This game was a jewel to find. It was a blast to play. If you want a great review of the game, head on over to Gamespy (http://ps2.gamespy.com/playstation-2/lego-star-wars/599847p1.html) and check out their review. And I agree with them 100%. The game was incrediably fun to play. It is a children's game i mus say. The comedy used in cutscenes tended to be a little slapstick and there was a lack of mature humor. But i still laughed. The game utilizes its the lego half of the game very well, using the Force to manipulate lego blocks, build bridges and such. But one of the coolest parts of the game is that you can play the game with so many unlockable characters regardless of how the scene in the movie actually went. Want to have clone troopers fight in Thead or perhaps have Yoda fight Darth Maul in Episode 1? Go for it! You can unlock players with the games money system and go back to a free play mode where you can access any cleared stages and play with any unlocked characters (any!). Cool thing is that you can do more now with the unlocked characters and take advantage of their cool stuff (Like jango's jet pack) I just loved seeing who was the best to fight against Darth Maul at the end if the Ep 1 part of the game. I must say that using Amidala was a pretty nifty challenge, but Darth Maul turned out to be his own worst enemy. The game covers the first 3 movies. Though the game is short, its got a lot of replay value. And there's even a great multiplayer. It's kinda like Sonic games where player 2 could come in anytime and play as Tails. If player 2 wants to leave he can and the AI picks up after a few seconds.

I wouldn't rate this up in the Kotor quality of a Star Wars game, but then again it's Lego! It's quirky, fun and great for all ages. Just blasting a battle droid or an obstacle and watching it fall apart into Lego bricks was enough to hook me in. This game fall under one of those types that's just fun to play. I rank it up there with Katamari and R-Type final for just vast and easy fun to pick up on the spur of the moment. It is really worth taking a look at.

Really fun game

Now, a lot of gamers wont pick up this game because they believe it to be too kiddy or childish. Granted, it is geared towards children somewhat, and isn't overtly difficult or mature. However, this is a really entertaining game with a lot to do.

You play through key points in Star Wars episodes I through III, so you get to play some of the third installment before it's even out in theatres (if you get the game before then, that is). The translation between the films to the game (LEGO style) is spot on, and you'll remember and enjoy playing through all the key events.

There's a lot of variety in this game. TONS, and I mean TONS, of extras, unlockables, characters, and different styles of play in different levels. There's even podracing! Each level just feels right and is fun to play. As you gain and unlock characters you can go back to a level and get items you couldn't reach before, because of the new character's abilities. Not only that, but there's a Free Play mode where you can just scour the level for currency and the like, or just to enjoy it again at your leisure.

Also, there's an extremely awesome co-op mode. At any time another player can jump in and start playing right along with you, either as one of the characters in the current story (in Story mode) or just about anyone in Free Play mode. This really adds to the fun factor and never gets old. I love that they included this.

Visual presentation is stellar. Everything is authentic Star Wars, yet authentic LEGO. It's really cool how well they did everything. On a technical standpoint, the game definitely isn't bleeding-edge or anything, but it isn't trying to be, and it looks really great anyway. There are some nice effects (lightsabers, explosions, floor reflections) too. Audio is PERFECT Star Wars.

All in all, this is a surprisingly fun game. With all the unlockables the replay value of this game is outstanding, and everything is a breeze to play. Not overtly kiddy, simplistic, or easy, people of all ages and tastes (even if you don't like LEGO or Star Wars) will get enjoyment out of this game. Don't be put out by its demeanor: you'll have a great time with this.

I definitely recommend LEGO Star Wars as a buy for the PS2 or Xbox. The PC version has kind of clunky controls, and the co-op isn't as good. I haven't played the GBA version. The < $40 price tag is nice as well.

Go get LEGO Star Wars!

Funny that Lego would get it right...

This game has many great features. First and foremost, it is the best Star Wars movie game released to date. The game plot is based on the three prequal movies, Episodes I, II, and III. The are no stupid uses for force powers and the game moves along very quickly. You have ultra cool characters (Mace Windu, Darth Vader, Obi Wan, Anakin, etc) all in Lego mode. Playing in two people mode makes the game even more fun. My only complaints were the tricky camera and there are certain parts of the game (like racing) that are harder in two player mode than in one player mode. This is NOT because the game makes it harder succeed because of the two people instead of one, but because of the camera. Kids will love this game and play it for a long time. Adults can probably beat it while their kids are napping. It has a couple of small Episode III spoilers. I would play this game before any other Star Wars movie games.

