I have played this game!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 19 / 20

This game is a mix of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Extermination.

Examples:
Controls are just like Silent Hill 2.
Cammera shots are like Resident Evil (viewpoints are fixed)
Inventory System is like Resident Evil.
Health display is taken from Extermination. (Infections and damage are shown on the body in the inventory screen with differnt colors)

Notes:
Pick who you want to play (each has different storyline)
Mulder's game is more action packed than Scully's.
Scully's game is more problem solving.
Game is divided into 3 Episodes: 2 Acts each

Pros:
Detail is great in every aspect of game.
Controls are real easy to learn.
Has DVD-like special features unlocked as you progress
No limit to inventory as you go through each act

Cons:
No Difficult level settings in option menu
Very Dark in certain areas make it hard to see what's going on
No rotating cammera (Resident Evil Similar)

Now if they'd bring back the show it be perfect

Fabulous that they were able to get the stars to agree to do the voices for the Game! This game isn't perfect, but for me it was just what I was looking for in a new game. It had a little Resident Evil(Zombies), Silent Hill (Eerie Surroundings) and then the X-files storyline! After I got used to the controls and what the game was about I was hooked. The main complaint for me was it wasn't longer! If they do a sequel I will have it on preorder as soon as I hear about it.

It has the bit of mystery of the X-files but is basically a combo game with shooting/puzzles and even a few Autopsy's thrown in. They really have a place to go with this game if they choose to.

I know that doesn't answer all your questions about the game, but it's worth trying. If you don't want to buy it check it out at your rental store.

Fun and exciting RPG!

I love the X-Files and stumbled across this game fairly recently. I was surprised that I had not heard of it sooner as I am a huge fan of the show and this genre of videogames. The plot is very enticing and not only provided an excellent adventure, but also fulfilled my craving for something related to this wonderful show so long after its completion.

The graphics, although not the best found on the PS2 console, were very life-like and visually stimulating. It was amazing how close the characters actually resembled Scully and Mulder. The cutscenes were created with such care and they greatly succeeded in drawing the player deeper into the story. Not only were the actual voices of Mulder and Scully used... even their mannerisms and movements were executed precisely and featured throughout the game!

The plot was original and reminded me very much of an actual episode! As you control Scully and/or Mulder, it is your job to uncover the events that have taken place by gathering as many clues and items as possible in order to lead you down the correct path to figuring everything out. The story is separated into three acts and each uncovers a new perspective to lead the audience to the greater truth. You will definitely be surprised how this story unfolds and morphs from one hypothesis to another!

The gameplay is very exciting and provides the player with a challenging experience. The controls are very straightforward and never once become cumbersome or confusing. Actions such as running, using items and firing weapons become second nature with very little to no practice at all! With each act, the level of difficulty increases and requires much more from the player; enemies become stronger, puzzles become more intricate, boss-fights become even more exceedingly difficult.

I found two aspects of the game very unique and entertaining: The first being the excess amount of field notes taken both by Mulder and Scully. Through these, the audience can utilize pieces of information and fill in details of the story to gain a better understanding and greater insight into the overall plot. No other game has successfully accomplished this integration of notes to accentuate the story beyond what is seen, spoken and/or experienced. The other aspect that added a new element is Scully's ability to perform autopsies and create antidotes. Here, we can learn more about what exactly is going on biologically (on top of the story that has been revealed thus far) and create items that aid significantly in regards to health and combat.

I very much enjoyed playing this game and highly recommend it to anyone who loves X-Files. If you like adventure, rpg, survival horror and/or sci-fi games, this one should make its way into your collection as you will not be disappointed!

Surprisingly good, a must play for X-Files fans

Though it suffered a number of release delays and with the dreaded fact that it is a licensed video game, The X-Files: Resist or Serve is a surprisingly good game, even though it draws many comparisons to various Resident Evil games because of it's presentation. While it suffers from graphical glitches and a few gameplay and control issues, Resist or Serve still shines thanks to it's mix of survival horror and puzzle elements. Playing as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully; you investigate a series of bizarre and brutal murders in the town of Red Falls, Colorado. The game's story is written by veteran X-Files show writers, so the game's story plays out much like the lost episode that it is claimed to be. Mulder's story is more action oriented as you take on hordes of zombie-ish creatures, while Scully's story is puzzle oriented as you combine various toxins and perform autopsies. The puzzle elements are a nice diversion than the usual "find the key to open the door" type puzzles that are populated throughout other games of the genre, and that alone is refreshing. The character models of Mulder, Scully, A.D. Skinner, the Lone Gunmen, Alex Krycek, and the Cancer Man are nicely rendered so that each character resembles their series counterpart, but the character movement comes off as wooden. The sound of the game is where Resist or Serve shines as each actor reprises their role (thats right, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are on board as Mulder and Scully) and the music recycles various episode scores and sounds brilliant. All in all, The X-Files: Resist or Serve is a surprisingly good game that any and every X-Files fan should check out.

I am really looking foward to this game. It looks like the Sierra is working really hard on making this game a success. Look at the things going for it; The game is based on a 3 episode script penned by a writer who worked on the series, It takes place during season 7 (how convienent since the DVD's are coming out in May), David and Gillian and the rest of the cast have voiced the game, You finally get to play as either Mulder or Scully, and you finally get your hands dirty and perform autopsies! HOW COOL IS THAT!
I enjoyed playing the first X-Files game on the PS one system, but once I was done with it there was no desire to play it again. It had no replay value. The developers are saying that this game will have 15-19 hours of playing time. With the ablility to play as either Mulder or Scully there will be more replay value.
I think this game will be a must have for fans and it will appeal to gamers who enjoy survival Horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. So for those X-Philers who don't have a PS2 or XBox, you should either consider getting one or make plans to confiscate your friends game systems because "The Truth" will be out there this summer!

