Unbelievably Addictive!

What an amazing game. I didn't have Guitar Hero 1 but I thought this would be fun so got it. I'm sure glad I did. Well, actually I'm not glad about the fact that this is pretty much the only game I play now!

Guitar Hero 2, apparently, is the same as Guitar Hero 1, so it's easy to figure out. You really should get the guitar controller for twenty bucks extra. It's worth it; you can use the normal PS2 controller but it's awkward-the guitar controller is meant specifically for the game and really easy to use. It's got a whammy bar as well, which you can use to get extra points out of long notes that you can't do with the standard controller.

I think the best part about this game is that it doesn't really have much of a plot, so you spend 95% of the game playing the guitar instead of 70% playing and 30% watching video clips. It has forty songs, which doesn't seem like a lot at first because you can get through EASY in about an hour-and-a-half the first time you play the game. It is though, because you can go on to MEDIUM, HARD, and then the very, very hard EXPERT. On medium, you have to star using your pinkie, then onward from that you have to use the fifth button and figure out how to shift your hand over different sequences. The game lets you practice slowly and play the songs as many times as you want to raise your score and become more smooth, especially during the fast rhythm sections. There's a good variety of songs, from punk to classic rock to newer stuff (like "Woman" by Wolfmother and "Laid to Rest" by Lamb of God). I started figuring out which songs I like the best and now I'll pop in the game when I'm bored and just rock out to the ones I like the best. It gets really hard on expert, but even that's not the end because you can range from three to five stars on your song based upon your song score and raising your star rating takes practice. This game doesn't really have an end, and it's arcade feel is what I like the most about it. Plus, you can buy new guitars and guitar finishes and unlock and play about twenty songs from little-known bands with great guitar parts (check out "Elephant Bones").

What a great game. I can't wait for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock.

I am a 54 mother of 2 grown boys (men, actually) who got me hooked on this game. I have always loved rock music and when they asked me to try it I'm sure they didn't realize they were creating a monster!! It took a little while for me to get the technique down, but I finally did, and actually went out and bought my own copy of it so I can play at my own home. Besides the great songs, the video of the band, arenas/clubs, costumes, etc. rekindle my youthful spirit, taking me back to a more carefree past (well, at least in my head!) Also, I have Parkinsons Disease so I think it helps me work my small motor skills which have been giving me some trouble because of it. But being able to start (and stay...so far) on the "Easy" level has helped, and there are 3 more levels after that. It is a great, addicting, fun, fun, fun, game for children of ALL ages, not just the young 'uns!! ROCK ON!!

7th hour running...

It is 2:49 in the morning and the crowd is begging for an encore. This is currently the seventh hour of playing Guitar hero straight and there is no sign of stopping. Normally sequels fall short of the original, but this one proves all stereotypes wrong. Guitar hero II is nothing short of amazing, and I would recommend anyone who is in question of purchasing this game to stop wasting time, man up, and order this game as soon as possible. WARNING: you will be addicted!

Got wife to play games...FINALLY

I have introduced the wife to so many games over the years, and none have kept her interest. Guitar Hero 2 is the exception! Hearing a few songs, she approached the TV, recalling some of her favorite tunes from back in the day and watched me play the newest game to our collection. Finishing my current song, she demanded the guitar and selected Van Halen "You Really Got Me" to rock. Amplifier cranked, David echoed throughout our house as she jammed, striking chords with ease and wanting to play more!

I highly recommend this game to any rock music fan, Gamer and hubbies/boyfriends trying to get their woman one step closer to playing games.

this is a good game. but after playing guitar hero and reading about this for so long, i was kind of dissappointed.

First the pros:
-the songs are more fun to play. the notes are spread out more and a lot of the songs are much faster than in the first one.(escpecially message in a bottle)
-the multiplayer co op mode(obviously)
-characters now have optional clothing
-more extras, and theyre available on all difficulties in career. you dont have to buy charactors and guitars in every difficulty like you did in the first one. a purchased guitar or charactor is availabe all the time no matter where you buy it
-pro face off. in this mode both players that face off play the same notes
-encore sequences add a little extra stuff to the game, like commedy and just cool scenes

now the cons:
-the songs aren't as memorable, so you can't just wail out the words the first time or ten you play. i only knew about ten of the songs real good
-the grim ripper looks totally stupid. his head is cool, but that's about it
-the songs don't progress in difficulty that much. i actually did better on the last few sets of songs than the first. also, the songs are fairly easier than they were on GH. i still have only 3 stars on the last set of songs on GH, but i got two 5s, two 4s and one 3 on the whole last section.
-instead of making the songs harder, they really just get longer as you progress.

and that's about it. i haven't found the need to use practice mode yet so i can't really say anything about it. it's a great game despite my personal problems with it. i recommend it and will continue to play it, even though "freebird" sucks

Ok my 50 year old husband is now rocking and seranading me with a plastic guitar! We are having a great time with our family gift and it has been rated by my family as one of the TOP gifts for the entire year! :) if you don't have any musical instrument experience (like us) this is a BLAST! I am sure you "seasoned musicians" out there may find this great fun as well. This item is a MUST HAVE if you are a playstation owner! We got the Red Octane Dance Mat last year and this is just as much fun!

I gave this to my daughter for Christmas and couldn't stop playing it myself. Make sure you have enough room on your memory card or buy a new one if you give it as a gift. You'll need it as you move on in the game. Great fun!!!!

You can be a Guitar Hero 2!

Guitar Hero 2's allure is a combination of the guitar-shaped controller combined with the rock soundtrack. It also can appeal to those that are familiar with the music or people who've never heard of Primus or "Free Bird". Don't worry. The game doesn't actually require you to know guitar. Know how to play air guitar? You've got the skills.

The single player Career mode is fun in itself, but the multiplayer aspect is where the game really shines (which requires another guitar controller. Though a regular PS2 controller will work it's not nearly as satisfying). It's much like the Wii in the sense that almost anyone can pick it up and play. And keep them entertained. Great for parties though it's unfortunately limited to two players at a time.

A challenging Career mode with Hard and Expert modes along with earning cash that you can use to unlock character, guitars, songs, etc. Different multiplayer modes. The fun of rockin' out with your buddies. This game comes highly recommended.

My 26 year old grandson had more fun with this than the younger children.
He is an avid game player.
