Great game, but Johnny doesn't know what he is talking about

I loved this game! Once you figure out how to trade players and create teams you are all set for a fun experience. The graphics are so vivid and real also. But, I own a copy of Madden 99 and it's gameplay shows that the series has gone down a little. This is only because of the fact that it is nearly impossible to change your depth chart during gameplay, and out of it. Also, the commentary leaves alot to be desired. Pat Summeral and John Madden make alot of mistakes as I have noticed. On a 4th and 6 for example they will say that I have 5 yards to go, or that I am on a third down! At one point I was Minnesota playing against New York. When I got possesion they said that New York got the ball! Big mistake in programming. Although the indepth commentary that John gives on some players is very realistic. All in all, if you don't listen to the commentary, you will have alot of fun with this game!

JOHN MADDEN 2K2 FOR PLAYSTATION IS SO LIFELIKE WITH THE PLAYERS MOVEMENTS AND LOOKS IT'S UNBELIEVABLE. IN ADDITION TO THE COACHES LOOKS, CHALLENGE OF THE PLAY, AND CAMERA ANGLES THIS GAME HAS ALL OF THE MAKINGS OF A CLASSIC. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME.

Madden 2002 is an excellent game. Stop whining about the game "cheating". In most sports games (and the early versions of Madden football were bad for this), it is too easy to win and it becomes boaring. I could win the superbowl on an old version of madden football by continually running just one offensive play. This (2002) is a great game, and the All-Madden level is challenging enough that you will never be able to "dominate" it, so there will still be some point in playing the computer when you have "mastered" the game. I agree, some of the penalty calls are frustrating, and I've missed some field goals that leave me scratching my head, but that's football. I love the "fanchise mode". It's like being able to play a playing card style fantasy game, and a video game at the same time.

This game, I think, is much better than the previous Madden games for PS1 and PS2. The best new feature is the two minute drill. You get the ball on your own 20 yard line and if you score, you get the ball there again. You try to score as many times as you can and for each play, you get points. This leads to the familiar Madden Card tokens. There are a couple good new cheats on Madden Cards as well. While kicking is a little harder, the graphics are slightly better than the last one and the moves and catches are better as well. Overall, this game is worth buying, even if you have 2001

This game is pretty good. I like all the different features it has. Madden cards are cool, if your the one using them. The franchise mode is very indept. Alot better thatn NFL2K. However, NFL2K2 has better commentary and when u play on rookie mode, every reciever is covered on NFL2K. In Madden, you can just put five recievers out and atleast one will be uncovered. When you play Madden, turn commentary off and listen to music. (...) A couple more pluses to Madden is that it has more teams. All of this year's teams, teams dating back to the 60's, All time teams, NfL Europe teams, Madden teams, and the Texans. There are a lot more features in Madden. For example, 2 minute drill lets you practice your 2 minute drill for tokens. You use tokens to buy Madden Cards. Franchise mode is also more indept. Madden's franchise mode has alot more player statistics than NFL2K. So there is more strategy involved.
ONE VERY CHEAP THING TO DO IS TO CHANGE YOUR PLAYER'S STATS SO THEY ARE FULL. YES, YOU CAN DO THIS. GIVE YOUR PLAYERS 100 STATS IN ALL OF HIS STATS. THIS CAN BE VERY CHEAP.

If YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MORE STATEGY TYPE SIMULATION GAME, GET MADDEN 2002.

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A FOOTBALL GAME WHERE YOU PLAY MORE AND THAT DOESNT HAVE JOHN MADDEN, GET NFL2K.

Madden 2002 has everything any game could ever want! Graphics, Gameplay, ect. Now Madden 2002 has create a team feature, better A.I., more active coaches, and more. I'm positive that this game will be number #1 because there isn't a game possibly better than this game. For all those hard-hitting excited football fans out there this game is definitly for you. Remember, if your thinking about getting Nfl 2k2 there's a better game in town!

What no online play?

I think I am going to wait for SEGA's NFL2k2. It has online play and the players won't look like little munchkins. Plus you will be able to play cross platform so whether your friends have The Dreamcast, Xbox, ps2 or gamecube you will be able to play them online.

This game is awesome. I have played multiple seasons taking a variation of defenses and offenses to 19-0 seasons against humans and computer. This game never gets old, is the best Madden yet. The fantasy draft is the best as well as the off-season schedule. The way to be a master on defense and allow under 68 points in a season (my personal best) is to run a nickel and a 3-4 defense. Run a 3-4 on 1st down and do either a pinch, zone blitz, or a LOLB blitz. The next is two run a nickely package inside blitz. On this formation bring in the two safties a little bit to protect the middle but also be ball hawks creating interceptions. The key two the nickel is having the RLB blitz in between the RE and the DT. This creates a mismatch and allows the line to crumble and give up big sacks (115 in a season, my personal best). If doing a fantasy draft pick a good pass rushing RE, DT, and hard hitting SS and FS. A sick MLB is great to have. (Jerimiah Trotter is one of the best in the game, become a 99 after one season, so does Urlacher, Simon, Thomas, Woodson, and Tomilson always goes up big, not a 99 but he will get there by the fourth season). Pats RULE!!!

I'VE ALWAYS WANTED A FOOTBALL GAME THAT LETS ME CHOOSE THE STRIPES ON MY PLAYERS SOCKS,and thanks to madden,my dreams have come true.Hell,i can even color them flaming pink.After wasting a day accessorizing my players.I took my newfound day glo team to the gridiron where they and their pink socks got the crap knocked out of them by their cheeky uniforms,but rather the game's realism.In fact,i've never had so much trouble scoring touchdowns in a video game as i did with this one.After many failed drives,i tried using my madden 2001 money plays to no avail in the fourth quarter i resorted to long bombs and twitch skills to break a long gainer or two,but that landed me a 28-14 defeat on the tough but fair all pro level.I realized to win i have to dig in my heels and use my head.I moved motion men to strengthen blocking,overloaded coverages with receivers,and kept the defense honest with balanced play calling.You know,genuine football strategy.If that jargon makes your head spin,don't worry .A slick tutorial mode explains strategy,and you earn bonuses for learning.If that doesn't help well,there's always the arcadey rookie mode.The point is,there's something for everyone at no expense to the gameplay.Madden 2002 is so deep,so gorgeous,so realistic and finally so fast,every football fan should own it.
