Another instant classic by EA. I thought two towers was the greatest... TILL I PLAYED THIS GAME!! 1st of all, the by far most awsome feture of this game is the Co-oP mode. Fight side by side with yur friend. There isnt alot of really good rpgs like that. O yea, name 5. And then, the top-of-the line graphics make any game more fun. Also, the moves are more realist than ttt. The triangle charge attak doesn't kill all the orcs around in one hit. Just nocks em over. Yes, there are some things that dont exactly happen in the book in there (the hobbits have daggers and poison blades, and other levels that diddnt happen,in 2 p for hobbits, one person has to be merry and he wasnt there with frodo and sam.) But hay, its 2 p. Somethins gotta give right? But also, one one level, Feilds of pelentor, there are supposed to be 3 aliphants that come, and once only 2 came and i won(Glitch!) but thats ok w/ me. Any way, this game is probably obe of the best games made. i would definately recomend it to almost any1. I got it the 2ond day it was out and thought it as my best game (until i get socom2 and jak2 and ... no jj) I give it 5 stars, c'est Tres bien mes amis!!

Tough but fun.

Return of the King is a fun game and a real challenge. I thought the Two Towers game was tough, but this is much tougher. Even on the easy setting. I had a hard time with a couple levels. The Walls of Minas Tirith was nearly impossible to beat. I got frustrated many times, but I eventually beat the game.

Despite my frustration with its difficulty, I really do love the game and enjoy playing it. The graphics are great and the characters are fun to play (except for Frodo - he's very weak).

If you like the movie and like adventure games, you'll like this game.

this is one of the best games on earth!!!

I just bought this game a couple of days ago to give to my son for Christmas. My husband and I, however, have already opened it and are addicted. My husband has already beat the game, but once he did, new levels were unlocked. Once you beat the game, you can unlock new characters and use any character you want in levels where you were limited before. You can take Gandalf on levels where you could only take Frodo and Sam on before. The more you play, the more you level up and the more *** you kick. The graphics are awesome and the music is breathtaking. It's not too hard and not too easy and is definitely worth purchasing!!!

So have you read the books or mabye you seen one of the movies? Well, if you have this game is great! Now you are no longer limited to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli to chose from like in The Two Towers. Now Electronic Arts has made it possible to play all 9 characters. You also have the voice of the original movie actors. Now, instead of just one stream of levels you have paths. These paths include: The Path of the Wizard, The Path of the King, and The Path of the Hobbits. Whatever one you chose to play will determine the characters you be able to play. Below is the paths and the characters that are unlock in that path:

****************************************

*The Path of the Wizard*: Gandalf the White

Very fun path but challeging! This is my favorite path of the game.

Levels: Helm's Deep, The Road to Isengard, Cirith Ungol: Top of the Wall, Cirith Ungol: Courtyard

****************************************

*The Path of the Hobbits*: Sam and Frodo

The hardest of them all, here you'll encounter many things from escaping a crumbling city to killing huge spiders!

Levels: Escape from Osgilath, Shelob's Lair, Mouth of Sauron, Crack of Doom

****************************************

*The Path of the King*: Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli

The ultimate battle path. This is the only path you get to select from more then one character. You face dangers such as the living dead and one HUGE battle!!!

Levels: The Paths of the Dead, The King of the Dead, Palentur Fields, and much more

****************************************

My Overview of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Graphics: 10/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Diffuclty: 8/10 (10 being the hardest and 1 being the easiest)
Sound: 10/10
Controls, Easy to Understand: 10/10

Well, I hope this review has got you excited about Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King video game and mabye you can join the battle alongside the Fellowship in the last part of the movie trilogy! This is the most complete game in my collection and I hope you'll buy it too! It adds alot to your PS2 game collection!!!!

What better way to spend an afternoon or a late night with another friend, than to play a two player Playstation 2 game? Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is a must play for LOTR fan or just fans of co-op games.
Unlike the first installments of The Lord of the Rings games, this one game be played with two people. You can play as either Frodo, Merry, Sam, Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, and Gandalf. There are also several hidden characters after beating the game, but I won't give anything away.

