Reality Horror

I held off on giving my comments re MANHUNT as I wanted to be politically correct and despise (and de-cry) the mindless slaughter and offensive tone of the game....but now that the XBox will be releasing the game as well (why such a long delay from the PS2 version!!??) - I decided to join the masses and add my two cent's worth! First off, I am tired of always feeling the need to be politically correct. With that said, MANHUNT is a breath of fresh (foul?) air in a genre that tends to be slightly different versions of the same old thing. Whatever else may be wrong with the game - and I will not elaborate, as others before me have said it better - and more often - at least Rockstar has tried (and in my opinion, succeeded) something different! In this age of Reality TV (SURVIVOR, JOE MILLIONNAIRE, THE APPRENTICE), can a version of MANHUNT be far behind??!! Actually, I am speaking (typing) some what tongue in cheek - but not by much! I think the premise is facinating - and the execution (so to speak) is outstanding. With so much "cerebral" horror in the console gaming world (ie FATAL FRAME, SILENT HILL (to some extent)), it is a treat to get a horror game that is not afraid of its roots - sort of a slasher-flick console game!!! And yes, the sleaze factor is high (you may feel the need to shower afterwards) - but so is the overall creepiness of the environment and cast of characters! For in-depth reviews of the gameplay and characters - read below. But if you are ready for an adult, gaming experience....give it a shot (again, so to speak). My biggest complaint - and it is not with the game per se, but the fact that the industry seems to have little regard for those of us who shell out the big bucks for these games.......had I (and I suspect others) known that Manhunt would be coming out on the XBox - I would have waited to purchase that version over the PS2......oh well, overall it is no different than the multiple releases (within months) of various DVD versions of the same movie.....Let the buyer beware!!!!

Great stress relief

If you really want to be amused read some of the reviews of this game, lowest rating first. (: Very funny. Anyway, this game is repetitive, rather tough, sort of pattern oriented, and gory as Hell. I rented ( never buy first ) and played it all weekend, basically you have to figure out how to kill everyone on the screen without getting caught. How you get there is up to you. If you can creep up on an unaware thug you hold down a button and wait, the amount of time you wait determines what horrible fate awaits the thug in question. If you wait until the icon turns red you get the gorriest kill, and loads of congrats from the sick bugger that has put you in the situation in the first place, plus the screen goes into snuff film mode, grainy film shows you performing unspeakable acts of carnage on the evil thugs. I liked the glass shard. My second favorite was the machete, they must have researched how chopping a head off looks because I broke into evil giggles the first time I waited the 3 seconds it took for the counter to turn red and lopped off some dudes bean amid spurting blood and a solid 'twack' sound effect. This game is not for everyone, but it is solid stealth action, with a twist. You can use anything to draw the attention of the various thugs in the game, from knocking on a wall, to throwing some poor suckers head into a lighted area, use your imagination. This is worrh a rent, and if you really have to have it, buy it used.

What I find more disturbing than the subject of this game is the insanely bad grammar and spelling of the people who rated it the highest. There seems to be an inverse relationship between level of litereracy and the love of this game. You people need to get some balance in your lives and expect more from yourselves.

My 2 cents

I bought this game because it was from Rockstar and I enjoyed Vice City. I knew it would be violent, gritty, nasty and I knew my wife and kids would have to be out of the room when I played. So I am not rating this game because of violence or some other such stuff. (however, I will never loan this game to my nephews like I do with most of my games.)
I am rating this game on the amount of options the player has. In this game there are none but to kill. The player doesn't have the option to sneak away from a Hunter. Oh ya, the player can run but has to go back some time and kill. The game lacks scope. After Vice City I expected a lot of scope and options in Manhunt. In Vice City the player can be a very bad boy or just a minor bad boy. But in Manhunt, the options are so limited that the game lacks scope.
Manhunt would be a great game if the player had the option to find the cameras that are filming and smash them. Instead of consenting to kill, the player should be allowed to explore other paths to success. But to get past a level in Manhunt, the character has to kill. He was framed for murder so why become a murderer? or was he freed by Starkweather and crooked prison guards to make a landmark snuff flick? Either way, the game needs some options to appeal to a large audience. and coming from Rockstar one should expect some grand scope after Vice City.
Unless Rockstar made this game because they wanted to say "Hey, we made a violent game to make parents, teachers, and the ESRB take notice." Yep, let the media make them some money.

Manhunt: go get em from behind you wussy!

I recently purchased Manhunt for 18 dollars. I had heard some negative reviews about the game, but Im a big fan of rockstars other 3rd person mature rated games (such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Revolver). I thought, for 18 dollars how bad can it be?

