A Sim's Best Friend

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 13 / 13

What could be cuter than a Sim dog or Sim cat? This by far has to be the best out of the expansion packs for The Sims.

Not only can your Sim have a cute furry animal friend, they have 50 new jobs in five new career tracks and they can grow a vegetable garden.

The Old Town development is nice, and it is free for your Sim to go there. Sims can go there to socialize with other Sims in the neighborhood, to buy a pet, or sell your vegetables. The Expansion on the neighborhood is great, now there is more space for creative expression.

I like this expansion pack the most but there are a few things that are annoying at best. I like the dog and cat skins, but there are not enough. Training the pet is time consuming. I recommend if you have a Sim buy a cat or dog, only buy one at a time. There are strays that a Sim can befriend and adopt. Yet like having the Sims develop friendships with other Sims, this becomes a hassle for the career-minded Sim. The Vegetable garden is good...you won't have your Sim spending their salary on food and they can make a few extra bucks selling the veggies. Down side: Like with any real garden, you have your garden pests... growing carrots forget it(unless you trained your Sim cat to be a ruthless bloodthirsty hunter). Tip: Grow beans and tomatoes, they don't have to be replanted once they are harvested.

I made the mistake of purchasing this expansion pack before the others(Hot Date, House Party, and Vacation). Now I didn't know I made this mistake, until after playing with Unleashed for about a week then I decided to buy the Hot Date expansion pack.
That is when I found out that I had to install the games in order of their release. So I had to uninstall Unleashed as well as Deluxe Edition, then reinstall and installing the older expansion pack before Unleashed. I'm not a computer whiz, so it took me a couple of hours and rereading the installion instructions before I got the game to work again.

This expansion pack is a must for the Sims, having the pets adds a new dimension to the Sims everyday life. You don't have as much control over a Sim dog or cat like you do with the Sim people. The dogs and cats are run by free will, although you can tell them where to go but you cannot give them actions. Unless your Sim person is petting them or trying to train them. It is amusing to see the pets interact with one another, and hiss or growl at their owner.

The latest and greatest Sims expansion!

Sims fans everywhere celebrate the announcement of a new, highly-anticipated expansion for the award winning game: The Sims Unleashed! One of the original requests was pets, and they have finally arrived. You will be able to chose from a variety of pets, including cats, dogs, and fish. You will have to purchase toys and food for them, and take care of them. If you don't, you will be sorry: they can destroy your flowerbeds, drink out of your toliets, and ruin a new aspect of the game: gardens! You can go to one of the new community lots and purchase seeds for a new garden, which you have to care for in several ways. You will be able to harvest it and eat the seeds from yet another new feature of the game, the pantry.

Another request from the fans that has been around almost as long as the game has is a spiral staircase, which will be included in this expansion.

Another great feature of this EP is the addition of five new career tracks. Your Sim can become a cook, join the fashion industry, become a teacher, run away and join the circus, or become a veternarian.

This game will certainly be as great as the earlier expansions. There is absolutely no reason to not get this game so order it today!!

Get This Game, and never see your real family again.

In my opinion, this is the best expansion pack yet (I have all 5). Although I have read some complaints here about running this game on Win 98, I haven't had ANY problems running it on 98. If your computer is a mess, no game will run well... I would advise some folks to clean up their computers, including defragging, before blaming their computer problems on this game.
The addition of community lots to the game is really neat ... a great deal of complexity has been added with this expansion pack, especially for longtime players. Some of my oldest families had run out of new things to do, but raising pets is very challenging, and forces the player to really focus on the game. The gardening aspect is fun too, as is training your pets to help with various household activities. Hours of fun.

I really recommend the The Sims Unleashed Expansion Pack. It is a great expansion pack.

In front of you a list of new features that comes with
The Sims Unleashed Expansion Pack:

1. Every neighborhood gets bigger and can have public zones like malls, pet stores, restaurants...

2. Buy animals from pet shops in the new "town" like: Gold fish, cats, dogs, turtle, iguana, parrot and more...
You can select the cat's and dog's color, name and gender.

3. 125+ new objects including pet stuff.

4. Play with your pet and increase he's skills (hunting, trick and obedience)

I really recommend this game.

I just recently starting playing The Sims (the Deluxe Edition), and after a few days, decided I needed to try an expansion pack or two. I had a hard time choosing between Hot Date, Vacation, and House Party, so I decided I would just get Unleashed because, after playing the Deluxe Edition, my first thought was, "What this game needs is some pets". Well, here they are! Unleashed and ready to pee on your lawn! The pets are great (although I haven't gotten one yet - I can barely control both my Sims as it is), but little Cher Stray has taken a liking to my house, and she's awfully cute. But besides the animals, there are over 125 more new items, mostly items for your pets but not all of them. And there is a bigger neighborhood, with newer, better houses and more of them. So now I have moved in all of my real-life friends into their own houses so that we can all become friends in the game. Plus, there are new characters, new jobs, new outfits and enough stuff to do in the Old Town. All in all, if you like the Sims at all, you must get this expansion pack in particular. It's so big, it need 2 CDs to install, and while yes, it does make the loading time at the beginning of the game much longer, it's all worth it. Buy this today!