Fun and Pure Eye Candy!

I haven't been able to put this game down since I first popped it in! EVERYTHING about this game is fun! The graphics are WONDERFUL! The characters are fun and loveable! The game mechanics in its guts is a BLAST to play! I love collecting the new people and unlocking things like finding all of the parts of different ships so you can look at them later in the garage. The puzzles are fun and inventive! The game is for young kids to adults. Its not hard at all but is just plain fun for hours! After you finish a level etc you can go back with new characters and find new things that you couldnt get earlier. ie...Obi Wan cant jump high enough so in some levels to reach another area you need someone who can jump higher, after you beat one level with Jar Jar you can go back and use him to reach it. Nuff said! Fun and simple!

Dont buy this game at this time

Finally a PS2 game that I can play (I'm 12.5) but my 6 yr old brother can play as well! This is one of the funniest games out there for Star Wars. The programmers must have had a blast creating this one because they make fun of some scenes in Star Wars and it works. My brother and I have invited friends over to see this game and now they all want it. Even my Mom plays it and she cracks up laughing.

Surprisingly Very Fun!

I was a Little Hesitant to buy this game, seeing as I don't like Star Wars in the die hard fan way, and lego really was never my thing. But, I thought I'd go out on a limb and see if it was worth the hype. All I can say is WOW ... this game is so very addicting, and fun.. I haven't stopped for more than a few hours at a time! I'd even go as far to say that I hope they'll make a Lego Star Wars for episodes 4,5,and 6! My only complaints are that I wish the game was longer, (I know I'm nearing the end of the game and I just don't want it to be over yet!) and, It's a little easy in terms of difficulty.. I wish there was an option to change the difficulty settings somewhere but not that I've seen so far. Granted, I know it is supposed to be for kids more than adults.. On the good side, huge replay value, as you are able to go back and replay the levels that you previously played with new characters you get at the ends of certain levels. and when you go back and replay the levels, you are able to explore new areas that you couldn't reach before the first time around! oh and I love the 2 player co-op drop in drop out feature.. bascially you can play with a friend at the same time as a team and if they feel like they wanna let the computer take over for them and go have a break they can simply drop out of the game and then drop right back in again when they are ready! anyway this is a must have for lego and star wars fans and non fans alike! happy gaming!

Anyone who overlooks this game because it's for kids is making a big mistake. This is a great, fun game for all ages! You will play through all three of the prequel episodes: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.

The developers did a wonderful job making the gameplay pretty easy so that kids won't have trouble with it, but putting in enough extras and unlockables so that older gamers will keep Lego: Star Wars in their PS2 for quite a while. There is even an unlockable level from Episode 4! You will be challenged to scour every level so that you can achieve "True Jedi Status", and so you can find every hidden Lego minikit. In order to find some of these hidden items, you will have to take advantage of all your different characters' special abilities. Warning: This requires some thought.

Another fun feature is the cooperative mode. While this is a great game to play by yourself, everything's more fun when you got a buddy fighting alongside you. It's possible to play through all three episodes with a friend in one day. Of course you don't have to fight WITH him--in the lobby area, you can duel your friend: Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul, Qui-Gon vs. Anakin, Maul vs. Vader, Anakin vs. Vader, or better yet, Yoda vs. Sidious. Whatever two characters you've ever wanted to see fight each other--it can finally happen! Of course, you'll have to unlock these characters first.

The only complaint I have about this game is that a few parts in certain levels are frustrating. An example is the duel with Darth Maul. I found it almost impossible to beat this level without a friend because Maul keeps lifting you of the ground using the force. There is no defense against this. In order to hurt him, you have to have two guys attacking him simultaneously. The computer-controlled teammate doesn't always fight the way you want him to, so I found that Darth Maul killed me about 20 times before I killed him. (You have unlimited lives, however) Luckily, it's a lot easier with a friend controlling your teammate.

These problems are tiny compared to the good parts of this game, so you need to buy this game right now.