Everything seemed really good at first. The movement controls seemed solid, the graphics were nice, and the enemy AI was pretty good too. When I got into my first fight, the game went downhill. The fight controls are not just limited, but also slow and frustrating. The only way to survive is to sneak up on enemies and kill them from behind... What? I have to sneak up behind them and kill them like some sort of wuss? I thought manhunt was about fighting face to face and bashing in skulls, not creeping up behind someone like a school girl and choking them with a shopping bag..

Graphics=4.5
Sound and music=3.5
Control=2.5
Fun Factor=2.5
Replay value=2.5

Total=3.1 Stars

The game isn't worth 18 dollars. Wait till it hits 10 dollars

The Age of Snuff Gaming has Begun

I have seen some still of this game scttered along different Gaming Magazines , the game is very brutal , deadly and violent .

The game focuses on the main chacter ( James Carl Cash ) who is wandering in a city called Carcer City , and he is being chased by 2 different types of criminals , the fisr type who wants to make the hunt and kill your charcter and the second type who wants to capture you and torture you VERY SLOWLY to death , and ofcource all of that is recorded on CCTV cameras to be recorded and then sold in the Snuff Multimedia Market .

Snuff movies have been explored before in the excellent movie (8 MM) but this is the first time to be explored on the Gaming Platform , and it comes from the brilliant minds at (RockStar Games) those who are behind the Legendary GTA:Vice City , so expect top notch graphics , Multiple routes and mind blowing scenario , and there in no playable demo available yet , iam sure it will rock the Gaming World , just wait and see .

Quite possibly ONE of the BEST games ever made for PS2

I hear some reviews referring to this game as monotonous. Every video game to a certain degree is. However, this one takes the player to another level. The realism of this game, as far as graphics, dialogue, script, characters, and the overall setting make for some of the best a horror game can offer. The whole concept is just great! Down to the masks that the characters wear, a long with their voices, and things that they say. Since I got this game, I seriously cannot stop! The suspense is just a killer, and you want to keep playing just to see what happens next! Yes, you do have to play most of the game in stealth - but that didn't bore me at all. As far as I'm concerned, it made the game more realistic. Think of yourself as really being in this situation while you play. Stealth would be your only means of survival. I find myself playing this game with a nervous pit in my stomach the entire time. You know it's fake, and all, but you cannot help getting sucked in, and believing it's really going on. I think this game is great!!! I hope to see a sequel in the future that can match this one. I'm actually bummed that I am nearing the end of this game, but at the same time, I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to see what's in store. The only down fall to this game (there are always a few), is that there should've been more gun fighting skits. The gunfire is so realistic, and loud that I could've used more of it. There also should've been more gun varieties, and ammo readily available throughout the game. Cash (your character) has absolutely no fighting skills. I think this was done to make the game more realistic. After all, how many cons are martial artists!??! However, when you do have to fight, Cash is very slow moving, and dreadfully limited to what he can do. A lot more fighting combos would've made this game untouchable to its competition. Also, I really didn't appreciate the level with the War dogs. Although I know they're all supposed to be street gangs, the War dogs are made to look a lot like US soldiers - Not cool, and done on purpose, I bet! The level with the Hobo who sings, and vomits is hysterical!! Great Touch, Rockstar

Put down Splinter Cell cuz this Manhunt is here.

I got a Playstation 2 for Christmas 2003. So I had alot of games to catch up on in a short amount of time. I first played The Getaway which I really enjoyed. Then right after I played Grand Theft Auto III and realized that although the Getaway was good, it seriously lacked in comparison to the GTA series of games. And after playing San Andreas it will be hard to completely enjoy a game again because of the freedom and enless possibilities in San Andreas. So I slowed down on getting games until a friend recently recomended MANHUNT.
And to my surprise, I loved this game. Stealth is the name of the game here and it works well, It makes the game interesting and adds to the intensity. And the cut scenes of executions are great. So to play those GTA games and then play this one and totally enjoy it says alot for this game. I think the graphics and gameplay are good as well. I highly reccomend this game!

once all of those adult news reviewers get word of this!

wow once those reviewers see this they'll prolly do those **** news broadcasts like they did with the GTAs

well, first off I'd like to say the same one line as any other: great game, prolly buy it unless you can't deal with the brutality

I preordered this game and got it two days after it came out, so I've had some time to think out a review.

Storyline:
blah blah, well basically you were captured by "the director" and now you have to do these brutal scenes for him to tape, enjoy, and sell of course.
Now once your done with the director's scenes and fufilled his need for violence, blood, and brutality, he says he'll let you go for another chance.

AN EXAMPLE
Baseball bat(best kill): strangle hunter, then while he is nealing hit him with the baseball bat shatering his head in a graphic scene

also:
Wire: basically strangle him in a way you pull his head off, graphic, and gross :):)
