This review is mainly for any parents with younger children out there. Even though this game is rated "T", I have found it to be a good family game. However, it does require some parental supervision.

My wife and I will not let our girls, ages 7 and 9, play games that involve killing animals or people. This has placed some limits on what they can play on the Xbox.

When I first played MechAssault, I didn't think that this would be a game for my girls. In the campaign, they actively encourage you to stomp on troops. Additionally, the language is PG to PG-13 in the missions. That means that the campaign game is definitely out for my girls.

When I sampled multiplayer action, I found a great game for my kids! One map in particular, River City, is where they spend most of their time. Basically, we taught them to work together to level the city as fast as they can (remember that buildings take damage in this game). This promotes teamwork and they have a great time doing it. It only took around 10 minutes to teach them the basic controls and after playing a few sessions they were very proficient with the controls. This is one that they return to frequently. They have occasionally attacked each other, but that is abstract enough (i.e., destroying stuff, not killing people) that we don't have a problem with it.

Naturally, you have to make your own decision about how much violence you will tolerate in a game for your kids. However, if you have rules similar to our (no killing, but destroying stuff is ok) then this title will provide plenty of fun.

On a personal note, I have a great time playing this on Xbox Live. I am not a great player, so I stick to the games where it doesn't matter. The tag game where everyone attacks the player who is "IT" is an ideal one. I have also found friendly players in some of the team games that don't mind having a lesser skilled player along that just wants to have fun. However, using the voice communicator to ask if other players mind is a good idea.

One downside of live is that the "trash talk" can get pretty vulgar. If you are offended by that then either don't use the headset or avoid Xbox live sessions.

Overall, this has been a very FUN game for my family. My wife doesn't get into it, but for myself, my girls, and my teenage son this has been a great purchase!

A fun game, yet tiresome w/out Live

First off, let me say this is a good game. Personally though, I felt that the single player was dissappointing. I used to play one of the MechWarrior games (dunno which one) at my friend's house, and so I thought I'd try it out.

The plot is ok, nothing spectacular. Its too redundant, as a lot of the game is. You are sent on a mission, things go wrong and you've got oodles of enemies on you (the underdog) in no time. Still it never confused me as to what was going on.

Gameplay is very easy to learn, with three types of weapons with upgrades available. The controls are very simple, just pick up and play. There are however, some tedious moments. When you start fighting mechs, you'll realize that its a gruesome job. Be ready to spend minutes just strafing in circles while you shoot at your enemy mech. Don't get me wrong, the game is consuming, and I got very into playing this game, yet there can (and probably will) be several points in the game where you just get so frustrated (mainly when you are massively outnumbered).

Online play with Xbox Live is fun. Choose your mech and join players from around the nation to battle it out. This is in my opinion, the greatest part of the game. You can play on a team, or do an all out free for all. Live's chat ability makes the game very fun, although players rarely use (or talk into) the headset. Microsoft also promises new mechs, maps, and game modes, to further the games replay value, but it seems they will not be available in the near future. Without Live, this game has relatively poor replay value. The single player mission, which can be skillfully mastered (on easy) in about 5 or 6 hours, is no match to playing with players across the country.

Sound is amazing, presented in surround (if you have it) to give an added effect of realism to the game. Each weapon has a unique sound and you can hear "clanking" as your mech walks or turns.

Graphics are very good, and a great advance from the game's PC series. Weapon animations are outstanding, as are the explosions. You can even see your footprints in the ground and holes in building that you have been shooting at.

Overall this game is good. It is mainly built for Xbox Live online play, so I would recommend it to anyone with Live. If you don't have Xbox Live and you get this game, you should definately consider buying Live, as the single player and split screen can get old. I suggest renting it, seeing how you like it, and then deciding if the game is worth the money.

This game has some great fun value on Live. I love the times when your mech is limping (they do that when they are low in armor) and you somehow manage to take out one of the other team's mechs, causing the complete opposing force to become wiped out in the firey death from the explosion! (Only happened once, but the whole team was laughing)

Fun game

This game has very nice graphics and is fairly simple to play. It is a game to have on your X-Box collection as it makes for great entertainment specially with a group of friends. The price for it on this website is outdated though, since this is now on the Platinum Hits for a lower price.

Wonderful Gameplay. Wonderful Graphics. Wonderful Replay.

This game is a sure buy for any Mechwarrior fan or first person shooter lover. The graphics aren't only good, they're amazing!!! Everything in the worlds are fully destructable. There are tons of 'mechs to choose from, and many different weapons. Best of all, its online!!! The Xbox live gameplay is the best yet. Up to 8 players can battle it out and fight to the death. This game should definitly be top on your list!

Everything in the game is excellent, only one thing bothered me but not much. Thats that there are no check points so if u die u gotta start over. Which can get annoying in the late missions.

Amazingly fun - I miss it now
