A Historic groundbreaking game. Exceeds the high bar set by the first sims

I dont know where to start with this game. I started playing this game during this past spring break and I was hooked! You can control the every move of your sim and can build a family tree over time and reach career goals. here are some pros and cons

pros
1.Great Graphics engine. Doesn't require high-end video card
2. Addicting, overs hundreds of hours of play
3. Great customizing features such as houses and sims body shop
4. over 15 different career paths and 10 accurate levels
5. You can command your sims and cancel actions easily
6. easily accesible toolbar
7. You can choose the aspiration path of your new teenager
8. Sims can choose to grow up within a day of the actual automatic date or hold a birthday party
Cons
1. personalitys between siblings are pretty much the same
2. Taking care of infants unrealistically easily
3. Sims can get very confused in tight spaces
4. Fathers traits almost always outweigh mothers traits
5. Teens/adults will deny your orders and relentlessly try to help an infant with its birthday. Takes 5-6 times to work and the sims needs get very low

AND YOU THOUGHT IT COULDN'T GET ANY BETTER...

I remember when the Sims came out. The thought of running a computerized person's life didn't appeal to me at first, but when I recieved the Deluxe Addition, I became a Sims fanatic! I got every expansion pack made, and I was loving it! But when I heard about the magic and new wonders of SIMS 2, I took a look at my old Sims and thought, 'i was obsessed with that??'
I have Sims 2 now and if I had a microphone i would turn it all the way up and scream 'BUY THIS GAME! IT IS THE BEST GAME EVER CREATED BAR NONE!!!' well, since I don't have a microphone, I'll just calmly list the new and awesome features to Sims 2:
****************************************
- sims now have fingers
-sims are much more aware of their surroundings
-sims are more capable of embracing the personality you give them
- sims have DNA which lets them join a partner and get pregnant with infants, who will go through every life phase (baby to toddler to kid to teenager to adult to elder to a gravestone.)
-for all of you people out there who love creating houses and furnishing them, Sims 2 has all new walpapers, floors, and totally realistic house accessories and necessities. Seriously, they look like they came straight from a Home Goods store- they're that real looking.
-sims go through a very fun time- their teens. here the sims of either gender will mature and are capable of flirting and hanging out with another teen of interest. just like humans, sims can flirt with another, but find someone else, and 'dump' their old crush
-basically, SIMS 2 is soooo much fun, and at times you will feel like you are controlling real live humans. Thanx 4 considering this. I know that you will love the game!

Great game, but only buy if you have a new computer.

For me the game works pretty well except if I try to play a huge lot with a bunch of people. Overall it's a great game. The people actually have facial expressions. Sadly the graphics aren't as good as the ones shown on the Sims 2 website, but they are close. There are definetly better choices now for your sims. The asparations can be a bit annoying because a couple could have completely different personalities. For example one of my sims wants to have a kid but his wife fears it so having will make her asparation meter drop. For gameplay I would prefer the original sims but for graphics and personality I would choose the Sims 2. Don't even bother buying this game if your computer was made before 2002 because the game will just be too slow. I have a HP pavilion ith Windows XP that was made in 2003 and its sorta slow. If you want a sims game that is very much like the sims 2 but you don't have to worry about a slow computer I would recomend the Sims Bustin' out for Gamecube or PS2.

Sim addict is disappointed

After playing all of the original Sim expansions with tons and tons of goodies off the Internet, I finally broke down and got Sims 2 like a good little EA consumer. It's just as fun as the original Sims in playing, but overall, I'm very disappointed on what comes in the box.

I had forgotten how limited the original Sims was, before the expansions added more wallpapers, outfits, careers, pets, etc. With the basic Sims 2, I'm back to step one of Simming: basic ugly stuff, most of which doesn't match. (OK, pretend I'm an official Maxis game designer and I make some floors. Why don't I make wallpapers that match??) I'm also disappointed in the careers (yawn). This game is just basically the original Sims on graphical steroids.

The good side of this is that the graphics are quite amazing, and the little movie sequences for WooHoo and having babies are fun (once). There may be others that I have not yet discovered. The genetic stuff is entertaining, but Sims age very quickly so the whole baby/toddler/child/teen thing goes pretty fast. My first girl was out of her teens before I could figure out how to meet half of her interesting new aspirations. [You can slow down the aging rate with either a cheat or with an elixer (which can also speed up the rate if you are not careful with its use).]

The aspirations are one fun new thing. When one of my 'fortune-oriented' sims lost his job on his very first day of existence, he lost his mind & ran around doing a chicken dance, much to my amusement. But since then, his aspirations center on buying stuff... and with such a small, unexciting catalog of stuff to buy, that gets boring very quickly. Aspirations for the others are sometimes easier, sometimes harder to meet, which does add an interesting dimension to the game.

