Its been a long time

It has been many years since I played this game. I remember waiting in line at Sears to buy this new for 10 bucks back in 02. I must have played it about 30 times. Seriously. Anyway, what I remember about this game is its wonderful music, its unique and memorable characters, and it epic story about a civil war. Both Suikoden 1 and 2 have vast, epic stories. The graphics are outdated now, even back in 96 they were outdated. When playing the fifth one, it is hard to justify going back to the original. If I were to spend hours playing a game, I would rather play the fifth. I think that this game should be remade with a more modern feel. They could do it for Wild Arms, why not Suikoden? Its ten times better than Wild Arms.... The original was just too short and many characters were not explored enough. Likewise, the world (with its towns) is really small. I thought Sol-Falena was small, but Gregminster is just a small collection of mud huts. This is one game definitely worth of a remake! Since they have a tough time making good Suikoden games (3,4 and Tactics just plain sucked) maybe they should go back and remake the first two. Lets face it, they wasted years and money on the above 3 games and gave nothing but negatives to the series by doing so.

Enjoying the game still....

Great game! Great condition! As with the rest of the Suikoden games, I'm not disappointed. It came faster than anticipated as well. Trust this seller. They'll do right by you!

Timeless Classic

Ok so I slept on Suikoden when it first came out but the fact that I am writing a review on this game about a decade after it's initial release is a testament to how good it actually is. I played it for the first time about a month before I got my PS2 and fell in love with it even though it was antiquated graphically. Although to be fair I like the graphics particularly in the sequel they both have a suttle charm to them once you get into the game a ways. The cast of characters in the game is unparalleled and while it may not have the development of all the characters in three the leads are fully fleshed out and there are plenty of the other characters that have their moments(Pahn is my personal favorite). The story is a perfect balance of old and new as you fight against the Scarlet Moon Empire from your island castle. The army battles are the best in the serious and some of the more fun moments in any game. Don't sleep on Suikoden you need to own it if you love RPG's and for all of you for who Sui3 was your first experience with the series you will love the original if you like 3.

it can't get better than this

suikoden 1 a game you won't stop playing. As you play you get the most cool charecters of the 108 stars of destiny.People might think its not good by its cover but it is the best game in the world .Mini games,27 true runes,108 stars of destiny, and much much much more.Enter a ancient world of bravery, mysticism, and war.Change your party of charecter using any of over 100 recruits that you meet on your mission.Build a castle fortress to headquarter your army.watch as your castle grows as more charecters join you.Untravel the secret of the empire ,unlock the meaning of the 27 true runes, and discover the 108 stars of destiny.Multiply batle modes, one-on-one duels banded fight, even full-scale army vs.army.So go out there right now because most of them are sold out it will be hard to find them REAL RARD.

Suikoden is the BEST RPG EVER!

I had read a preview for Suikoden 3 when the writer said, "If your going to play Suikoden 3, play the first two first." And so I did.
This was the best advise I had ever taken. It is such a fun game. I've played Final fantasy 7-10, but this beats all of them. No where does the game go bad. Collecting all 108 characters was just a blast and was well worth the time. The game was a little short, (20 hours), but it was just too good.
If you are an RPG fan, you have seen nothing if you havent played Suikoden yet.
Buy it and play it and trust me, you will not be sorry!

A game worth playing

After completing this game here are my thoughts: This game is one of the most entertaining games for playstation. It has a few problems. They don't matter unless you plan to get all of the 108 characters. The main problem is once you get to the point where you can beat the game you cannot get the master blacksmith, because you need to have a specific 4 characters when three of you characters you can't change. (you can have six characters). So the main problem is minor, so for the price that is offered here buy it, unless you hate RPGs

In all my 19 years of life there has never been a better RPG released since Final Fantasy II

A Good Game (and some random background)

It's been a while since I played this game, but I still remember it pretty well.

The basic story is that your character is the son of a powerful noble who sees the suffering of the people and becomes involved in a revolutionary movement. Not too uncommon, but well done.

For most of the game you wander around with 6 characters doing generic RPG stuff (killing villians, etc), but there are places where you must gather the massive forces of your revolutionary stronghold (cough... Liangshan Marsh, cough) to oppose the vast imperial forces.

The best part of the game that there are 108 characters you can put in your party, each with different animations and abbilites.

Now, for interesting background: this game is, loosely, based on the classical Chinese novel "Outlaws of the Marsh" by Luo Guanzhong and Shi Ni'an. If you've read the book, don't buy the game soley for that reason, but I do see certain similarities between the two.

Boring boring game!

I could not get into this game. With the exception of one track (the mountain theme) the music was horrible, and the fact that there were SO MANY characters, was just annoying because once you have more than a certain number, they can't be developed as full, 3-dimensional characters. This game was so worthless.

awesome
