeos graphics. Very smooth and FAST. Also unlike Unreal Tournament for the PS2, this game is always running at 60 frames per second. Even with 17 people on the screen. There is a level editer, that lets you create a huge building with as many AI opponents as you want. Another thing is that the AI is extremely smart. The computer will duck, run, and hide from you. Then procide to shot you behind a box. It is actually quite amazing. Also the 4 player deathmatches are very fun. They never slow down like Unreal Tournament. Thats right there always at 60 fps, no matter how many people are on the screen. If you get one game for your PS2, get TimeSplitters. It has tons of hours of gameplay and enough things to keep you coming back for more.

full of pros and cons

this is a fun game, no doubt. the controls are at first, difficult, but you slowly get use to them. the story mode is way to short, and a bigger downside, in story mode, you don't get to choose your weapons, you just get what they give you. ive always found a nice sniper rifle very useful and fun.

the deathmatches are very nice. but the areas are small, and besides hiding behind some corridor, to wait for your opponent, there is nowhere to simply lay-low a sniper them from out of nowhere. problems are with the bots, they lack real intelligence. each bot is relentless and simply comes after you with one intention, kill or be killed. your only objective is to kill them first, there is no "hunting" each other.

graphics are a bit weak for a PS2 game, and there is little interaction with other objects. for instance, when you shoot a glass window, it breaks, and that's cool, but that's about it, nothing else to really interact with. crates explode when they are shot, but this is nothing like "duke nukem"....

I only rented this game, i rent all games before i buy, this is a fun game, but i strongly recommend renting it before you buy. ....
