One of the Greatest Games Ever

Sure, the game gets pretty gruesome, especially for the faint-hearted and those weak-minded enough to be unaware of the fact that it's only a video game. It is fairly challenging at first, but if you're a long-time gamer, the basics should come to you easily. Granted, you're not liable to win right away even with the basics, but it's still fun to try. I'm more partial to playing the multi-player extra games rather than the story modie itself, though I do love story mode as much as the next gamer. Playing in different scenarios, this game is definately more fun to play in a group whether it be mutli-player, or it's just you and a bunch of your friends screaming excited instructions to whomever has the control playing story mode.
On another note, I don't quite understand people's complaints that this game has no story. No, it does not have one big general story as most are used to, but it has a story for each of its characters which only adds to originality. Again, if you cannot handle a horror movie or complain about stupid video game gore that has no effect on the real world so there is no point to protest it, DO NOT PURCHASE!! The game may be too strong if you fall into any of those categories. As for everyone else, especially veteran gamers, this game is a must. It's quality and level of fun is about up there with the original Twisted Metal. The graphics are pretty outstanding for a violent car-chase-style game and it provides hours of fun with a good level of challenge.
I have never seen a game quite like this. The Twisted Metal series has been my only favorite games involving cars. This shows Twisted Metal's great strides in the field of video games. Car games are not usually too enjoyable. Twisted Metal: Black, however, comes close to topping all genres of video games being only shy of the original Twisted Metal. Taking a look at the game overall, it deserves as much credit as could possibly be given. It is wonderfully enjoyable though not being too child/family/fainted-hearted friendly. Avid gamers should definately buy!

BEST TWISTED METAL YET!!!!!!

Let's start off with the graphics....the missiles and explosions on the cars are unmatched by any other ps2 game out there.and the cars and buildings make the game very realistic...the gameplay is fun but like many other people may agree, it is very dark and definitely deserves a mature rating.....the story mode is fun but does get boring at times....I have to say that the best part in this game would be the multiplayer games, so if you liked the other twisted metal games for ps1 and you have a ps2......then you must buy this game..but if not then i advise you to rent this game and get to know it before purchasing.....

Alright, the first two games were great. I owned them both and played them all the time. Now I have PS2 and I have TM:B and this game is better than the first two and way better than the messed up 989 studio games. TM:B has the best gameplay, graphics, movies/storylines,just the best everything. Plus this game has a really dark and evil mood that really adds to it. It really draws you in to it. There are some new characters and old characters but the old have new drivers. For instance Wharthog is driven by Blade and yellowjacket is driven by Chalie Kane and son. That is the only sort of downfall in this game. The multiplayer features cant be beat and you can have up to 4 players.

If you liked the first two then go out and buy this now!

Ok. First things first. I was nine when I first played this. And the game was pretty fun. It's a shoot em up car game with great graaphics, and "personable" characters. Bu then I saw the character bios. God, those were creepy, blood, guts, gore, taunting music, and other wierd effects. So ths game is pretty fun, but very dark. Or maybe I was a little young when I played this....heck, buy it if ya' like a nice game.

Highly addictive

I've been playing the Ps1 twisted metal games for years. At first this game seemed a little hard for me, but later I tried it again and I became a slave to it!

The graphics are nothing short of mindblowing. With every missle shot the explosion leaves an amazing sparkle. I guess the reasons the graphics seem so good is because I've gotten really used to the previous versions. There are up to fift-teen characters you can have after you unlock all of them, and ten different levels for multiplayer mode. On endurance mode I played as Minion and murdered about 430 cars before I died! The music is pretty decent because the last Twisted Metal games were beside metal music and I'm not too big of a fan for metal. After matches end, the next one is started usually without waiting any time to load.

The down sides to this game is you can't play two player death matches with enemies. Also there are different playable levels for one player mode than for multiplayer mode. Unlocking other new cars involve procedures on the Internet which are long and complicated, especially for that Axel character.

