STAY AWAY!! STAY FAR , FAR AWAY!!

This game would be awesome IF IT WORKED!!! I would probably give the game 5 stars IF it did. I got the game as a gift and like alot(thousands)of other people I am extremly dissapointed with this game..I mean BUG! My PC exceeds the recommended requirements and it crashed everytime. It WILL crash anywhere from 30 seconds to 60 minutes into the game. It will sometimes crash Windows entirely(I have XP!)I've tried every video driver out there to no avail. Maxis says they're aware of the problem that "some" people are having and are supposedly working on a patch. I'd bet the farm EVERYONE is having a problem. HEY MAXIS, HOW ABOUT THIS FOR A CONCEPT, TRY TESTING YOUR STUFF BEFORE RELEASE!! NO ONE WANTS A BUG FOR A GAME! I'm glad I didn't spend my hard earned cash on this trash.

The game of Life...?

I gave 3 stars... not 4.

3rd install and I have had no real problems since. I used my cd drive the first 2 times to install with errors. The 3rd time I used my DVD drive. I bought the several CD version.

I really find myself wondering what the point of the game is. In real life the game objective is up to you, but this is someone else's creation and I have trouble trying to trigger what they wanted me to trigger.

My objective is to not have to work in real life, and play with what little spare time I have. If you do this in the game, you will get bored with it so quick. In fact, if you don't have a stinking in game job then you miss out on 40% of what may be considered the fun factor of this game.

Another 40% of the fun factor comes from sim interaction.

The last 20% of any fun factor comes from making your sim do menial tasks. And when I say menial, I don't mean delivering an item or relaying information, I mean constant: bathroom tasks; preparing food; eating food; bathing; sleeping; even social interactivity is a requirement for survival and smooth gameplay. And don't forget sleeping takes up 9-14 hours a day.

The game has 3 speeds: Normal, Fast, and "Ultra Fast". During Normal speed the characters move at human speeds, but time passes one minute for every real time second.
Fast speed is something like double time, but even on a super fast pc this is no faster than Normal speed if there is too much for your pc to calculate, such as 4+ mirrors on the entire board.
The same goes for Ultra Fast speed. Only this is about 3x the speed of normal. When your sims go to sleep this is set automatically, but can be down set. But when they go to work, you are stuck waiting through 5 real time minutes of watching the day/night go by waiting for nothing to happen except for your sim to come home.

Sometimes while your sim is on the job you will get a question to answer similar to "what if...". If your sim's logic is not very high, you will get your this/that question wrong no matter how probably it is. Only my Taurus was able to guess an answer correct. The rest of them either get fired or lose money fixing balogney mistakes. I now find that if I take the daring answer and go in guns blazing, then my sim's won't get fired but with mess up worse. But when I take precautionary measures of safety, the sim gets fired on the spot and wants to sincerely die from moping around afterwards.

I made an infamous political character to court one of three OZ wicked witchs I made, and mainly just to ruin his life, but not let him die. He answered a political job question wrong and was fired on the spot. The questions really twist the logic of the situation and they may as well not make you answer the yes/no style question because either choice will get you the same overall result.

This game is up to the player to figure out how the game is going to be fun. Lots of people just play "House". Others play "Serial Killer" by locking townies in basements and starving these unintelligent sims who wouldn't eat food if you stuck it right into their hand. And others may actually get what the game is about. Me, I don't understand why I make these sims do what I should be doing... bathroom, eat, telephone, go shopping, "play computer games"...

No matter what, your character is a "home body". You can leave your home to go anywhere in the neighborhood, but you need a taxi to even go next door! It takes forever just to load to the neighborhood scene so you can then select a residential/commercial lot to then load forever to.

The game is awesome in features, but even on alien fast machines this can be such a slow down. They need to have choices to enable flat 2D pictures of streets and houses so you can quickly select where you want to go and start playing again, and later be able to update the snap shot picture to be current. Just take that statement and relay it to every part of the game and you will have what I wish this game also had... speed.

Overall, this game is lacking quite a few expansion packs... I can't wait to start buying each one separetly as if it costed the same as a seperate game so I can play them all at once and not realize that I just spent over $500 bucks to play one game that makes me wish I was playing a game.
---
I have to say that creating sims with the BodyShop is fun, and will hold the sim as a cookie cutter. But if you make it in game, the sim is unique since you will never be able to make that exact same sim again.

Making houses is fun, and you can quickly edit the house even while a sim is living there! (While playing that sim.)

Some in game cheats are necessary for me to have fun... "motherlode" gives 50k. With this you can then buy the furnishings to make your sims not have to sleep and bathroom so long.

