My First Football Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This is me very first football game and it's definatly the best. I've played other football games at my friend's house and this is the best by far. I haven't seen 2001 on PS2, but my friend says that this is better by far. The ability to sign free agents and re-sign players is very good. The trades are realistic and are rarly done, too. Very good game. Worth the money.

Madden is still KING!

I bought last years game and was blown away at how good it was, so this year I was expecting more and more I got. Same realism as always better QB's really make a difference, and try this if you want realism go to Redskins take Sanders who's say an overall 80 at cornerback and move him to one of the safty spots and watch his overall drop into the 70's how awesome is that play someone out of postion and they take a ratings hit overall the improvements from last years game more then justify a new purchase long live Madden

Best football game ever.

I think that this is the greatest football game ever. I have madden 2003, nfl 2k3, and I had nfl 2k2 and I believe that this is better then all of them. I love the player introductions and what happened to them on 2003 it is dull. It has pretty much the same gameplay and graphics, but is a lot more fun. If you just want graphics go with 2k2 or 2k3 if you want gameplay definitely go with madden 2002, and it also has a great franchise mode.

I love this Game!

Well,
I just want to say that this games truly rocks! I love the graphics, the animations, sound bytes, season and franchise mode and the hype of going thru a season/play-offs and going all the way against the computer in all-madden mode. As a matter of fact I just lead my San Fransico 49'ers to a "Super Bowl win in year 1 in franchise mode against the Indianapolis Colts on Chirstmas eve 2003. (final score 24-21)I am getting ready to shape my roster to start year 2. In fact I love the on the field graphics even better than "NFL MADDEN 2004", although the 2004 version has more features both on and off the field I still think the overall on the field animation and clear cut look around the field and view of the players is better and more realistic than '04. Heck, I didn't care to buy the 2003 or 2004 version. I'am quite satisfied with "NFL MADDEN 2002". I hope that the 2005 game is similar in on the field style and graphics as 2002, then I would like to upgrade perhaps. I won't deny I wish the play-by-play comentary was a bid sharper with each play and situation, sometimes I hear good old John Madden say a comment that has nothing to do with what's really going on in the game. For instance, I am playing a game right, and its barely still early in the first or second quarter and say I am loosing by 7-10 points and I decide to run the ball and John says, its no longer time to run the ball any more. Could it be that I play 6 minute quarters? Oh well, things like that. I also would love to see more hype and celebration after each win! Special after a play-off win, and oh yeah, please make more on the field celebration and commenatary after getting and winnig the SUPER BOWL! How about showing the legendary Lombardy Thorphy please!

Your game guides come in very handy thank you! I do own the game guide for "MADDEN 2002" it has made me a much better player.

I hope this games keep getting better in every way!

Sincerly,

Julio

i don't actually own this game but i've played my buddy's copy enough to know the good and bad. let's start with the bad: the running game. it kinda sux. unless you're a great team against a really weak team, or you juice up the run block and running back ability settings, don't expect too many yards. there's also a little slowdown here and there. i also think they could've done a better job on the players, especially the qb's, they all look the same. other than that, i've had hella fun playing this. i've played others but i think madden still has it.

2002 is better than any other FB game out

This is without a doubt the best Football game out this year. EA has really improve the game play spiced up the graphics, and generally kicked...on this game. If you want "the game to own" this is it.

Best Gridiron Game Ever but could be slightly better!