From wikipedia, here's the list of characters:
Default characters:

Junkyard Dog, a stereotypical redneck farmer driving a tow truck.
Brimstone, a delusional evangelist rejected by the church, on a white El Camino.
Outlaw, a former sniper for the local SWAT team, driving a S.W.A.T. SUV.
Mr. Grimm, a cannibalistic Vietnam War veteran on an armored motorcycle.
Road Kill, a former member of a small-time gang on a green scrap-car.
Crazy 8, a former and disfigured underground boxer on a modified classic, VW Beetle-like car
Spectre, a lovesick bridesmaid on a blue Corvette.
Darkside, a former assistant for a maskmaker, driving a black semi truck with a police car chained to the grill.
Shadow, a schoolgirl outcast on a lavender hearse.
Sweet Tooth, a mass murderer on an ice cream truck.
Unlockable characters:

Yellow Jacket, a beat-up yellow taxi cab driven by Charlie Kane and his son.
Axel, locked into a wheeled torture device.
Manslaughter, a mysterious contestant on a dump truck.
Warthog, a killer driving a station wagon mounted to a flametank.
Minion, the winner of last year's tournament on a tanker truck.

gore? Insanity? Above all, complete and utter annihilation of all that is predictable and civilized? If not, go home. 'Cause this twisted, sadistic, psychotic game is definitely not for you.

The first thing I'll say (just to get it outta the way) is that: parents? This is not for the chidluns. I seriously don't recommend this game for anyone under the age of 12 or 13 unless you are absolutely sure they can handle it. And I've never met a kid that could.

Now, with that outta the way, on to the goodies.

This game has some of the most intricate and captivating storylines (plural, because the game can, like so many others, be completed with all characters), and it is all backed by the realism of it all. You can almost FEEL the pain some of the characters feel. The graphics and soundtrack don't hurt the game, either; both are solid bases that are only improved upon with the voiceovers and cutscenes.

I would go on in-depth, but I have my alternate, night-prowling, world-saving life to get on to, so I will leave it at that and hope you have the good (or maybe bad) judgement to get your grubby little hands on this amazing game. You know you want it.

i have never played this game but i can tell its good by the fact that everyone who gave it less then 4 stars sounds like a whiney little 6 year old."Mommy! the bad guys are hurting me!It's not fair! There all ganging up on me!" Maybe you should stick to rugrats scavenger hunt until your in 3rd grade.

I highly suggest that all PS2 owners out there check out this game somehow. It is by far the best car combat game ever made. ps2.ign.com gave it a 9.6 out of 10, and videogames.com gave it a 9.5 out of 10, to prove my point. If you are interested in the slightest bit, play this game.

Not want you would expect

When you first start playing TMB, you will be saying to yourselve, "WOW", until you play it for 1 or 2 hours straight, and then realize that it wasn't want you expected. One reason why the twisted metal series was so great, was new innovation to the car combat genre. unfortunately no new innovation has added to this game, in fact you could stay it going downhill. The game lack so much stuff that make all the other series look like winner. What the game lack isn't in it graphic department, but it most important aspect of any game, the gameplay. It fast, infact it super fast, how can a 16 wheeler go as fast as a motorcycle, and realize how lame and such a poor excuse the developer of this game made it. The car physic is probably the worst i have ever seen. It never feel like your actually driving on the ground, every car has the same physic driving. Instead of driving like any other game, it drive more like on ice and hovercraft style. It lame, and also it very hard to hit your opponent. Also every game is a handicap game, not only do the al don't shoot each other but that all the al are all trying to destory you. It doesn't take long before a barrage of missle is aiming for your cars. This take so much away from the game, that for beginner will be totally outwhelmed. It also pretty hard on the easy setting because every game is a handicap games. Now talk about going downhill, there is no replay, extra, and no clear objective to any of the mission, but rather on objective and that is to destroy how many cars the game want you to destroy. Put in bad graphic and poor gameplay with an unexcusable 14 cars only, and you get a poor quality of a twisted metal game that the only thing going for it was the hype.

I don't see how this game can fail.

With an excellent, twisted storyline, characters that have you half laughing, half freaking out because of their past (a guy who wheres the skull of a friend who he was forced to eat in Vietnam, crazy!), and an excellent car demolition engine, it is hard to find any faults within this game. The graphics are incredible, the landscapes are huge, the cars are incredibly detailed, and the whole game is destructable with a dark, evil look. Fans of the Twisted Metal Series won't be disappointed.