There are a lot of untold scoring charts that enable more skill. Even my full skill (10) cooking sims burnt pancakes after studying till cooking expert. He still needed to have experience. After my sim prepared 2-3 food items for the first time, he was then able to make a lobster dinner. He still nearly killed himself in the fire he caused from the 2nd dish he made chili-concarne. I had to convince him to extinguish the flames, since I place my sim's stoves outside due to all the fires and forgot about a smoke alarm. It wasn't burnt food though! I have noticed though, that with lots of practice preparing food, the sim's food lasts a lot longer than non-practiced food.

Sometimes you can do weird things... I made a witch I created lick a dirty plate clean instead of cleaning it. I gave it to the private school director guy to eat on.

Using the "moveobjects on" cheat, I have taken the Grim Reaper's death cell phone, his clip board, and his scythe. But alas... these objects just sit there, since no one knows what to do with it. I also took a thinking cap off my chick's head, and her hair came with it. Then I put it in her hand to make her put it on, cause I was having problems, and she lost it to her pocket or something cause it disappeared when I started time again.

The cleaning lady must have stolen an expensive aspiration point item cause after she showed up, my hard earned skill sucker was missing. I had to put her into the naughty townie room with no doors, stuck in the corner of the lot, surrounded by high rising dirt. Since I couldn't determine if the gardener had done it though, I put the gardener in the maids hand to see where the maid would place the gardener, it was an instant pocketed townie when time started. I could have just deleted her, but this way her van disappeared too, for some reason. So I have to believe the french maid was stealing stuff and now must be eliminated. Although I don't want my sim to commit murder, nor do I think it is capable, so I have to do it for her. This way she will see that ghost she has been asking so long to see... Its just that when the townie Benjamin came walking by, it inspired me to use the skill sucker on him, but it was missing and I was really upset over it... ok, so I'm crazy

Another sim I made wants to defeat the Grim Reaper... I don't know how that is possible, but he is keeping that goal! (He is a crazy popularity sim, named Harry the Wolfman.)

Another of my sims I kept making "poke" fights with the townie Benjamin, and he got the aspiration to see the ghost of Benjamin. All that fighting made each of them cry a lot, but I want to make this sim murder Benjamin, but I highly doubt this moral distaste is allowed in this game which would inspire one to aspire the death of a fellow electro-byte.

One last thing... townie's don't age unless they stop being a townie.

===========Play Time Calculations for one sim day==========
9 hours of work = no less than 3 minutes of real time waiting.
10 hours of sleep = no less than 3.33 minutes of RT wait
1 hour time spent walking to carpool and bed = another .33 minutes
4 hours of sim time slowed down to maximum "Normal" play time is still only 4 minutes.
= Total this 24 hours simulation time into real time equals 11 minutes. That means that while the game clock is ticking... for every 11 minutes you play, you will play for 4 minutes.
---------Whats worse than playing for 4/11 minutes?-----
Up keep time? You must push your sim to go to the bathroom and prepare food and eat and bathe... and then some of the stuff they have to do also takes care of these next few needs of fun and social. And then easiest is the environment which counts dirty objects in the room you are in. Either spend their precious moments cleaning up, or use the moveobjects on cheat to move the junk into a separate room that the sim can wait for the maid to try to clean.

So depending on what you do... your 4 hours (minutes) of play time can be spent either: 4hours studying/learning; 3 hours working out; 2 hours waiting for a pizza and carrying the thing in (you could tip... but by the time you get that auto pizza out of your hand, the pizza guy is gone); 1 hour to call and invite a sim over and greet them before they leave, and interact with them for 2-3 hours/minutes...

FYI - If your sim wants to chat (interact) with a sim that is on the (couch, hottub, table, chair) the other sim must: stop; standup; walk to you; start interacting. I am serious of these steps. Your sim can not just start talking to a sim in the hot tub. They have to talk while out of the hot tub. Their limitations become seriously out of proportion when the sim is not just standing there. While in the hot tub with a seeminly fully best friended significant other, your sim can interact 6 ways, and talking is not one of them. While standing next to the same sim you could interact with them over 20 ways, even having more as an option... Sitting at the table eating dinner the sim will have to decide to chat with another, cause you can not control this. Its like sim auto-pilot... phones and a high percentage of some types of chatting.

I can't wait!

First of all, you guys in America are complaining the game comes out in August, well, here in England it doesn't come out until October! (sigh)Count yourselves lucky!

