I am a **47 year old** adult and am addicted to this game! I just knew I would not enjoy it as much as anything to do with Mario and, boy, was I was surprised! My 12 year old and I argue over whose turn it is to play. Buy a second memory card and set up two different villages with different characters. You can travel back and forth and visit and work and shop. After a hard day at work, I actually find this game to be very relaxing.

Got to add this one to your GameCube Collection!

Ok, I read all the reviews in Nintendo Power before I bought it and it really got me interested. Then it came on sale with a free memory card and the free players guide. Which really is a must to know what this game is all about and tips on special days you need to be playing on. I can't wait for Halloween! You get lots of new neighbors every few days and picking up shells, fishing and bug catching is lots of fun. Don't forget to shake trees! Send gifts in your letters and you might get a gift in return. I have the basement now and I have all my clothes and umbrella's displayed there (you get alot of clothes!) It is much more fun when you have upgraded your house to put all your stuff in. I had a little bit of a hard time writing letters at first, I got a lot of mean letters back saying they couldn't understand me. So be sure to type normal and not run your words over to the next line. Also, this is the big kicker..... you CAN set the clock! I didn't play all week and when I played on Saturday I started back on past Monday's date and kept changing the clock until I was actually on the same date of Saturday. That part makes it much more fun instead of playing "actual time" every day. You can progress through the game much faster. I did learn my lesson when the power went out on me! I lost all my data since my last save. So I would suggest saving the game every now and then. Plus the mean old Mole dude comes out and gives you a lickin for resetting! If you couldn't change the clock each time, I would be bored with the game, but this feature lets me play a whole week over the weekend. And there is LOTS to do in a week.

Based On What I've Seen and Been Told...

Animal Crossing (Called Animal Villiage in Japan) Is what you might call an RPG. The only Game that resembles anything like it is any title in the Harvest Moon Series. In Animal Villiage, you create a name for a town and for yourself, and you move into that town, already occupied by several animals with human traits. You get to pick one of four vacant houses (Leaving, of course, three left) and you basically go on with daily life in a villiage with many things to do, buy, and say. (You can write letters too.) Although this is fun, the coolest part of this game is that you can have more than one human player live in one town. The new player moves into one of the town's vacant houses and can do, buy, and say everything that the other players do. (Max: 4 Players in one town) This is even cooler. If you have a friend who has saved a town onto a memory card, you can visit their town and in the process, animals from the other town might move to yours, or vice versa. This is truly an amazing game. Buy it as soon as it comes out, You'll Love It!

ADDICTIVE!

My little brother owns nearly every gaming system possible...while at my mom's house one day I decided I was going to play one of his games out of boredom...Animal Crossing just happened to be in his gamecube so I gave it a try! Talk about an addictive game!! You get to name your town and pick which house you want to live in out of 4 that are for sale...then you work at the local store to pay off your debt...after it's paid off you can continue expanding your house by taking out loan's from the store owner...however you do have to find other ways to make money b/c you only work for him to pay off the initial house debt...but you can go around and interact with all of the animals that live in the town...if you do work for them they will give you items in return if you don't want them you can sell them and make money...since it is on a real time clock they have holidays and the seasons change...they even have community events that you can get involved in...for example everyone gathers for the harvest moon and this summer they had an aerobics class for a couple of weeks...it's just a fun game...I would highly recommend it to people of all ages...AWESOME!!!

THIS GAME IS AWESOME!

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING... ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT THE SIMS THAT WILL SOON DROP DEAD LIKE THE OTHERS. HOWEVER, THIS GAME IS AN EXCEPTION. THE GRAPHICS AREN'T AMAZING, AND THE PLOT IS QUITE SIMPLE, BUT THIS GAME TAKES GAMERS TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. YOU CAN DO SO MANY THINGS IN THE WORLD THAT IT TAKES HOURS JUST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT EVERYTHING DOES. THE CLOCK GOES NY IN REAL-LIFE SPEED, SO IN THE MORNING IT'S MORNING, AT 1:00 IT'S 1:00 AND SO ON, WHICH IS GOOD EXCEPT THAT AT MIDNIGHT EVERYONE IS ASLEEP SO YOU CAN'T DO MUCH. HERE IS A BASIC OVERVIEW:

GRAPHICS: NOT REALLY MUCH HERE, EXCEPT FOR THE FACTS THAT WHEN IT'S WINTER THE SNOW IS FALLING AND YOU LEAVE SHOE-PRINTS. THE DETAIL IS LOW IN THOUGHT, BUT A LOT OF THE LAND IS INTERACTIVE WITH WERE THE PLAYER IS

