The verdict on the PC port of the psx game Final Fantasy8

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 6

For all you people out there who don't know the "Final Fantasy" series the flagship title of Squaresoft you all should slap yourself in the head cause you don't know what you're missing on. This is a great game if it wasn't originally on the psx...it's just the same game with no improvement except some graphical upgrades when casting spells, and summoning guardian forces. It's dissapointing to see that it's the exact port of the playstation. And all you PC gamers out there who love 3D graphics, don't expect it to see it here...the game has dated 640*480 resolution, I think that Squaresoft should've put a little more effort their PC ports, but if you overlook those bad details, this game is truely worthy to be titled "Final Fantasy". I really think you should sacrifice your precious game time into this classic rpg...final verdict...get it...

The Best game I've ever played!

This Is the the best game I've ever played. The plot on FF8 is beautifully made. The price is exellent for the games quality. Though some problems are that if you dont have at least a pentium 2 processor 266MHZ and 64MB of ram and 4MB of video ram the game is going to go very slow. The graphics on this game are way better than FF7. And the sound is the typical MIDI.

Gee WHIZ!

These graphics are so hot! I'm telling you I have to pause the game cause I get so excited I gotta take a whiz. Sorry if I sound nasty, but it does. Get it. Thats not the only thing, the story line is great too. The bad stuff, weapons are confusing, GF takes too long, and the magic is stupid. You gotta "draw" it what the hell is that all about? All in all, FF7 is the best, but ff8 shines as well.

I've completed half this game and am bored with it!

I loved FF7 and got really involved in the characters and plot. The magic was superb. I had great anticipation for FF8. The characters ar not as loveable and the story up until the point I stopped playing it was good but not as good as FF7. The story is too linear and The summons take too long. You may spend 30 minues fighting and 25 of that is watching summons! The interface is also very SNESy. The best part of this game for me was the cut scenes as these are the best EVER on the PC. I spent a good deal of time pkaying this game and was not rewarded enough. I cant help but think this game is over rated. Its good but its not THAT good. Long live Cloud!

The Best RPG I've played

Final Fantasy VIII is a great epic tale about a young boy named Squall who keeps to himself and comes across as very cold and uncaring, and who goes on a quest to save the world from evil sorceresses. As a member of SeeD, and elite military force, Squall and his friends journey all over to complete their mission and achive their goals.

First of all, the graphics in this game are outstanding, some of the best I've ever seen. A far cry from the disproportianate madness of previous Final Fantasies and the newest one, FFIX, FFVIII characters have a more realistic look. Some might think that this takes away from the Final Fantasy legacy, but I think it is an emblem of change in the RPG world.

Moreover, the sound quality is amazing. The music and sounds are clear and fitting, and the sountrack (which includes one song with lyrics called 'Eyes on Me' by Faye Wong)is incredible.

The storyline, I'm sorry to say, is less exciting than Final Fantasy VII, the next best thing, but the missions and battles bring it to life. It is easy to follow, and though sometimes boring with long, extended dialog, always keeps moving and is never without action.

Another step away from traditional final fantasy is that no longer is there an MP system to gain magic. Now, you use the draw command during battle or at specific draw points to gain magic. Also, the full summons of Guardian Forces (GF's) are shown every time they are used, and the use of them is unlimited.

Sorry, no mages in this game, but there are Chocobos! There is a small game included in this PC version that allows you to raise a chickobo (baby Chocobo). Go into the Chocobo forest and catch one. It's really cool to raise them in Chocobo World (the game).

The cinema in this game is just absolutely astounding. I cannot tell you how much I wish to watch them over and over again. Their is, I believe, over an hour of cinema, all of it breathtaking.

I would call this my favorite game, and recommend it to anyone.

A great leap forward in graphics, backward in gameplay

Everything about this game is wonderful except one tiny detail. The storyline is great, the graphics excellent. The sound, music, even the minigame is wonderful. The only thing that this game lacks is gameplay.

This is the first Final Fantasy game I have ever seen that actually DISCOURAGES exploring the world around you. Every second you pause to explore the scenery instead of moving forward to the next plot element you've had dictated to you is one more second towards losing rank in SeeD and the money that comes with it. Every monster that you actually try and fight just makes all the enemies which you fight after it stronger, to the point where some online guides recommend running away from every single battle in order to make the bosses easier. Thinking perhaps that exploring could get you better equipment for your character? Not very often here.

In short, the best way to make your characters stronger is to sit there and use the "Draw" command over and over again to increase your junctioned magic. How positively thrilling. I'd give up the graphics, sound, even a bit of the storyline if only the battle and gameplay system in this game were different.

It Rocks!

this game is great! you have to have all of the goodies on your computer, though, or you won't get the same effect (like poor Bob from accounting). the story line is deeper than the last one, and so is the animation. plus, the main characters look better!

It Takes a while but the twisting plot keeps you playing!

This game is one of the best games I have ever played. The plot, charaters, and graphics are simply stunning. The Battles are long and challenging but fun never-the-less. If your a RPG fan I strongly recomend this awsome game!

There's not much I can say for a game as perfect as Final Fantasy 8. The story line is outstanding and as you play you get to know how each character thinks and feels. The graphics are better than any of the other Final Fantasy games and the music fits perfectly. Theres tons of "side quests" that you can get into along the way and there's also a card game that you can play. The story is based on a theme of love which makes it perfect for people 10-20 years old. You get to know the main character soooooo well you might even know what he'll say before he does! It's VERY hard not to fall in love with this game...no...this masterpiece.

The BEST PC game yet!
