BEST Fighting Game Period !

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5

I've been a fan of the mortal kombat series ever since it first came out in 1992. The other fighting games on the market are just too "cute" for me, but MK is bloody & violent, exactly the way I want my fighting game to be. Thanks for not folding to the pressure Midway, the blood content is sweet!! (a welcome addition to a true fighter) Thank God for Fatalities :)
I wouldn't suggest this game for anyone under 17, but for everyone else this one is so much fun to play. During a fight you can switch to any of 3 differnt fighting styles including weapons! There are many fighters, alternate costumes, and game arenas that you can unlock as you fight, win, and gain Koins. I was most impressed with the way the fighters move so fluidly and the colorful fight arenas are beautiful eye candy. The game is also loaded with things like a video on MK History, a music video, sketch art, etc. Thanks again to the people behind this game, so glad they took their time making this one. It is a true gem and definitely the best MK game to date, keep up the great work Midway! If you want a dark, violent fight game, give this one a chance, I love it!!

Great Game

This game is awesome, fully worth the price. It lives up to the legend of the original Mortal Combat. This has all the great gameplay of the original, coupled with graphics that rival DOA3. If you are able to buy this game do so, you won't regret it. The storyline is immersive and the finishing moves are a blast. My only regret is that it has no X box live support. Also check out Unreal Championship and DAO X-Treme Beach Volleyball.

fatality: one serously flawed kombat

for all of the great features included with deadly alliance, there are quite a few flaws that drag the game down to a truly sub-par level indeed.

the first of which would be the frustrating controls. neither analog sticks are allowed and you are confined to the use of the digital directional pad only. i've never been a large fan of the traditional digital directional pads on any console and the omission of analog stick support in 'deadly alliance' does no more than irritate me.

the second flaw would be in kombat model itself. on paper, kombat mode shows great promise... an adventure mode where you complete tasks on a quest, earning koins all the while to unlock extra features in the kyrpt. in theory, it sounds like one of the most inventive additions to the genre but the execution is as dissapointing as opening a gift from your distant aunt... that is, if the gift is 110% linear and repetitive. not to mention featuring horribly cheesy 'stories' before the 'battles' fit for a d- film.

on the positive side: it looks great and is much better than the last few kombat outings but on the end, falls flat.

to sum it up: there is almost certainty that i will be taking this game to a local store that will buy used games.

Excellent

I got this game yesterday and wow... very very addictive. So much to do. Midway made sure they will have people playing this game over and over again. So many features: a fighting game on steroids. The fighting styles are amazing and mastering them for one character will take days, now talk about others. Unlike MK4, I wasn't able to beat this game on the first try. If you're into fighting games, one on one combat, truly, this is the game for you.

Flawless Victory...almost

This is by far the best Mortal Kombat to hit the shelves since MK 2, and it is outstanding from character layout to background animation.
I've been hooked since the day I bought it, I've only noticed two flaws.
1, The fatalites, dont, get me wrong some of them are awsome (Hsu Hao's and Nitara's, SWEET) but some are really lame (Quan Chi's and Kitana's, good God.) Come on Midway Mk's popular for terror and gore not "cheese and goofiness.MK2 anyone?
2, Where are the pit fatalites??? I mean look at these backgrounds, Acid pool, Lava shrine, Dragonfly, etc.
Just think a ring-out straight into a pool of acid. YES!
Oh well great game anyway I'll see you for MK6.

