''An another amazing fighting game to hit the PS2!''

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

Let's give Namco some credit: Namco is the only company that makes fighting games this good and here comes Tekken number 4, with better gameplay and more brutal fighting moves, this is a game that you surely don't want to miss out!

The gameplay is as smooth as silk, just as you would expect it from the arcades back in time, but in the PS2 conversion, the gameplay is much easier! The controls, they make me feel like I'm in heaven, more suped up than the arcades, and they're not button mashers (What I mean is that the gameplay is much more responsive and fluid than the arcades!) You cannot expect to press the buttons on the controller so hard to execute a move or two!

I don't really care much about the graphics, despite the fact it is more stuuning than the arcade, and I have seen obvious facelifts in them, because of the PS2's power! What I care about is the gameplay only!

Overall this game is outstanding, and Namco truly shows off its talent on this one, it is highly recommended to all Tekken fans, whether american or not, beginners or advanced, they'll truly appreciate the gameplay and controls that made this game a benchmark for fighting games, I give it 5 stars!

The Best Fighting Game To Hit The PS-2!!!!!!!!!!

This game is the greatest game ever to hit the PS-2!!!! Graphic wise no game can come close. The detail is phenominal the characters look real better than Tekken Tag. You can see their facial expressions when they punch kick or when they get hit. The water ripples exactly when it needs to. The Stages are what make the game really appealing. Every stage looks real the crowds look like tekken tag but its okay they also run away from you if you get too close and if they get in the way you can beat them up or if you miss with an attack with good range you can knock out a person in the crowd. Game play is great it will take a little getting used to since they changed a few things like the throws and jumping but you should become a natural after getting that down. Its also a lot faster than Tekken Tag if you know what you are doing and just as fast or faster than Soul Calibur. There are new game modes that are pretty much the same as previous games. Be prepared for Tekken Force and be sure you are pretty much an expert with the character you use or else you will be overwhelmed by the massive amounts of soldiers that come out. My advice is to use the walls when you get massive amounts of people fighting you. Going back to the graphics if you have a HDTV and a monster game componet cable then you will get graphics that will beat the movie sequences of most games. The only part of this game I don't like is that the ending movies are done in real time. What this is is the backrounds are in movie format and the characters are highly rendered and I mean Highly rendered its almost Movie format but its not. But the fact you can see them over and over again in theater mode more than makes up for it. The second problem that I missed is they don't show all the characters in the intro movie which is sadly the only real movie in the game since the others are done in real time. Last is the tag feature is gone I felt that they could have made a tag mode then again they may make a Tekken Tag 2. Other than that I would highly recomend getting this game over any fighting game!!!! Get monster game cables to get the best graphic preformance!

I've only read a few of the reviews for this game, so I'm probably repeating a lot of what's already been said.
I also haven't played it in several, several months. I bought it soon after it came out, played it for a couple of weeks, and...well, like I said, I haven't played it for a long time...