Madden is the best footbal videogame ever, hands down! The graphics are incredible, the depth is amazing, and the gameplay is tight! My only complaint is with the levels of difficulty. The game rarely rewards good play execution on the higher difficulty levels. For example, the same plays that work on the Rookie or Pro levels mysteriously don't work on the All-Pro or All-Madden levels even though your receivers are equally wide-open! Nothing is more frustrating than to have an All-Pro receiver consistenly drop easy passes for no apparent reason! Furthermore, your receivers run bad routes more often in the higher difficulty levels. I thought the computer AI was supposed to get better on harder difficulty levels not have your teammates' AI get worse! To make matters worse, the computer sometimes makes plays that literally defy the laws of physics! In one instance, the computer punted the ball all the way down to the 2 yard line. Naturally, I decided not to return the ball and just let it bounce into the endzone. Well, instead of the ball's natural momentum causing it to bounce into the endzone, the ball literally didn't bounce at all and just died on the 2 yard line, giving me horrible field position! This was an impossible play that simply DOESN'T HAPPEN in real-life! Plays like this happen far too often for my taste!
Ultimately, Madden 2002 is the greatest football game ever! Nothing can take that away. However, EA needs to further tweak the AI so that the abilities of your teammates are not compromised while enhancing those of your opponent. My advice is play against human opponents whenever possible because the computer CHEATS!

This game is da best

This game is so sweet. You can get madden cards and use them to access secret teams, stadiums, and historic players such as Dan Marino. You can even create a team and start a franchise. You can control this team for up to 30 years. The graphics are great, as most have come to expect from the Madden series. You can even create your own coach!

A Very Good Game

With only a few slight problems, this is a very good game. Let's start off with the good...

-Madden Cards: These rock. I admit I felt the best NFL game was the NFL 2k series, until I played and used Madden Cards. The opportunity to use historic teams and players is a great idea! It adds a different element to the game which I enjoy.
-NFL re-alignment: I really liked the fact that they included the new alignment for the 2002 season and beyond. the addition of the Houston Texans was cool, but I truly like being able to see what the league will look like next year.
-Depth: This game has depth and then some. You not only draft players, you juggle the salary cap, sign free agents, re-sign current players, etc... I don't see how much deeper you can go than this!
-Graphics: Of course they are great! The movements are fluid, the bodies are realistic... everything a modern gamer could want in a football game. I do wish they showed more of the stadiums and I wish that, when you win the SuperBowl there was more of a celebration to it (more graphics and done in cinema mode would be cool) rather than simply being carted off the field, but these are minor things.

The BAD...
-Passing and Running: I've found passing is quite difficult and running seems to be quite easy. Maybe it's just me, but I have a very hard time completing passes while I seem to run for over 200 yards/game on a regular basis.
-Defensive line: The defensive line rush is almost non-existant. I usually play one of the guys on the line and have found it's quite difficult to get to the passer. However, the computer doesn't seem to have much of a problem rushing my QB!
-Madden and Pat: I have to admit, the announcing is horrible. They really need to get more lines and some get rid of some of the old ones. Pat still uses the "The fore-arm shiver" line and Madden is still annoying. The announcing for NFL 2K2 was, in my opinion better.

All in all you can't go wrong with this game. I didn't find it to be quite as fun as NCAA2002, but that's not to say it's a bad game. On the contrary, this is a good game and well worth the price.

Great, but still needs improvements

I love this game. It's ultra-realistic (most of the time) and can teach you how to play football correctly. I like to see and hear Madden's suggestions before I pick a play on offense for curiosity's sake. I love the franchise mode, selection of plays (hit left and right buttons on some formations for even MORE plays!...WOW!).

CONS:

The game cheats.
Not just on All-Madden mode, either. Of course, the sliders and cheats are there to try to equal things out, but sometimes I'm cursing at the game for being unrealistic. I want a game that's as close to real life football as possible.

Scrambling Quaterbacks?
I'm still fumbling the ball...and I'm using Kordell Stewart!!!! He NEVER fumbles, and he's a great runner, but in Madden 2002 I can't seem to get him to scramble and/or run successfully!

Make custom plays?
It would be cool if we could create custom plays. For example, the STEELERS have many trick plays and other plays designed especially for Kordell to run, but you can't get that from this game.

Reverses NEVER works for me.

All in all, though, I love this game, and keep playing it, but I still want something that's closer to real life.
