I was at Comic Con in San Diego in July, 2003 and actually got to play the game before its release!!! It is remarkable! I didn't think they could do better on the character renditions but they did. The faces look exactly like the actors and the backgrounds are so realistic. With the number of playable characters increased and the 2-player co-op mode, this looks to be better than the Two Towers game which I just love!!!

Wow!!

Thsi game is by far the best LOTR game yet. The graphics are pretty good, the co-op is extremely cool, there is online play, more characters, more levels, and is also extremely more difficult, even on EASY!! EA is startin' to crank out a new line of great games so be one of the first to get this great, and challenging game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorites

I fell in love with this game the first time I played it. The graphics and the sounds are incredible. The gameplay if fun. It keeps you interested especially since they have three different paths to follow, as well as several different players you can do it with. I play it with my son so having it play in co-op mode is a HUGE benefit and source of enjoyment.

My only gripe is that if you are playing by yourself, it is sometimes hard to build up a player. Locking the game behind you as you progress is really disappointing.

Other than that, fantastic!!!! Highly recommended. A huge improvement over the Two Towers game. I love this game!!

Great Game

this is a really good game, it has awesome gameplay and the levels are hard and but not to hard. the graphics are really good too.

The only reason I dont give this game 5 stars is because most of the levels you play happen in th LOTR the two towers, hardley any of it is based on LOTR the return of the king

I know that not everyone has alot of money to spend on games but if youre thinking of buying a game this one is really good. Its also good to play with friends because you can do 2 player mission mode and you complete the level together. Or you can do 1 player and beat it buy yourself. If you are into action and fun gameplay I suggest you buy this game

1 of the best games EVER!!!

I enjoyed the gameplay, graphics etc. of this game. However it is unreasonably difficult. That plus the fact there are no save points within the levels makes it a thumbs down for me. I enjoy my PS2 but am not interested in making playing this (or any) game into a full time job. These guys who say they finished the game in a few days must me either professional gamers or have A LOT of free time.

This game ROCKS!!

This game is awesome. I especially love the co-op mode. My friend and I had SO much fun playing this game. Also, one note on annesklass2 from New York's review. He/She said that one of the secret characters is Golom. This is NOT true. The secret characters are Merry, Pippin and Faramir (Boromir's brother) I repeat, Golom is NOT one of the secret characters. Have fun!

So realistic and Fun, You'll think you're in Middle Earth

Explosions, Noise, Struggle, the beginning of this game kicks off throwing you into the battle for Helm's Deep, this is when you get a real feel for this game.

This game does not dissapoint there is no game that compares to it except for Rachet& Clank, Socom II and MA:GitS. Good company, for such an excellent game.

This game is extremely fun, except the levels are very complicated, and at times nearly impossible to figure out, and beat Example; The Wall at Minas Terith).

The coolest part is the way you can upgrade your character, and teach him new tricks. You can choose from Gandalf, Legolas, Sam, Gimli or Aarigorn, with the addition of some other supprise characters...

This game also alows you to fight many opponents at the same time. Thus making this game great.

There is the option of playing co-op with a freind, it is a lot of fun to play alongside your freinds.

This game is amazingly fun, but only buy it if you want a huge challenge, I love this game and play it all of the time, no matter how hard it is.

Overview:

Fun- 15/10 so much fun to play, and a lit of fun to play with freinds.

Gameplay- 15/10 A lot of fun to use the moves you've bought and to take out multiple enemies at the same time.

Graphics- 15/10 So realistic you'll be wearing band-aids by the end of your game.

Difficulty- 15/10 very hard, physically and mentally.

Overall: 60/40

This is one of those games that you quit out of frustration, but then find yourself on the game 5 minutes later...it's that addictive.

BUY OR RENT THIS GAME, EITHER WAY, YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED.

best movie of the year, and best game of the year

The Return of the King as three paths to it that you can take. First, (for everyone that has'nt played the game yet) it starts out at Helms Deep at the very end of the battle when Gandalf comes with the Riders of Rohan and crushes Sauruman's uruk-hai. The you finally get to choose what path you want, their is The path of the king which is Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli and you fight through such levels as Paths of the dead (the paths of the dead is a boring level if you play one player, but it is much funner in co-op (two player)) also you will play the king of the dead, the southern gate( my favorite level), pelennor fields, and finally the black gate, then there is path of the wizard you will play as gandalf in this path and play the road to Isengard, Minas Tirith: On top of the wall, and Minas Tirith: Courtyard. They are all pretty easy levels. Then their is the paths of the hobbits the first three levels of the hobbit you will play as Sam ( escape from Osgiliath, Shelob's lair, and Cirith Ungol) then on the last level you will play as Frodo aganist Gollum in the crack of Doom. I think this game has no cons and is probably one of the best game's ever, make sure you buy this game, and also buy the TT and play that, I hope you have enjoyed my revieew and maybe learned some things that will help you

Experience LOTR in this glorious game...

This game is the best, with a good mix of fighting and time-oriented puzzle levels. The graphics are wonderful, far better even than the Two Towers, and the levels are excellent. I would not have minded having a few more chequepoints in some of the more difficult levels as it can be extremely frustrating to be sent back to the beginning of a hard-played level when one fails at the very end. If you were unable to be a part of Peter Jackson's incredible film, this is the next best thing, although the plot is a bit different from the film that was released in the cinemas. I suspect that Frodo's 'shiny shirt' may turn up in the extended version of ROTR, however as it is an important part of the original story by Tolkien. The gameplay is more sophisticated than Two Towers: there are opportunities in this game to interact with different items, allowing a character to climb ropes, use catapults, overturn vats filled with burning oil, cast spears and so on. I rather wish that the secret levels, which are really training levels, would have been available BEFORE one wins the game, but they are given only as a reward after one beats every level. It is similar to the Two Towers in this respect.

I have to say that I found some of the characters to be inferior to others in their fighting abilities, no matter how many upgrades they have. In particular, poor Pippin always has a more difficult time of it than the others. Gimli, albeit very slow, is a powerhouse of strength and has a wonderful tumbling combination move, but the sheer joy of being Legolas, who is the fastest and most graceful of all players, cannot be equalled.

With respect to LOTR games, I actually recommend the GBA version of ROTR above all others, as it is incredibly detailed, extremely beautiful and one can play six different characters, including Eowyn. (I would have liked to have seen her in the PS2 version.) The GBA version has more to it than fighting, as one can spend time searching for ancient artifacts and finding valuable weapons and armour can be fun as well.
