This game is a BLAST

MechAssault is a great Xbox game. If you have played Mech Warrior or BattleTech, you will really enjoy the game. It is a literal "BLAST". If you grew up with the PC versions of the game there are some substantial differences. You live your life in the third party world controlling your mech through a multitude of challenging missions. The true differences from PC to Xbox are there is little to no Mech-Management. You are now the pilot and the focus is the mission, not the Mech. Graphics are fantastic. Buildings explode and then crumble. Mechs suffer, and catastrophically explode. If you have migrated from the PC to the Xbox, the controls are a different (no mouse, no joystick). It takes a very short time to master the controls.

I have had a lot of fun with this game and can not wait to go Live. For me it is a must buy, and the first game I picked up. I hope there is more to come for the Mech Warrior fans.

this game kicks ...! its got alotof action and great graphics.
shoot an office building and look real close, you'll see glass falling. shoot an enemy leg to make him less mobile (and an easier target :$) its not too simple-- im stuck on "wolf in sheeps.." were you gotta run to an enemy complex, stand there for 45sec. and then run like hell to a pick up point wich as of now ive got no clue where it is. anyway!...the soundtracks just OK but the graphics are the point

graphics : 10/10

Sound : 7/10

Gameplay : 10/10

Replay Value : 10/10

immersion : 9/10

This is one of the best XBOX games out there. The single player campaign is great and fun. The graphics are stunning. One of the biggest standouts of this game is the sound. WOW! Once you start to fight an enemy 'Mech, the sound just changes to hard rock/metal and gets your adrenaline pumping. However, the best standout of MechAssault is playing it on XBOX Live. The gameplay with other people and friends is awesome. The types of gameplay are great. And best of all, it is so much fun. You could play it for hours without getting bored. If you get XBOX Live, this MUST be the first game to get with it!

NOT for MechWarrior fans

If you are looking for an XBOX vertsion of another chapter in MechWarrior series, this ISN'T it. This is an extemely dumbed-down version of MW. Even if you (Mechwarrior fans) forget about having no customization, remember this: You can only fire one weapon at at time. You have to cycle between lazers, cannons and rockets. I was bored after about 5 minutes.

Again, people who never played MW series may like this game better.

This game sucks.

I've been waiting for this game to come out for some time now, and I have to say that I'm very disapointed. To be fair, it's ok, but the cons far outweigh the pros. I hate frustration in a game. The fact that if you fail a mission, anywhere in the mission, and you have to start completely over is b.s. Especially if that mission took you over half an hour to get that far. No checkpoints. Sorry, but HALO got me quite used to them. It goes on from there. After all the anticipation, I'm so disgusted I can't see straight. I'm going to list mine on eBay to sell it as soon as I'm done with this review. Save your money and try to find it used. Better yet, just rent it. I'm just gonna wait for HALO 2 to come out. So much for hype.

Great Multiplayer

Frankly, I bought this game because it was one of two games that I thought I would enjoy on Live. And it is really fun. If you don't have the ability to play it online, however, I would not recommend it. The missions are... all the same. It has a really good storyline, but the only really interesting events are when you get a couple of mechs after you at one time. It doesn't really involve a lot of strategy. I just hope that the downloadable content happens soon and that there are some single player missions that beat what comes on the disk.

Wow....

And to think I bought this game as an after-thought when I picked up my Live kit and Ghost Recon. I'm glad that I did, or I would have missed out on hours of fun.

This game has many great merits. First, the graphics are top-notch. Each mech is intricately detailed, and has its own little nuances that set it apart from the others. As you are shooting someone (or being shot), you will see them start to smoke, a little at first, and then more, until finally their mech starts to spark, and then explode. Watching this never really gets old. The motion in the game is very smooth too. For example, mechs will limp as they take on more and more damage.

If you are familiar with Halo's controls, you will feel very at-home with the controls for Mech Assault. The sound is also very nice. With a great deal of bass, and a nice rock soundtrack, you are quickly immersed into the action.

As for the single-player campaign, this is also a lot of fun. You get to choose your mech on some missions, and on others it is chosen for you. There are a variety of mission types, from search-and-destroy missions to protect-the-mothership ones.

While the single-player campaign is fun, you will be spending most of your time playing on Xbox Live (if you have it). Playing alone is definitely entertaining, but when you enter your first 4 v 4 battle, and you start playing with other people who use strategy to defeat the enemy....it is truly an amazing experience.

A GREAT GAME!!

I am just about to beat it. it is very fun, and the best mech game i have played (no, i have not played steel battalion). All of the others are just marching across desert, but this is a fast-paced, high action shooter.
Even without XBOX live support, i would still give it a 5-star rating.

The XBOX live support is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Being an only child, i used to have noone to play multiplayer games with. sure, i could play warcraft battlenet, but it doesnt feel like you're really playing other people. but with live i stay up till 2 am talking with my allies and slaughtering the enemies. it really feels like you are with the other people because of the communicator.

i highly recommend this game.

Great Game... BUT,

You really need XBox Live to enjoy it. I found the single player dull, and very very short (about 4 hours if you have it on normal and take your time, 3 if you put it on easy and zip right through). The local Multi-player is also pretty dull. I would assume that the system link would be alright if you could get 4 XBoxes with a total of 5-8 people in a game, otherwise it's very boring.

If you have XBox Live though, it is an entirely different story. Mech Assault is by far the BEST Live enabled game so far. It experiences generally low amounts of lag, and is amazingly fun to play.

As always, there are some people who are out to ruin the game for everyone else by taking advantage of certain aspects of the game, such as the ability to shoot someone half way across the level with the most powerful weapon in the game, but you quickly learn how to avoid such people, especially with the use of your Friends list.

The Friends list allows you to easily find... well... friends! You can add and delte people as time goes on so that you don't wind up with too many people with bad attitudes playing in your games.

All in all, MA is one of the best games I have played in a very long time, and I've played a lot of games in my time.

Absolutely fabulous. Missions are always loaded with action, and differently from other games ( such as Halo), you have navigational clues that guide you through the mission. There is only one minor drawback: no checkpoints during the game. If you die, you have to restart from the beginning.