The original Sims is so much fun, and this looks even better!
Here are some new features:

Create-a-sim

When you create your sims you will be able to chose eyes and their colour, hair syle and it's colour, make up, and with the nose, cheeks and lips you can stretch them, make them thinner or fatter, wider, etc

.Your sims can age- baby/toddler/child/teen/adult/grandparent/death (you can turn the aging off)

.Sims have weekends

.Your sims will have a diary and they record special moments like their first kiss etc

.Teens, adults, and grandparents can get jobs

.Your sims will have DNA so they look like their parents

.You can have three stories to a house (not 4, that's are rumour)

.Houses can be built on hills

.Doors and windows can be placed diagonally

.There are tons more interactions! Like a 'Grandma hug' which a kid will give it's granny.

.The Sims 2 is totally 3D.

.You can zoom in very close and turn the camera round at ease (not 3 zooming in and 4 rotations)

.Sims are more life like eg they have facial expressions and fingers.

.Sims hair will swing when they walk and they will act appropriatly around different people.

.You will be able to tell if a sim is shy or lazy etc by their body language. For example, a shy sim might rub their arm or look down.

These are only a fraction of the improvements on The Sims 2, to find out more go on to www.thesims2.ea.com or www.the-sims-2.com

There you will find screenshots, videos and news about The Sims 2!

Also if you want to see some pics of creating a sim then go onto http://www.itavisen.no/art/1301209.html (it's in a different language but their are some good pictures)

Thanks peeps!

Somebody below posted this as their review: "I am one of the first people to actually play the Sims 2! I am 12 years old and they wanted a kid tester so of course I said Yeah. The only thing is they made my sign a form saying that I wouldn't tell anyone what was in the expansion pack, or I get sued :("

Ok, you have not tested The Sims 2 and even if you did, they wouldn't have made you sign a form to say you won't tell anyone about what is in the game. Also, it isn't an expansion pack.

I have, though, played The Sims 2 at the Sims 2 University that was held at EA in San Francisco. My site is called SimSational and if you look on the Sims 2 website it lists us to say that we attended the event.

We didn't get asked to sign a form and say we won't say anything about it what so ever... anyway, I played the game for about an hour and a half and from what I saw it was absolutely mind-blowing. I got to fiddle around with the Create-a-Sim and some of the other webmasters (including KillerSims and The Sims Resource) actually managed to re-create their faces on a Sim. I couldn't work it out though lol.

I built a house and everything, it took a while to get used to but once you do get used to it, you can build these amazing looking masterpieces. You could make a tudor-styled house or a modern suberbian house. You can now have 3 floors and have another floor in the roof (no basements unfortunatly).

I personally can't wait to get the game for myself and play it for longer than an hour and a half! I give this game 5 stars (of course!).

Very disappointed in this sequel

I was very disappointed in this sequel. It has some nice features, but they're not worth the trade-off. There are not enough objects. Nothing fun, nothing cool. I unintalled Sims 2 and reinstalled the original Sims and all its expansion packs. Now I'm having fun again. Sims 2 was a big hype and a waste of money.

They don't tell you in the system requirements that your graphics adapter has to be DirectX 9.0c compatable. Older computers cannot support this software.

Starting Over

I just think that if they're going to ask us to "start over" with a whole new, stand alone game, they should give us absolutely EVERYTHING we already had up to that point. But they don't. They don't even promise to provide it anytime soon.

The objects are just awful. No cool furniture, fabrics, accessories. Nothing. And nothing coming soon.

When you complain, they say that these things will come with the expansions. And they say you shouldn't expect to get them for free. Free? We already paid for them once, BIGTIME!

So I agree with a handful of others who say they should have given us all the objects, etc., with the new game. Then, with the expansions, they should have concentrated on totally new and different stuff. But that didn't happen, and there is no logical explanation.

There is nothing of too much interest to do in Sims 2 except watch the interaction among people. I miss the expansions. And I realize the expansions will come, in time, but some should have been included.

I think it's a big rip-off. I'd give it a zero if I could, but 1 is the first number available.

Disapointed

When i first heard that the sims 2 was coming out i was exited. I ran to the store the day it came out and purchased it. As soon as i arrived home i downloaded it onto my computer and from what i could see it was looking good.. I finally get the game to go on and it takes forever!! Making a family, Creating a house.. all of these features take forever..i found myself getting mad at the fact that it took about and hour to switch characters in the game.. The fact that mad me mad was that i just purchased a new computer so that couldn't be the problem..so it looks like i have to purchase a alienware desktop to finally enjoy this game the way it was meant to be played.. Simply put the system requirements in my opinion are ridiculous! and i am left with a 50 dollar game in my hands that i cant play until i purchase a 2,000 dollar computer.