Mortal Kombat - good, but could have been so much better

The Mortal Kombat series is a video game legend that should not be taken lightly.
Unfortunately, the XBox version of this game is good, but it could have been so much better.
And for a game legacy such as this, good just isn't enough to meet the expectations of fans.
This game keeps the fighting styles of the characters alive and expands upon them by giving each character three fighting styles.
Each character's fighting style has its own set of moves and combos, although the special moves remain for each style.
Despite the great amount of normal moves, each character has only a limited amount of special moves.
The controls using the digital pad are decent and quite fluid, but use of the analog stick is disabled.
Aside from that one minor setback, the game play controls are quite good and easy to get used to.
The graphics and sound for the game are top notch, however the characters look a bit odd in comparison to previous versions.
Now that I've stated the strong points to the game, I should begin listing the weak points.
The game's list of characters only comes down to 20-something characters, if all of the hidden ones are unlocked.
The Mortal Kombat series of games consisted of over 50 characters, many of which are absent in this release.
While the blood effects are quite nice, the lack numbers of Fatalities that each character can perform is limited.
Also, the variations to Fatalities (animality, babality, friendship, pit and other board based kills) are non-existent.
Despite the drawbacks, the game is still worth purchasing if you're into hand-to-hand combat action games.

Mortal Kombat with Plot!

Yeah, I know. Scary concept.

I got this baby in an attempt to make sense of Deception. And let me tell you, it is everything that Mortal Kombat: Deception is. Maybe a little more here and a little less there, but it is pretty equal in all resepcts.

Speaking of Deception, I've got to admit that this game made me like Deception's konquest mode a little more. Maybe because this game's konquest was a little annoying at times (although quite funny at others, and nessecary in the long run); maybe because, once I knew the plot of Deadly Alliance, I had some idea of what was going on in the other.

Deadly Alliance's fight-play has, in fact, a little, tiny bit more depth to it. This is because of the little black button, which allows you to, depending on your style of kung fu, grab an opponent, or regain some health (via taunting, how else?) or impale an enemy with your weapon. Depending on the weapon. A dissapointment comes from the fact that you have to use the d-pad to kontrol your character; other than that, it's cool. The graphics are crisp and clean, except when your opponent is covered in blood.

The extra features are a little less than Deception's, but that's "okay," since this wasn't supposed to be a grab-bag. And what extras are there are fun anyway, so, who's complaining?

As I said before, this made me appreciate konquest a little more. It's nice to know that there can be plot in a Mortal Kombat game (I found, by the way, the plot to be tight and focused, although I prefer Deception's plot). Basically, this Mortal Kombat is for anyone who doesn't know what's going on in Deception. No previous knowledge of Mortal Kombat is really nessecary, but it can't hurt to know who Scorpion and Sub-Zero are.

Disapointed

This game looked great. Three fighting styles, decent graphics, a few new characters, and a good combo system, but it's weaknesses made for an overall disapointing game.

I like a game that's not afraid to show some blood, but this is just silly. Blood flies constantly, pouring down the hemophiliac characters in drops almost as big as their fists. They bleed for EVERYTHING. Some parts of the game have you trying to get X pints of blood out of your enemy before time runs out.

Only one fatality per character and most are disappointing. No level based fatalities either. This is what made the Mortal Kombat series famous and they really dropped the ball here.

I know better than to expect the plotline in a fighting game to be coherant, but this is just bad, not as bad as DOA3's "story" mode, but bad anyway. If your way into this sort of thing I'd reccomend renting it first.

A butt Kicker extreme

If you played the MK series of games this is the best of them all. To put it simple a awsome butt kicker in any fighting game.

A great fighting game, but only a fighting game

I guess I'm getting a little old and burnt out on the fighting game genre. Don't get me wrong, Deadly Alliance is a great fighting game, the best I've ever played. It has intricate interesting characters, unbelievably cool combat moves, detailed backgrounds and good quality sound. There is some long-term playability in learning combos and special moves for your favorite characters, and in unlocking hidden characters as you earn coins to go the the Krypt. But, when it comes down to it, there is little or no strategy or planning involved. The player is not rewarded for a well thought-out battle plan or character development, but rather how fast he/she can pound their bleeding thumbs onto the game-pad buttons. The Konquest mode has some style combination moves that are riduculously hard to perform (you would never be able to do them in an actual fight).

For pure fighting gaming I give this game 5-stars. For its ability to hold a players long-term interest I give it 2-stars.