The graphics are GREAT in Tekken 4, but this game is also one of those games that kicks you in the head and says, "Sucka, graphics aren't everything." Tekken Tag is WAY better. And going back, I'd have to say that even 3 was better. The fighting system in Tekken 4 has changed, a lot. I ended up having to re-learn a lot of the moves from my favorite characters (mainly Yoshimitsu). It's also now harder to jump and duck, those being (partially) replaced with up being where your character walks into the background and down where he walks into the foreground (I say partially because sometimes you can jump and duck, but it's often not when you want to). That's fine and all, but I would much rather jump over a sweep than to step into the background and get swept anyway. Also, now instead of having 2 throw options, you have only 1: LP + LK is no longer a throw, but rather a "push around" move. You can push the other character different directions (depending on which direction on the D-pad you push), but this feature I found almost completely useless. If you're thinking, "Hey, if LP + LK is no longer a throw, does that mean they got rid of half the throws?", you're close. There are quite a lot of throws missing from the game, but there are a few of them have been reworked so that you have to perform them differently (going back to the having-to-relearn-the-moves part). I was completely shocked to find out that they got rid of, in my opinion, the most awesomest graple move in Tekken 3: Clonimitsu. Sure a lot of the throws did the same amount of damage as others, but having all those throw options meant defeating your opponent with a different message: "Should I totally knock him out with a devastating sword hilt smash to the face? or should I totally disrespect him with a 69 slam?"
Now with the characters, there are a few new faces, but there are more than a few missing ones. I guess Namco decided to do away with most of the derivatives; Jin isn't even a derivative of Kazuya anymore, he has a completely different set of moves! I always enjoyed the derivatives, because if you didn't like one, a lot of the times you found something cool with the other. I didn't like King, but liked Armor King, didn't like Kunimitsu, but liked Yoshimitsu, didn't like Nina, but liked Anna. Now most of the derivative characters I liked using are gone, so I'm left with only one character I really like (Yoshimitsu), and they screwed up his appearance so much that I'm not sure he's even that cool anymore. Now I'm left with the same-old same-old characters and some new, uninteresting ones as well.
The replayability of this game is WAY down. Although unlocking all the characters' cinemas goes fast, I couldn't sit there long enough to bring myself to unlock everyone's. And I didn't even TOUCH the Tekken Force mode because I was so tired of playing the game. Namco really left out the Easter Eggs that helped the Tekken games continue being fun even months after you did everything.
Oh, one good thing is that you can partially interact with the environment. Woo hoo.

I think the only reason this is a 3-star review instead of a 2-star one is that it's Tekken. You really should rent it before forking out a lot of cash. You'll probably get most, if not ALL of your enjoyment from this game within the 5-day rental span. I hope review this helps.

Tekken4 is a good installment

From my many hours and dollars worth of arcade experience I can safely say that Tekken 4 is a very satisfying game with great improvements over previous installments. The fighting system allows for individual players to adopt their own strategies and learn to best use each player to be effective in those strategies (I.E. Defensive v. Aggressive style players, etc.).

I can't help but compare this game to Virtua Fighter 4, which I still consider to be the definitive fighting game so far. Tekken has a diverse range of characters, true, but they can all be used similarly. When I say this, I mean that a player needs only learn to use moves and combos to effectively hammer away an opponents defenses and win matches. There is less strategy than brute force, and this is in some ways a very admirable thing. However, the game lacks the solid fighting system and overall grace that VF4 reigns in.

I once read a review that stated that Tekken was to hip-hop as Virtua Fighter is to Ballet. That's the best comparison between the two I've seen. I think this game is definetely worthy of a place in the library of any fighting game afficionado simply because it embraces a certain brutal aspect of the fighting genre.

THIS GAME ROCKS!!!

Tekken 4 is the best game ever! It has the arcade version, the story battle where you can play the characters story and when you win it has an awesome 3D movie. Training mode teaches you how to preform the moves, Practice you have a traing dummy that stands their while you beat him up and you can watch a move be proformed, and tekken force you go through several levels beating up Mishima Force Guards. You can slam enimies into walls and statues to take damage. This game is teen for two reasons 1.Realistic Blood 2.Some Foul Language but besides that the game ROCKS!!! If you are a fan of the previous games or fighting style games you will love this!

What can I say? It's Tekken.

Distinctive characters, various fighting styles, very fast and responsive game play. If you've played Tekken before, you know what to expect from this game.

Having just played Tao Feng (an utter disappointment), I felt compelled to review this game. Tekken has everything that Tao Feng doesn't: deep gameplay, counter moves, counter counter moves, characters with personality and georgeous, reactive controls.

The only complaints I have about this game regard the soundtrack- which is odd and complicated, kinda jazzy and cacophonous, not catchy at all- and the character color scheme, which ranges from decent (Jin, Kazuya) to unpleasant and garish (Nina, Heihachi in diapers).

