More like Diablo 2 Meets A Bard's Tale

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 2

Pros: great alchemy system, stackable weapons, weapon variety is excellent.

Cons: repetitive, magic system is borderline horrid, voice acting is simply awful

Overall: it is fun for a single pass as long as you can get through the ghastly character creation feature and initial cutscenes. This could be a good game if there were downloadable expansions, patches, etc. The best way to enjoy it, however is on mute. Also some of the "quests" are disjointed and lack logical flow. This game mimics the bard's tale in the sense they have very similar combat systems, though a bard's tale has far better acting and humor. It mimics Diablo 2 with its use of alchemy and stackable weapons, though this is limited to a single type (diablo 2 could mix things up a bit more). It's a fun game, but not a super game. Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fable *ARE* super games if you need a benchmark. Given that a Bard's tale is currently in the bargain bin, you'd probably be better off buying it simply because it is one heck of a lot more entertaining at least in the short term.

Two steps WAY BACK

I'm an RPG fanatic and enjoy playing practically all of them (even the bad ones). However, poor voice acting/writting, terrible graphics (especially for a 360 game that came out AFTER Oblivion, one of the best RPG's of all time), average combat, and horrendous char system make this game practically unplayable. 4 stats? 1 race? Next Gen RPG? NO! Two Worlds takes RPG's/Gaming two steps WAY back!

Two Worlds, Too Bad

Two Worlds

Two Worlds was something I had waited for. Touted as The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion on steroids, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this; and as most things that get over hyped this one, too, fell on it's face and left a nasty mark.

Pros: There are not many. Character customization is simple. Game play is simple, press the button and bash something. You can create your own weapons by combining two like weapons or adding an item, such a gem, to make the weapon stronger. This also works with clothing (armor), and you can make your own spells by picking ingredients (if you can find them) in the wilderness.

You can not die, well you do, but instead of having to reload a prior save you are instantly "resurrected" at one of the many, many shrines you find along the road.

Cons: Story, if there is one somewhere, is your typical Fantasy fare. You are the heir to a magic thingamabob, only you can use said magic thingamabob, bad guys want magic thingamabob, kidnapped your sister to force you to comply and go get / find magic thingamabob, blah-blah-blah, yawn.

The graphics are sub-par for what one has come to expect from the next-gen consoles. You'd swear you were playing Gauntlet (arcade style graphics) or Baldur's Gate. YIKES! People look melted and backgrounds, although nicely done, tend to be muddy and mush into one big blob of grey-green space indiscernible from one area to another.

There is no tutorial, so to speak, and the on screen text will make you go blind, it is so bad you CAN NOT read it. Legibility is the key to making a game fun for me!

The in game map is as close to useless as one can get, with no text or the same illegibility problem, navigating the rather large world takes some doing.

The voice acting is terrible! I play with MUTE on! I'm sure they tried very very hard and such a valiant effort, but it is difficult to take all the "Forsooth"-ing and "Varlet"-ing when it is used in every sentence, it just kills the game.

A good intention gone horribly awry. Don't waste you time unless you absolutely have to play another RPG or are a glutton or punishment.

give it time, its worth it.

You really have to be patient with this game. I know that is hard to say. I know I like to pick up the controller and just let them have it. I found myself cussing at the tv more then a few times and just when I wished I had not taken the plastic off the game i got the hang of it.
Dont get me wrong, it seems to take a real long time to get anywhere, and I love my money so I feel like i am constantly transporting to sell my loot, but over all its been fun! Being able to have your horse carry an extra 400 pounds is great, even if they dont always go where you want them to. I think if your patient and take the right amount of quests to build up you experience its a game worth playing.I know I have spent my money on way worse games

NOT A NEXT-GEN EXPERIENCE

This game is a sad joke. Control is sloppy, animations are sluggish and the whole thing runs at a frame-rate that should put the developers to shame. The voice actors are appalling and the story is hardly inspired. I can't believe Microsoft even licensed this tripe. What a waste.

Its not Oblivion, but so what, we've already got Oblivion.

I, like many people, thought this was going to be Oblivion with new locations and different creatures. I thought it would be everything Oblivion was and more.
It's not, and maybe because of this I unfairly judged this game when I first booted it up.

The best way I could describe this game is it's like a variant of Guild Wars running on a PC that is slightly under powered, with elements of Diablo and Oblivion peppered through-out.

If you buy this game expecting Oblivion you will be disappointed.
The game is much rougher around the edges than Oblivion. It lacks polish. That said. It's a decent enough game if you enjoy classic dungeon crawlers. The quests are robust and entertaining. The customizing of your character is decent. The landscape is vast and varied. The amount of treasures and items to discover is outrageous.

