This review will save you Fifty Dollars

I have never been so unchallenged by a video game in my life, and since I am no video game pro, that is saying a lot.

I bought the game on Friday, the day it came out, and beat it today, Wednesday. It took me about five hours spread over 3 playing sessions to beat it.

There has been a lot of hype over how realistic the Pearl Harbor scene is in Rising Sun, and unfortunately it was undeserved. Instead of the breathtaking gunfight the ads promise, you basically flee to the deck of the sinking ship and then fire blindly at enemy planes with a rifle. Then you get on a gunboat and fire blindly at some more enemy planes. End of level. They could have done so much more with this Pearl Harbor scene.

After the somewhat unique first level, the game retreats to what is practically a clone of MOH Frontline, except you are shooting Japanese instead of Germans. Rising Sun is identical to Frontline on even the most basic levels. For example, there is a bell tower in Frontline you must go up in, and, guess what, there is one you must ascend in Rising Sun too! As far as weapons go, you get the same sniper rifle and assorted machine guns. Allegedly, there is also a bazooka available, but in the only level in which I found the bazooka missiles, the bazooka itself was nowhere to be found, so I never got to use it before beating the game.

The ending of the game, as other reviewers have pointed out, is the biggest sham I have ever seen in a video game. You make your way through an aircraft carrier, get into a plane, and blow up the aircraft carrier once you have taken off. Even the ending is a clone of Frontline: for those of you who have played it, Frontline ends with you taking off in a plane.

To say I was shocked when the game credits started rolling after I blew up the aircraft carrier would be an understatement. I thought I had at least a few more levels left, if, for no other reason, because I had not yet used the bazooka. Not to mention that the ending to the game was simply anti-climactic.

The people at Electronic Arts must have been behind schedule on the development of the game, and, determined to release it in time for Christmas, resigned themselves to releasing a sub-par product and propping it up with extensive marketing.

This is the most horrible WW2 game I have played yet. I have played much better games such as Brothers In Arms. Its a total waste of money. The only good thing about is coop and Multiplayer bots. Trust me it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

lesson to all: over-hyped + over-marketed = mediocrity

"You don't play, you volunteer"... to pay 50 bux of your hard-earned money to play another example of over-hyped, over-marketed, mediocrity. Sure, 1 star may be harsh, but deserved. The buildup to this game made my mouth water. There is nothing special about this game. Sure, it looks pretty. You get to rewrite history and shoot down 100 zeroes over pearl harbor. The rest of the levels are just the same old tired FPS fare, with the "sneaky level" that you can just blast through anyway. You get to ride an elephant for all of 39 seconds, stuck to a machinegun. There is no innovation here. You unlock storyboards, which only show you how far they missed the mark from what they intended to produce. I finished this game, and thought, what? that's it? The bigger the buildup, the bigger the letdown. Oh, and to get the "honor" of playing that last secret level, just volunteer a few weeks locked in your room to get enough medals. I feel swindled. I'm going to try to get my money back.

This game, is without a doubt the WORST game I have played in the past two years or so. First of all, it's incredibly short. It took me about 5 hours to beat it. Throughout the game, if you don't look for large amounts of time for the different guns, you get to use about nine of them. Every single level is completely linear. In almost every one of the levels, you follow the path that is forced on you. I can only take one path to your objective. Even in the jungle mission, you are only allowed to walk down a VERY narrow path. Probably one of the most irritating things about this game is the jumping. You cannot even jump over the lowest boxes, or branches, or whatever. One other incredibly annoying factor, is the fact that if there is a desk with two chairs sticking out of it at either side, you cannot go in between them.

Overall, this game deserves a 22/100

DO NOT BUY IT !!!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME !!!

ALL OF THE BAD REVIEWS DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO EXPLAINING HOW BAD THIS GAME IS - IT IS HORRIBLE

This game is much, much worse than I thought any game could be. I played better FPS-es on N64. Graphics are pathetic, game is buggy, story is linear, backgrounds are recycled, etc... The best part of the game by far is the packaging. I think the box is made out of really nice and shiny plastic, and I think it has the EA holographic sticker. I guess that is why they charge so much for it.

Besides that, this is the worse game I have played in many years, and I have both XBOX and PS2. I don't remember PS One games being this bad - at least what they didn't have in graphics they compensated with great story lines and reliable software, e.g., GoldenEye. This game has absolutely no redeeming qualities what so ever. At least they could have recycled the old MOH game and port it to the pacific. Instead they came out with a video game equivalent of the movie Gigli. On the other hand if you like BenLo then you probably wouldn't be reading this anyway...

I hope you are not reading this too late - as I read other reviews too late. Trust me on this one and DO NOT BUY THIS GAME !!!

I wasted 50 bux - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

A Terrible Game- worst ever

This game would take about about an hour to play if the controls and weapons were at all responsive. Some of the environments look pretty, put the enemy fighters are straight out of a windows 95 first person shooter.
People complain about suppossed racism in the GTA series, but our group of racially mixed gamers found the asian enemies in Rising Sun to be offensive stereotypes beyond anything in Vice City. Unlike Vice City, which is violent with an obvious tongue in cheek sarcasm, this game wraps it's racial violence with themes of patriotism, making Rising Sun truly disturbing.

Sucks...

I played it in about 5 hours and the ending felt cut off.. it's like suddenly the game is over. I know it's supposed to leave me wanting more.. but all it made me want was the original.

Don't waste your money.. just play the original over again!!!

This game blows

I totally and completely agree with every negative comment here.

I actually liked the game right up to the point where it abruptly ends. I was left with a WTF feeling! I mean seriously, ending it out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (and not even on an island)?!!! I mean come on did EA fire the guys from Frontline and start over? I wouldn't even recommend renting this game, more like borrow it from a friend maybe.

If there is a Rising Sun 2 coming down the pike they should give a trade-in credit (1 for 1) for everyone who got stuck with this lemon!