Bravo!

Hold up, here comes the SIMS unleashed! SIM-aholics all over will love the depth it adds to an already addictive game! Know that weird old bird lady down the street, the one with all the "birds"? No? Well, now you can create one in your game! Your SIMS will be able to interact with pets to gain things like charisma or up their relationship rating, and you can even buy fun things for your pets. Unfortunately, you can't take the pets downtown, but, on the up side, you've got plenty of opportunity to socialize with the neighborhood extension they've done. Also, your pets, as they're part of the family, get to go on vacation with you. What better way to soak up the sun than with a cool kitty cat at your side? Things just get better and better! Bravo!

Unleashed is, by far, the best expansion.

OBJECTS
Here's the rundown on some of the new objects:

* New skins
* New NPCs
* New floors and walls
* One new sofa (looks velvety)
* New garden-type furniture (table, chairs and bench)
* As far as tables and counters, just a few new ones
* A couple of new pictures
* New decorations such as the Geranium Flower Stand (very nice) and Neptune's Sorrow Iron Fountain
* The only thing new as far as appliances would be the two pantries where you can store the crops you harvest. The pantry basically functions as a refrigerator if you have enough crops.
* There's a new bathtub/shower combo and a toilet stall.
* There are a couple of new light fixtures, one being the "No Rustle" Ceiling Fan.

PET OBJECTS
The core of this game is, obviously, about the pets. So mainly, the new objects are for your pets. They are:

* Classic Goldfish Bowl
* Pet PlaCater (food bowl for dogs and cats)
* Scratcheriffic Scratching Post
* Love in a Cage (Birdcage for small birds)
* Dura-Bean Pet Bed (Fleece-looking pet bed)
* Timid Turtle Action Playset
* Annapurna Pet Feeder (fancier food bowls for dogs and cats)
* Dunginator 9000 (nice-looking kitty litter box)
* Happy Paws Cuddle Sack (Another dog/cat bed)
* Critter Condo (red doghouse)
* Shag Spyer (big playset for cats - cats can also sleep in it)
* Persian Plush Pet Bed (very royal-looking pet bed)
* Squeak-EE-Clean Pet Tub (got to wash and dry those dogs!)
* Pad Prolifique (Roman-looking doghouse)
* Crake's Cabinet (for those awards your pet will win at the pet shows - my dog brought home the "booby prize" because he bit the judge!)
* Mr. Beau - A cockatoo and one of the two pets you can purchase in "Buy Mode" - as opposed to going to the pet adoption center)
* Forgotten Jungle Terrarium - A house for your iguanas
* Speaky Scarlet - A macaw and the other bird you can purchase in buy mode
* Feline Funinator - Another cat play system
* The Aviary - a huge bird cage for lots of birds

Game play is wonderful. A lot of people are saying their game loads faster now and the same goes for me.

PETS
There are 12 types of cats and 12 types of dogs you can get. You can play fetch, hug, pet, teach them tricks.

You can teach them to sit & stay, jump, etc. I've heard that the pets can jump up on the sofas and beds, but mine haven't yet.

It is hilarious to watch what they go off and do on their own. You can't control them like you can your other Sims. One of my Sims tried to call her new dog. The dog walked the other way.

You can also teach your pets to greet your Sim when they come home from work. The dog or cat will come running to the edge of the sidewalk where your Sim has just gotten out of the car and the Sim will reach down and pet the dog or cat.

My dog was unhappy because my Sim wasn't playing with him so he dug up the garden! Then my Sim tried to pet him and got bitten. The dog also fought a raccoon and chased him away.

A skunk sprayed my dog but the skunk wouldn't leave. So a notice popped up saying my Sim could call Animal Control and for 20 simoleons, they would come and take the skunk away.

Pets go with you to Old Town and on Vacation but they don't go downtown. When they do go with you, they'll find other pets to play with, they'll go to sleep or they'll simply explore.

One thing I've noticed (that's a bit of a pain) is that when your Sim is at home, there can be a lot of strays on your lot. I've even had stray cats and dogs come in the house. Your Sim can "Shoo" the dog or cat but I've also noticed some of these dogs digging holes in my Sim's yard.

STUFF FOR YOUR PETS
Besides the objects you can purchase in "Buy Mode," you can go to Old Town and purchase treats, collars and toys. The toys part is a little deceiving, though. You give the toys to the dog or cat and then they disappear (just like when you give one Sim a gift). So it's not like your dog is going to run around the house with his squeaky toy.

The cool part about the collars is that you can buy all sorts of different colors of collars (even a spiked collar). When you're ready to give it to your cat or dog, you actually put the collar on them and it stays there on your pet!

NEIGHBORHOOD
The new neighborhood screen is unbelievable. You now have 40 lots to play with instead of 10 from the main screen. You can also zone these as community or residence so if you'd rather have a house where a community lot is, just rezone. This is also a good way to combine your Sims from other neighbordhoods into just one.

Maxis included a lot of pre-made lots. So if you're not one that likes to build new lots, you'll have plenty of lots to play with.

