This is the only Dragonball Z game I have played so it is the best by far. It is a good game for fans of the show as well as people who aren't as familiar with the material. For one thing it allows you to see the story progress all the way through the cell saga in a very short amount of time. It may not seem that way but if you have seen the show you'll know what I'm talking about. It's a good show but it can be, I don't know, a little SLOWPACED at times. But that's another subject altogether.

There are many different modes in this game, the regular story mode, the tournament mode which is where most of the replay value lies and the Hercule mode which can be unlocked after winning the tournament on advanced mode, I think. The best feature is the ability to collect capsules and customize your fighter.

The actual fighting is pretty good although the characters seem to move a little slower than I would like. Doing the special moves can be a problem as well. I would usually have to resort to using one move over and over again because that's the only one I could pull off. But that is a problem with a lot of fighting games. The big thing for me was being able to collect all seven Dragonballs but the prize for doing this seems somewhat underwhelming. In the show the only thing the wishes ever get used for is bringing people back from the dead so what does someone wish for when no one has died? Super strength? Invincibility? Nope, the only thing you can wish for is a capsule that will let a character be able to use every special attack in battle. That is weak and lame, especially since I just noted I can barely pull off half the combos. Thanks for getting my hopes up for nothing.

Other than that this game is worth the money, especially now that it's on sale. Pick it up!

AWESOME

This game is cool it has a great story mode. It shows the whole DBZ episodes except they're cut short like 2-3 min and only the action. There is almost no talking and then fighting NO, just fighting and a bit talking. You fight Cell and the androids and you can use some of the characters you can't use on DBZ Budokai 2. But in the other game you also use some that you can't use on this one. Here you can be the bad and good guys except the guy with the red skin and Android #20. This is a great game BUY IT!!!

I don't want to stop playing.

This game has great graphics! There's a wide selection of characters that you get to choose from. You can customize them to make the ULTIMATE character. There are so many things to do I can't stop playing. This game is really fun. The game is easy to understand yet challenging. It's the best game I have.

This game follows the Dragonball Z series from the beginning to the end of the Cell Saga--which is the most annoying thing about it. DBZ doesn't end at the Cell Saga, it ends at the end of the Buu Saga. But the Buu Saga hadn't been shown in America at that point and...
Aw, darnit, I'm going off on a tangent.
Anyways, this game uses a 3D field in one-on-one, hand-to-hand combat, following the battles from the series. This first game uses 3D models, unlike it's sequel; they can be a bit unrealistic at times, but they're well-enough done that it doesn't really matter. The controls (like in any other fighting game) are a bit complicated, but easy enough to use once you've learned them. The gameplay is fun, the voiceovers are wonderful, and the ability system is great. Overall a wonderful game.

The Budokai series is the best! This game is on my top ten favorite games of all time! Budokai rules! I can play the game for hours. Story mode is good. The controls could use a little more work but overall they are ok.

My grandson, who is 10, plays this game alot. He likes it so much, he wants Boduki 2! It tells you the story of DBZ and you get to fight most of the important characters. But after you get far into the game, then you run out of things to do and it gets too hard. After you beat the main people, like Cell, and advance mode in Martial Arts Competition then there isn't much to do. But for the hours of fun it offers it is a good game. He plays it often and there is always something you can do on the game.

This game is fun!!! I have DBZ Budokai for the PS2 and the Gamecube. The best part is story mode. On the PS2 version I have everything except for about 19 breakthroughs. On story mode you go from the Saiyan saga to the Cell saga. There are also duel, world tournament, practice, and edit skills mode. And 23 charactors to play them as. Here is a secret: You can also get "The Legend of Hercule" mode. Your Hercule and fight everyone at the Cell Games. Now here is a trick(ecspecially for advanced world tournament):Put "Viral Heart Disease," "Vaccine," and "Senzu Bean" in your custom tray and thats all you need to win. Just don't get a "ring out." I give this game seven "DRAGONBALLS."

A flawed single player game.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai was a very fun game at first, but after the three hours I played it, I realized it was both repetitive and easy to play. I had a lot of fun getting all of the characters, which there were many of, but I quickly got bored with the stale fighting system, which, when you started, had only punches, kicks, and kamehameha.
The multiplayer, on the other hand, was great. Fighting against friends who obviously spent too much time on it made it really challenging. Of course, if you spend too much time playing it, you can become unbeatable, with moves like "Cell's Spaceship", which gives you an extra life, while the other guy is half dead. While this was a fun game, you won't get much play out of it.