First time through: only a select 2 or 3 characters can be used. You level up, and use your experience points to buy skills. Also after beating areas, secret footage and interviews are unlocked.
Second time through: play any level with any character, except perhaps the hidden ones that are still locked.

Despite some great features this game seems to have, it's still very short. Putting in several hours a day, it took 3 days to beat. It's a great great rental. If you're a collector of the games though, this is a must buy. However, waiting until the price goes down would probably be wisest.

Pros:
A great two player fantasy adventure game
Unlockable features
Footage from all movies
Classic hack and slash fun

Cons:
Very short.
Most movies have little Return of the King footage

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE SEEN THE '' TRILOGY '' EITHER IN THE MOVIES OR ON DVD, THIS GAME RELIVES ALL THE SAME FUN THAT THE MOVIES HAD!THE '' TWO TOWERS '' WAS A LOT OF FUN AS WELL, BUT A FEW LEVELS WERE RIDICULOUSLY HARD TO BEAT..THE SAME CAN BE SAID OF THE LEVEL '' MINAS TIRITH-TOP OF THE WALL '' LEVEL.ALL OF THE LEVELS ARE PRETTY MUCH STRAIGHTFORWARD AND SIMPLE TO GRASP, BUT NOT ALL ARE EASY.THE COOL THING IS YOU GET TO PLAY CERTAIN LEVELS AS SAM, OR GANDALF .AND THE OTHER LEVELS YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM GIMLI,ARAGORN,OR LEGOLAS. BUT WHEN YOU FINISH THE GAME YOU UNLOCK FAROMIR,GANDALF, PIPPIN, MERRIN ,FRODO ,AND SAM WHICH YOU CAN PLAY IN ALL THE LEVELS , EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE.YOU REALLY DON'T NEED TO BUY ALL THE CHARACTERS UPGRADES , BUT IT IS COOL TO PULL OFF A FEW COOL NEW MOVES IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE..BUT REMEMBER TO PARRY AND USE THE FIERCE ATTACK TO SHATTER THE ENEMIES SHIELDS .AND PARRY WHILE SHOOTING YOUR ARROWS, AS THE ARCHERS RETURN FIRE.AND LIKE THE '' THE TWO TOWERS ''GAME THEIR IS ALSO A 20 LEVEL FIGHTING ARENA WHICH YOU CAN PLAY.YOU DON'T GET ANYTHING FOR COMPLETING IT, JUST THE SATISFACTION OF SURVIVING IT..SO GET IT TODAY, AND YOU'LL BE ENTERTAINED FOR HOURS..ENJOY '' THE LORD OF THE RINGS ''!!

By Far The Best Game!

First of all, the game has actual scenes included from the movies. Yes, it has scenes from both the Two Towers AND the Return of the King. This is because you fight in Helm's Deep in the beginning of the game and work your way up from there. The actors from the movies did the voices of the characters as well.

Second, the actors are interviewed for the game, and they are shown playing the game themselves and talking about it. A little something extra to make it even more interesting.

Third, the graphics are great! I love how they morph from a scene in the movie to the game characters and vice versa. The game characters look very much like the real actors too. Beware: the movie scenes will morph back to the game characters without warning so you'd better be ready to begin playing again or you may find yourself the victim of a nasty orc or mountain troll.