CAREERS
You also have five new careers to play with. They are:

Fashion
You start off as a department store clerk

Education
You start off as a playground monitor

Animal Care
You start off as a dog walker

Culinary

You start off as a dishwasher

Circus
You start off as a popcorn vendor

GARDENING
You can purchase seeds or vegetables in Old Town. Go home and plant the seeds (green beans, lettuce, tomatoes or carrots).

A bunny keeps eating my carrots. Keep an eye on your crops because you need to weed, water and harvest your crops.

GENERAL
The new interactions and animations are what make this game a must-have. Everything from the palm reader to the dogs that chase the paper girl.

Unfortunately, this review only scratches the surface of Unleashed. There's too much to tell and not enough space!

The Best Sims Expansion Pack

PETS
Oh, sure, you can get fish or a guini pig without Unleashed, but if you want a more interesting pet, you should get this expansion. Unleashed gives you dogs, cats, birds, turtles and iguanas. There are many different breeds of dogs and cats, and a few different types of birds.
Dogs and cats become part of the family, and get the run of the house (even though they shouldn't be able to open your doors). A canine or feline pet can give lonely Sims more social time, and prevent the less outgoing Sims from getting depressed. Unfortunatly, you can't make the dog/cat eat, sleep, or play on command, and you can't stop it from drinking out of the toilet or relieving themselves on your carpet.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
With the Unleashed expansion, you now have a total of 41 lots! You also have the cool option of making a community lot. You can build restaurants, markets, pet shops, and other places for your Sims to socialize. What's really cool is that you don't have a budget to worry about!
Another nice addition is that now you can build a house before your Sim moves into it. Half the fun in The Sims is just building the houses!

OTHER BONUSES
Now your Sims can live off their own land by tending a garden. After you harvest, choose to put your vegetables in a pantry for later or sell them at the market.

Unleashed is a great addition to The Sims. Anyone who enjoys The Sims should definately pick this one up.

EXCITING GAME!!!!

I bought this game at best buy a few days ago. I was thrilled when I got it, and despite what others say, the download didn't take long. Now here are my pro's/con's on the game:

Pro's:

- pets!!!
-bigger neighboorhoods
-gardens
-can create shops
-visiting old town
-variety of pets

Con's:

-crashes a lot
-can't control pets
-if the pet wants to do something, you can't stop it
-mood bars go down quick in old town
-can get boring
-pets lose obidenence points for no reason
-pets are hard to train
-all people/pets must go to old town with you
-stray pets

So there it is. I will start with the pro's. There's only 1 thing to say...... PETS!!!!!! Not just dogs and cats but birds, fish, igunas and turtles are just a few. If you do choose a dog/cat you can choose its sex and name. You can train them and play with them. Then there are the neighboorhoods. They are HUGE! Enough room for at least 20 houses and 20 shops. And there's 7 of them!! Gardens.. what is there to say about gardens... well there isn't too much. Maybe its cause I haven't tried em, but all you do is weed em, harvest them and train your cats to kill the rabbits and gophers that try to eat your produce. Also once your sims have planted the seeds, they are practically dead. Doesn't sound too great huh? Well, there is one good point about it. You don't have to pay for your food! Just eat your produce. That is a real advantage if your running low on cash. Also theres that feeling of pride that you can eat something you had to grow!!!! I know your getting sick of this, but bear with me for a few more pro's and a lot of con's. Anyways, creating shops. I really like doing it. You have unlimited money, so you don't have to do the whole "rosebud ;:" thing. You can make the shops have pets, food and anything you can think of!!!! Just remember the cash registers! Now old town. There isn't just ONE old town but MULTIPLE! You can also create some. Basically, you have one of your sims call the old town trolley. It'll come and pick you up then deliver you at the old town of your choosing. There your sims can explore, buy pets and do whatever they want. Just pick up the phone and call the trolley to take you to another old town or back to your humble home. Now last but not least for pro's is the large variety of pets. Theres all kinds for cats and dogs.. as ell as several for birds and such.

Now the con's. First, the crashing. I have a new XP, not even a year old. Yet sometimes, it will just quit and take me back to my desktop without saving. So save all the time. Now the pet's. You can't control em except for "Go here". So if they want to pee on the floor, you can't stop it. Once my cat was asleep when we were waiting for her to get in the trolley, she kept sleeping. I find this annoying. Old town. It's a good add on, but your mood bars go down fast in old town. And it's annoying cuase they can't nap in old town so their energy will just drain and drain and..zzzzz.... I find it get's boring but that's just me so I will skip this one. My cat loses obidence points for no reason. I will spend a lot of time training her only to lose her well earned obidence point a few seconds later. They are also hard to train. They will do the command for a few seconds, then go do something else. It gets frustrating a lot. Now old town... when you wanna go there, ALL members of your familty, including pets must go. That means if a member is at work or school, you must wait for them to come home before you go. And last but not least.. stray pets!!! Some local neighboorhood pets may ocasionally stop by from time to time for a visit. That means, peeing on your lawn, in your house. They also eat your pets food which you have to refill frequently.

I hope this helped you. Please egnor the spelling errors. have fun playing sims unleashed!