AWESOME

Yes this game is based on the resident evil game engine but that is where it ends right there! The game is awesome to the detail that if you play as Scully you can investigate fully, pick up items and find clues or do autopsies on bodys and find more clues, the flashlight comes in handy also in finding clues and adding to the dark atmosphere. Playing as both characters is awesome also as both look pretty darn close to Duchovny and Anderson as possible for a PS2 game! The game is very linear however as most RE games were also which could hurt it for SOME players on the replay end. But as part of the X-Files universe it is one to play again and again to BE Scully and Mulder. The game's controls are great along with the graphics, sounds and the WONDERFUL music, the music fits PERFECTLY just like the show. The only downside to this game is the save option, there isn't one.....you have to find key spots to save and can't just save anywhere but that is the only true downside to this game. So, if you are an X files fan do yourself a favor and buy this and immerse yourself into Scully and Mulder's world.

The X-Files All Over Again

First of all, I am not a huge gamer and am at times horrible at them. However, I am a huge fan of The X-Files TV show and searched all over local video game stores to find a copy of this game. It was worth it. I ended up playing this game for 10 hours. There are some things you should know.

First, this game has been designed with the X-Files fan in mind. They brought in all of the cast members to do voice work. The storyline is engaging, entertaining and is a total mythology episode. There is a lot of animated sequences in this game, where all you can do is sit and watch the story progress. Just like a epsode of the show! The music, theme song, and sound effects are all from the TV show. It's great!

Secondly, while the emphasis was on the fans of the TV show, die hard gamers might get a little annoyed with this game. Playing this game, the camera angles will change on you and of instead of seeing Mulder or Scully's point of view from the back, you see them from the front and your reaction will be to change your direction with the controller. Don't! It is aggravating, but you'll get used to it.

Also, there are many doors that will not open, so your reaction will be to search everywhere for keys, but you should know that not all the doors are meant to be opened. Also, look at Mulder or Scully's notebook frequently to get clues to the game.

Also, and it might not be kosher to say this, but if you get stuck with the game and aren't a big gamer like myself, there are a number of websites with cheat codes and game play hints.

If you go into this game with the idea that it was designed with fans of the TV show in mind, you will have an excellent experience with this game. It's just like the show!

Finally, a move/TV-Show tie in that works!!!!

It's true. Movie/TV-Show tie in games really can work. And this one does perfectly.

From the opening CGI teaser to the X-Files opening credits, you know you are about to play something special.

The best way to describe X-Files - Resist or Serve, is Silent Hill with your favorite TV characters thrown in. But don't let that put you off. The game is scary. I mean, really scary. The music adds an awesome atmosphere to the game and the graphics are impressive.

All the horror, humor and suspense from the series, are included in this game.

The only negative comment I would make on the game is weapon control. I found it hard to shoot at my attackers before they were bearing down on me and biting my neck. But then, I find it hard to have good control when I'm jumping so much and panicking so maybe it's just me.

The game contains two paths that you can take and this is decided by choosing either Mulder or Scully as the character you wish to be. So, you have two games in one.

X-Files fans, you have to have this game.

For those that aren't fans of the series but like scary games such as Silent Hill and the drawn out franchise, Resident Evil, this is definitely one for the collection.

Be warned, I can't put this game down for hours. I just have to keep searching for the truth.

x files resist or serve is better than ever!

This game is the best game I have played. In fact it should be the best game on ps2. of course this is my opinion. Some of the weapons and stuff you get on this game are, a pistol, shotgun, pills for healing life, a flashlight, and some other equipment. If you are a resident evil type fan, then this is the game for you. I would say that everything in this game is great. Especially when the monsters pop out of nowhere. This game is usually hard unlles you knew what was going to happen. This game is tight and cool.(very) if you play this game have a great time. I know I did when I first started. I played from 12:00am to 3:00pm because it was so fun.

X-Philes deserve this...

I am a huge fan of both The X-Files and the video game industry. And when the X-Files: Resist or Serve was announced a few months ago, I was very excited. But eventually, my excitement fell into worrying, and now I really don't care much about the game anymore. But from what I saw in terms of footage of the game made me have even more twisted feeling. the graphics were good, the fighting system seemed good, and the game took place in Colorado, which, living in Colorado, I was thrilled to hear about. In the two minutes of footage that i saw, Scully ran over a zombie on her way into the small town where the game takes place. Then Mulder found her, went to look for help in a nearby diner, and encountered a gruesome zombie-like creature ready to devour him. Sound familiar? I thought so too, being the fan of Resident Evil that I am, and it looked to me like this would just be an X-Files flavored RE ripoff. Actually, I was about half-there. Mulder fights monsters very much the same way Chris Redfield does in RE. In fact, the only thing that kept this from being another RE clone was Scully's role in the game. She really doesn't do much fighting. Instead, she puts on her medical gear and performs autopsies throughout most of the game. The formula seems interesting, but will it work? We'll just have to find out...
After 1998 brought us that other horrid X-Files game, fans like me deserve a great new game featuring the world's most famous T.V. federal agents. I really hope that Resist or Serve is a good game, and with some more production work, it is headed down the good road to victory!