Basically, you fight in the same battles that occur in the movie, but because it's a game, your battles may involve more than is in the movie. You can play as Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Sam, Frodo, or Gandalf and when you beat the game you get 3 more special characters to play as. I won't tell you who they are - I don't want to ruin the surprise. Hint: After you beat the game you will be given secret codes and secret levels. Now, usually I don't like to use secret codes to win, but in this case the makers of the game GIVE you the codes, and they do it for a reason. Once you've beaten the game fair and square, in order to beat the scret levels you WILL need those codes or you won't beat the secret levels! Trust me, we tried it with Aragorn at level 16 and Legolas at level 12 - we could not beat "the Palantir of Sauron" without the codes, and even then it's tough to do! Hint 2: After you beat the game, you can play ANY character in ANY path you want. For example, you can take Aragorn and Legolas to "The Crack of Doom" with Gollum instead of Frodo and Sam. Or you can take Frodo and Sam along the "Path of the Dead." It's great, and much more than the 10 hours of play time one other reviewer mentioned.

In the game you choose between three different paths: The path of the King, the path of Gandalf, or the path of the Hobbits. As you level up and win battles you get to learn new techniques and purchase new weapons for your character. You need this in order to win at higher levels. One interesting feature is in the battle at the Black Gate. You not only have to fight the enemy but protect your party as well. If any of your party members die, you lose.

Finally, you can play as a single player, multi player, or if you have network capability, you can go online and play in the online world of Return of the King. My only complaint is that I wish there were more places to save the game. You have to finish a battle before you can save it - there's no saving part way through a battle. Also, some of the camera angles are not the best, but oh well. Don't let it ruin your fun. Overall, it's a great game! Of course, eventually you'll beat the game or grow tired of it just like all your other adventure/action games, but that's to be expected. However, if you play as all possible characters and take all possible paths, you will end up with quite a bit of playing time. I highly recommend the game!!

One last word. I've read some people's reviews saying it's just a slashing game - well, duh! The movie is one battle after another, not an adventure as it may have been in the Fellowship of the Ring. This is a fighter's game, not an adventure lover's game. If you want to search and explore in a game, and you love Lord of the Rings, I suggest you try "The Fellowship of the Ring." That game is not made by EA, so the graphics are very, very different, but it's a good game none the less, and the storyline actually follows the book rather than the movie. Also, the first four levels of "Return of the King" are NOT fighting the dead. The only place where you fight the dead is in "the Path of the King" ON "the path of the dead."

My son and I have beaten the game, and we still love to play it. It has great replay value, so buy it and enjoy!!!

Satisfaction Guaranteed

Unlike some of the other reviewers that feel they have to write a whole essay on the game, I'm going to make it short and sweet.

This game, like Two Towers, is great because you have multiple characters to play with and also, different paths. The graphics are tight as are the sound. The controls are also easy and the combos are neat. I like the fact that not only can you purchase upgrades for your character but the whole team as well. I would purchase upgrades for everyone, because my tactic is to complete each level using all the characters. After all members completed that same level, I'd move on. So, purchasing upgrades for everyone made it easier for me to advance as the next character.
The game did get a little overwhelming, especially the levels where you had multiple enemies to fight, but the game is just awesome anyway.

So, should you buy it. Yes. But, be warned you'll get addicted and play for all hours of the night!!!

"The battle of Helm's Deep is over....the battle for Middle-Earth is about to begin..." The video game "The Two Towers" leaves us on such a note. The Return of the King, will be, no doubt in my mind, will be the most ground-breaking video game anyone has seen. The Two Towers was unbelievably on the money for what a movie-made-into-a-game should be like. A hack and slash game, it did not only have realistic and believable situations but the characters and their moves were authentic and true to the movie. So what, do you ask, were the faults of this game? I'm sorry did I say faults in a plural sense. In my mind, there was only one fault to the game. Unexplorable environments. And guess what...The return of the king compensates for that. Wish granted. It also presents 3 new characters to the list: Gandalf, Frodo, and Sam. Such diversity in choices can lead two ways: Absolutely a superb game, or a weak spread "butter over to much bread" game. Hold the toast, thank you very much....because the game is not going to be a weak undeveloped game! The Return of The King will also present co-op play which will make the adventure so real and authentic to the book (especially if you have friends are named Frodo and Sam!) All in all, this will be the game that we will play over and over and over again and still not get sick of the adventure!
