As a fighting game connoisseur...

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 1 / 5

...I have to give this game two stars. I think that it is nice that the graphics are awesome, but there is absolutely no gameplay here. The controls are awkward, and the movements are not very realistic. There are so many fighting games that are so much more fun to play simply because of the great fighting engines they run on. It is true that DOA3 blows Tekken Tag out of the water in terms of graphics, but TT is a superior game in all other aspects.

Having said all those mean things, lets get to the better points. If you like your fighting games fast and not too complex, then this one is for you. It is primarily meant for multiple players, hence the story mode is weak, and becomes boring after a while. The graphics are honestly astounding, and the arenas are detailed and fun to fight in.

In the end, I don't like this game. I would rather watch a really bad kung fu movie complete with ridiculous techniques, then play this game, with ridiculous gameplay.

Failed potential

We'll ignore for the moment that I don't particularly enjoy fighting games. The graphics and backgrounds were beautiful, and the game managed to keep me entertained for four or five hours before it went back on the shelf to never see the light of day again.

First of all, all of the maneuvers and combinations were just too much. The game would have been made much more playable if there had been a real training area. What it had was a guy who would stand there and let you hit him as you tried to reproduce the sometimes rediculous button combinations posted on the screen. It would have been great if there had been a martial arts master to instruct you and fight against you as he taught you the moves.

Second is the story, or lack there-of. Dead or Alive 3 tries to present itself as a story, even having a few exchanges between the characetrs as you move through it, but you'd have to already know the story for it to make any sense. All you do is beat up the opponents, listen to a couple snips of dialog, and fight the end of level villain at the end. It has about as much story as Gotham Racing.

As beating people up was a matter of perfecting two or three maneuvers for each character, the fighting quickly became passe. The story wasn't. All in all the beautiful graphics were wasted in a game that had nothing going for it. DoD Extreme Beach Volleyball has more plot then this game.

A Little Dissapointing

All this version of DOA is DOA2 with a couple new characters
and new backgrounds. It plays the same. Nothing innovative
in this game. Plus the boss in this game (is bad)! X-BOX WILL
BE ANOTHER HERE TODAY,GONE TOMORROW CONSOLE! (DREAMCAST,3DO,ETC.)

Xbox should have let Gamecube take the third DEAD OR Alive!

Well this review is short first of all if you got no friends then do not buy this game but if you do then buy cause the multiplayer is what makes you come back for more the graphics are alright and everythings plays good but for me its those games when you play when your friends come and that is why I give it a 5 for fun but overall 4 cause even when my friends come we play this for 30 minutes then get bored!

Verdict: 4.0 out of 5.0 Just buy it for a party game

Great game. I come home from a tough day at work, turn on the training mode, and beat the heck out of an opponent until I feel better. It works every time.

The fighting is fun but it gets old after a while (this could be said about many fighting games) I prefer Tekken.