At any rate, I'll be looking for more expansion thingies on the Internet asap, and now the new University expansion is out with more features. I'll give it a try but if it's doesn't add enough new content, I'll just go back to my 2-D Sims and all their fabulous toys.

Best-Game Yet!

The Sims 2 is the best Sims game yet! The reason for that is because of the 3d engine or whatever gets the sims to look almost real or more 3D and that's what makes it better then the regular sims. Also, because of the way that the sims can get older as the game goes on and how you can have more then 2 floors up 3 floors plus a basement. And also how it has different "Create-A-Sim"! You can create a kid, teenager, or Grown-up! So far you can't go anywhere else but to your second house. This game is better than any other Sims game or expansion pack, to me at least. Let's just hope they don't cancel this game like they did "Simsville"!

Bad Purchase

While this game may be fun for those who can get it to work, my advice is to buy it at the start of a weekend from a brick and mortar store. That will give you time to stop payment on your credit card/check if it doesn't work. For the brave ones out there, be ready to do lots of updating to your p/c just to see if it will work for you. Meeting the minimum requirements does NOT mean this game will play. Check out the BBS at www.thesims2.com to see just how many unfulfilled game players there are. My recommendations ......... wait a few more months till EA solves some of the problems with this game before putting any of your money on it. If you have no technical know-how, stay away all together.

An honest review

(I'm not a kid- just didn't want to go trough the hassle of registering. Hope you don't mind)

Yep, that's right. Hold tight, you're about to read the only honest review of the Sims 2.

Min requirements-my machine:

Windows XP/98/2000 etc-Windows XP home edition, only 3 resident programs running in the background (Average PC usage of 2-3%, 4% at max) clean of spyware and viruses (It doesn't have an internet connection to be even safer, I use my laptop to surf the web)

800Mhz-3006 Mhz

256 MB of memory-1 GB

3.5 of free MB- 160 MB free

32 MB Graphics card- 256 MB Nvidia Gforce PCI card (with latest drivers installed)

(things like keyboard, mouse, etc irrelevant.)

The game runs at a crawl-like speed, with occasional hippcups that sometimes end in a total stalemate of the game. I had to pull the plug several times to restart my computer. Reducing the graphics quality would reduce the frequency of the hiccups, but sadly only moderately. The mouse lag was so much that I could barely see my cursor. This and the game speed were unaffected by the level of graphic details no matter how much I tweaked the settings.

E-mails to EA asking for tech support have not been answered. I have avoided using their tech support phone line as they want to tax me 5 us$ p/ minute, and having a lot of experience with tech support phone lines, I can tell that they will start with questions like "Is your computer turned on?" and I have already paid too much money for a product I can't use.

You have been warned; the min. Requirements in the box are COMPLETELY made up.

I am 14, and got the Sims 2 for my birthday this year. My mom didnt want to get it for me because of the Teen rating, but is very pleased with the game. The game is only lives up to the Teen rating if you choose to. You can play the game, and not have anything bad or sexual going on. I have been playing this game for 2 weeks now, and I love it. My 10-year-old sister loves playing it too. She finds it very easy to control, and very fun.
I love making families, decorating their houses, and directing their lives. Its a lot of fun. I would give this game 10+ stars. I also got the Family Fun expansion pack, and I would recommend that also. You get a lot of cool stuff to decorate the rooms with including a princess bedroom set, a aquatic bedroom set, and some Hawaiian duds for your Sims. I really, really enjoy this game and would reccomend it to anyone and everyone.

Fun Virtual Life Simulator, Very Different from Original

I was a big fan of the original The Sims (and its many expansion packs). So, when the Sims 2 came out, I bought a copy.

At first, I was disappointed because the gameplay was pretty different (Wants/Fears added) and the expansion packs didn't seem as surreal as the first one (they seem to be more "reality" focused, whereas I prefer more surreal additions).

Eventually, when I stopped comparing the 2 games, I found the Sims 2 very enjoyable. It is somewhat more complex, but adds a lot (Sims now grow up through various life stages and can have children who also grow up, not forever stuck at age 8 or so).

The Sims 2 isn't a game to play if you're very goal-oriented, but it is a lot of fun to watch and let things unfold.

What a great game!

This game really is a lot of fun! I had the original Sims game with most of the expansion packs, but I only played it a few times. I got bored with it. But this one is totally addicting! The graphics are great! It's fun to see how much the kids look like their parents. (The toddlers are adorable!) And there are so many things for them to do.

My opinion of this game is that even if you didn't ever play the original Sims game, this one is definitely worth getting!
