Best Expansion Pack

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 5
Date: October 17, 2001

The Brood war expansion pack is fantastic. You've only been playing half the game if your playing Starcraft without it. The story line continues from the original Starcraft with extra missions and new troop types. Unlike other game expansion packs Brood War actually feels like it should be part of the original rather than just being bolted onto it. If you love being Terran then buy Brood war just for the Medic, which heals (repairs) Marines and other troops. Medics are best used in pairs (so they can heal each other) Few opponents can stand up under the onslaught of two medics and a full group of marines, together they will do a lot of damage. If you love Protos buy Brood war for the Dark Templars who are not only permanently cloaked but can meld with another (Like Templars) to create Dark Archons who in turn have the MIND CONTROL ability to steal units from your opponent. Unfortunately if you're a Zerg player (like myself ;0), the Zerg don't do as well on the new troops. The Devourer is a new Air to Air attack flyer. It's a little expensive in both minerals and time (evolves from a Mutalisk) compared to its damage. The Lurker, which evolves from a Hydralisk is the only unit that can attack whilst burrowed. Since no unit can move while it is burrowed the Lurker becomes just a glorified sunken colony. It's well worth buying this expansion pack

dark archons are kings!

brood war is so cool, i love it so much. the new units are very nice too: terran medics let me send out groups of people to explore without worrying about the average marine lifespan of 20 seconds.

i personally think corsairs may have tipped the balance too much to the protoss' favor because a fleet of corsairs will simply suppress the enemy's defences (even bunkers); combine that with archons doing the assault---wow!

dark archons are kings! my favourite trick is to convert basic enemy units eg scv/drone/probe and start building things---i have another race to control! now i can combine 2-3 races at once to take out the enemy. i find each race fit together as fighting units very effectively eg. corsairs+guardians+valkyrie

enjoy!

Best RTS I've ever played

As with all RTS games, the best value is multiplayer. Brood war also has a good campaign.

Unlike some other strategy titles (Warcraft II & Age of Empires), the units for each playable group are extremely different in stats and pictures. Amazingly, the races are balanced. You will, however, eventually find that one suits you better.

You can spend years learning the nuances of using the many spellcasters available.

Good old Starcraft with new twists!

When the origional starcraft came out, I flocked on over to the computer store to pick me up a copy. When Brood war came out, I flocked over to the computer store to pick me up a copy. I am still not tired with either one of them! they are both excellent games and are well-worth the incredibely low price. Have fun gaming!

If any of you reading this review have played a RTS before you must now find your way to the add to shopping cart button and click it. This is the best computer game ever. All of the 3 races are balanced, which is very rare for an RTS and the new units add to the fray of already spectacular killing machines. Also the storyline is one of the best i've ever seen.
The graphics are spectacular for there "old age". B.Net, the multiplayer Starcraft is very diverse and there are many games like playing Cops and Robbers to Paintball or Capture The Flag. So stop wasting time that can be better spent buying this game.

I've had this game ever since it came out, and it never gets old. I still play it more than most of my other games and on Bnet people are always making new maps on the included versitle map editor. This game is a classic. It never gets old. Looking forward to Warcraft 3 and hoping a Starcraft 2.

Classic War Game that is FUN FUN FUN

I don't own a lot of games but those from Blizzard I really appreciate. They have a nice way of capturing the fun of playing games. I liked Diablo but didn't find a lot of replay value. This game was a lot of fun playing over and over again. Why can't more games be this well done? I don't like spending a lot of time learing to get started. This one takes off immediatly and you can continue to learn new strategies several hours later. If I had one game this would be it.

StarCraft is back and better than ever!

For people who have played the original StarCraft, this expansion is definitly worth buying. It includes several new units: the Medic and Valkyrie for the Terrans, the Corsair, Dark Templar, and Dark Archon for the Protoss, and the Lurker and the Devourer for the Zerg. It also has thirty new challenging levels featuring various worlds such as Shakuras, world of the Dark Templar, and Korhal, the nuclear raged world of the Terran Dominion. Another plus for this game, is that at the ending credits, it hints that there will eventually be a StarCtaft II.
For people who like to use the special Campaign Editor feature, you're in luck. There are several new special commands that weren't prevously featured in the original StarCtaft. This leads to hours of enjoyment of... more map making.
The only disapointment of this game is that there are only three campaign movies, and they're all at the end of each campaign. The good thing about this is that it left them more room for longer end-level movies and a killer Intro. I'm just happy that they're making a DVD of all the movies.
All in all, this is a great Expansion Pack for a great game, and even if you haven't played the original yet get it anyways. Besides, it's more fun if you play the Brood War campaigns first before the original. Good luck, and happy Brooding!

Starcraft broodwar is the same as Starcraft the original but also at the same time so much different. Not only do you have more units but also different campaigns. Plus wail playing the costume you know have a free for all. As much fun as the first and much better.