I only noticed the games short comings the first few hours of play. (Sputtering frame rate, sub-par voice acting) etc... After 12 hours I was completely hooked, the game just kind of grew on me (like the Taint?)I found myself ignoring the technical issues I had with the game, and focusing of the positives (engaging quests, humor, atmosphere) An example: I go in a slaughter a band of bandits. A few hours later I wander by the camp again only now it's night time. Ghouls have invaded the camp and are shuffling among the dead bodies!!! SPOOKY. 30+ hours in and 54 levels later, I can definitely say that the game was worth the purchase.

Stick With It!!!

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge RPG fan, especially one in a fantasy setting. I have played both computer RPGs (Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc..) and console RPGs like Morrowind and Oblivion. I have pretty high expectations when it comes to the quality of games, especially on next-gen consoles. I have been wating for this game since the US release announcement. I Pre-ordered this game as soon as I could. Drove 50 miles to the gamestore to pick it up on the day it released. When I got home I played for 30 minutes, ejected it from my 360, found my receipt, and got ready to return it. But......I decided to give this game another chance (since I would be losing about 30 bucks on the trade-in, and I have to say, it was one of the best "game decisions" I have ever made. I can't put this game down. Although the story is pretty generic, I still can't help but get sucked into it. Once I started getting quests and leveling up my character, things started to really get fun. There is sooo much to do. Right now I am 13 hours in and have only complete a very small portion of the main quest and have only seen about 1/8th of the map. I hate to say it, but I think I like this game better than Oblivion. It reminds me of Neverwinter Nights, without the henchmen. I love the third person view. My advice is just to stick with the game. Make yourself get through the opening cutscence and the terrible voice acting. If you are a fan of fantasy RPG with huge open worlds to travel in, you will eventually love this game. Like I said, within the first few minute, I was following the same line of thinking as all of the bad reviews, but after a couple of hours of playing, this is by far one of the most enjoyable games that I have. Just give a chance, and you will not be disappointed.

Please avoid this, no matter how curious you are.

Please, everyone, just avoid this game. In this day and age we just shouldn't settle for something like this. My quest is: Do you want to suffer through the first couple hours of a game before it 'gets better,' or do you want to play something that is fun from the start? Personally, I would rather play something fun. Even those games which are complicated and take a while to get into tend to be at least enjoyable from the start. If a game takes time to get into there needs to be an incentive to keep playing until it does. With Two Worlds I spent that time staring at my television in dumb shock that something quite this bad had managed to be released in the first place... let alone get a special edition.

Horrible control, frequent hitches and freezes, terrible music and voice acting, unreadable fonts and menus you have to squint to see no matter how nice your television are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problem with this game. (Imagine you can't read the description for your new piece of armor because instructions telling you to press the back button for instructions to navigate the menu are obscuring half of it. Are you going keep a game with a problem like that?) I spent as much time frozen as I did playing the game and this was on a new 360 which has never frozen or even glitched momentarily before and still plays all other games perfectly.

Like many others, I purchased this because I was curious. I saw bad reviews and knew that I often liked games with 'mixed reviews.' The major review sites have, for the most part, said the game is good. (I really do wonder if they are playing the same thing.) I did not want and was not expecting Oblivion. That is why I am writing this now. Do not buy this game. If you simply must try it, PLEASE find some way to rent it first. Also, if you played the PC version and liked it okay, please get the PC version. It is better than the 360 one, which is abysmal. I tried to enjoy this game, I kept putting it back in the 360 hoping I could squeeze an itty bitty amount of fun out of my special edition. Alas, it was impossible.

If only I had never opened the box so I could get my money back. I would feel guilty reselling it. (If nothing else I have said has convinced you not to buy the game!) Admittedly, this has some of the best extras I've seen in a special edition in a long time. Too bad they come with such an awful game.

Worst 360 Game Hands down.

First of all i'm not going to try and compare this game to Oblivion because as far as i'm concerned it doesn't hold a candle to it. This Game has graphics that are worse then current gen games. It baffles me that such a ugly game can have such horrible frame rate. The blood effects resemble something from a genesis or snes game. Horrible voice acting that doesn't even sync up correctly with the lips movement. This game proves that if it isn't well known or hyped up it probably won't be any good.

MUST BE A TRUE RPG FAN TO APPRECIATE TWO WORLDS

Ok this game takes paitience.. Once you get past the first hour of learning, the game becomes really fun. Although I would not recommend this to anyone who just dabbles in RPG. As for the likeness of Oblivion , there is not much other then some names. But just to let you know the Names Mages guild, Dark Brotherhood, have been used way before Oblivion, I would say Two worlds is more like Morrowind then Oblivion. I consider Oblivion more action adventure rpg, then just rpg anyway.. If you need to see Oblivions roots Play Morrowind.. To finalize i would only get this if you truly understand RPG games.