Virtua Fighter is the only fighting series which compares with Tekken.

Buy only if you're a Tekken fan, Tekken game collector, or just want to play Tekken force

I don't really have this game. I only played this at an Internet Cafe. The opening movie was great, but the whole game was mediocre. The graphics suck. The stories are stupid. There are few characters.(20) The only reason I wanted to play this was because I wanted to play Tekken force. I tell you. Only buy this if you're desperate.

Is this the end of Tekken?

Tekken 4 without a TAG TEAM option that its processor had makes it only half of what it could have been. It a big con to what could have been a five star game. Sadly Tekken is not what is used to be.

To be honest Namco's Tekken entries since the initial release of the PS2 have done nothing but knock this fighter flat on its face, but before we get to the cons lets talk a little about the pros. Tekken 4 corrects a number of Tekken game play issues, but is limited to a shocking 10 players, reducing it by 20 from the previous 30 player staggering TAG entry. Tekken 4 also gives us an extra one-player level fight setting and improves on the graphics and combos.

Tekken 4 provides about 70 moves for each character (with some additional multiple combo configurations) and corrects the TAG fight move-sharing problem meaning that most characters do not share many moves which is good. So if you are looking for more unique moves per character then Tekken 4 has it, however TAG wins Tekken 4 in terms of its lifespan and game play (even if you own Tekken 4 friends will still ask you to put this disc in), so the tag game play makes TAG a better buy. Tekken 4 has solved the old `this character is better than that character' syndrome, which to be honest, has never changed in any game series as some character moves are simply impossible to pull-off with years playing with them, making them hard to win with. Tekken 4 is more balanced and easier to fight with making it a more fluid fighting game. Although Tekken 4's graphics are better than TAG's graphics it is still a tiny bit of let it down, especially if you play something like Virtual Fighter 4. The background/platform disconnection problems with the fighting platform in TAG (you can see the bad anti-aliasing moving out of sync with the background creating a dizzy fighting experience that is unpleasant on the eye) has been solved in Tekken 4 and looks more real with objects that explode and crowds that get knocked over. All great improvements.

However TAG rulez Tekken 4 and this is bad news for Namco because this game is not even remotely close to the kind of quality that they could have delivered on... and believe it or not, Tekken TAG isn't a whole pile better either. The PS2 has not had the good Tekken gamer it deserves which is sham because Tekken is only available on the PS2! This one gets 3 stars because TAG gets 4 and TAG is better.

Pros:
- Better graphics than TAG.
- Better backgrounds with some environmental damage.
- Better character strength matching, easier to control, better moves.

Cons:

- NO TAG!
- ONLY 10 characters!
- Not better than TAG.
- Does not deliver anything expected of the Tekken series on the PS2.

Hello I have been a Tekken fan since 96 and the games keep getting better and better. About a month ago i heard about Tekken 4. I went to the Typhoon arcade and played tekken 4. It is the best game ever. Graphics are perfect and pretty much Everything is upgraded. If I had to pick over Virtua Fighter 4 or Tekken 4, It would totally be Tekken 4. Cant Wait until it comes out

Nothing New...Virtua Fighter 4 wins this round

Tekken 4 is a lackluster remix of the previous tekken titles, minus the ingenuity of Tekken Tag. The characters are NOT balanced very well at all in this fighter. The only things this has going for it are the VERY nice graphic, the destructible environments and the Tekken name. Tekken seriously needs a wakeup and add something new to the series the way Tony Hawk is. For this year, choose Virtua Fighter 4, which has got everything this has got (Except the mission style mini-game brawler, which doesn't even reward you anyway!) and more. VF4 is the most balanced fighter since Soul Calibur, the controls just "feel" right. If this game didn't even have the Tekken name to it, it wouldn't even get on the top 20 sellers list. Stick with this year's winner Virtua Fighter 4 and wait for next years Soul Calibur 2.