PLOT: A LOT LIKE OTHER GAMES SUCH AS THE SIMS, YOU ARE A NEW RESIDENT IN A TOWN (IN THIS CASE A TOWN CALLED ANIMAL CROSSING) I WHICH YOU GAIN MONEY, MAKE FREINDS AND, WELL... LIVE YOUR LIFE. YOU CHOSE DECORATIONS FOR YOUR HOUSE, FURNITURE AND CUSTOMIZE ALMOST EVERYTHING TO HAVE BE THE WAY YOU SEE FIT

MAP: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FEATURES OF THE GAME. YOU LIVE A WHOLE TOWN WITH HOMES, STORE, LANDFILL, POLICE STATION, TRAIN STATION, WISHING WELL, MUSEUM, AND A LIGHTHOUSE. THE MAP ALSO INCLUDES A RIVER RUNNING THROUGH THE MIDDLE WHICH ENDS UP IN THE SEA.

OTHER: YOU CAN BUY A NUMBER OF ITEMS LIKE THE SHOVEL, FISHING ROD, BUG NET, AND AX THAT ALLOW ANOTHER HUGE NUMBER OF POSSIBILITIES TO INTERACT WITH THE LANDSCAPE. DIG HOLES, CUT DOWN TREES, CATCH FISH AND BUGS WHICH CAN BE DONATED TO THE MUSEUM, OR SOLD FOR MONEY AT THE STORE AND MANY OTHER THINGS.

YOU GOT TO GET IT!!!

This game is so entertaining with hours and hours of family fun. My 8 year old daughter and I actually time ourselves to take turns! It is like the computer game The Sims except it is a community of cute little animals. You start off moving to this town where you have to buy a house and work doing various things from working in a store called Nooks Cranny to helping the other villagers to earn money to pay for your house and the accessories for the house. Once you get your house paid for you can renovate. You can plant trees and flowers, catch insects and dig for treasures. The game actually keeps the time and date and goes through the different seasons. Each day there are new things in the store to buy and more apples to pick to sell. This game is such a must!! It is so addictive that I have to make myself put the controller down and it such a great buy it comes with its own memory card so that you can trade your card with a friend and visit their town. If you don't buy any other game YOU HAVE TO GET THIS---ITS A MUST FOR KIDS AND ADULTS ALIKE!!!!

Horribly Addictive,Fun and Submerging!

Luckily, I had receieved this Gamecube treasure as an early Christmas present,so I had more time to play around with it than if I had gotten it on Christmas. At first when I saw the cover of the game,it didn't attract me.It looked suitible for the "little kid gamer" population.I tried it out and was hooked.

Animal Crossing is almost a sort of roleplaying game with no set "winning condition",it's entirely unique. The main purpose is that you,the human traveling away from home to live on your own, meet the citizens of your town (all adorable little animals),furnish your home, help keep the town looking good, and so much more.Every day something new happens,be it something new to buy, another critter moving to your town or even a holiday.Holiday? The game moves in real time.So if it's 2:30 on January 8th 2005,it will be 2:30 on January 8th 2005 in the game. This is a really cool feature,as the sun even sets and rises!

I could see this game working well for younger childern (5-10) and also adolecents (11-14).It manages to provide a fun, bright environment while still containing "real-life" aspects, like manages your "bells",the currency of your town.

I strongly recommend this game for anyone who wants a HIGHLY interactive game with no real rhythem to how you play.Animal Crossing is a jewel in the many Gamecube games out there, see for yourself! ;)

Great family entertainment

My kids are 5 and 7 and we have had a ball with this game. The animal characters are cute and varied and their interactions and "missions" are fun. The seasons, weather and time of day change as you play. Even the moods of the characters are different each time you wander through. It's really designed for readers, but with some help my 5 year old can navigate his little guy around the neighborhood and accomplish the tasks. The only small foible is that the game can only be saved after about 20-30 minutes of play time during the introductory sequence, so be sure the first time you sit down with it for each player you allow enough time or you'll have to start over from scratch. Also, while you can have up to four characters "open" in the little town, as far as I know, only one player can actually play at a time. This game came with it's own memory card, which is very nice, as one is absolutely necessary.

p.s. I find myself playing it even when the kids aren't around... yikes. It can get addictive. :)

It is different, to be sure...

...and I believe that the reviewer below summarizes it quite nicely. No, the graphics aren't spectacular. No, there is no great overarching plot. Yes, the entire game is confined into 30 townsquares (numbered from A-1 to F-6). However, Animal Crossing will continue to bring you back over and over again.

When I first put the game into the console, I was disappointed. Run errands for townspeople to pay off a loan? Boring. Write letters and send presents to my animal friends? Inane. Catch fish and insects as they appear? Well, all right, this seemed like a lot of fun, but who had the patience to wait a year to catch a total of 40 insects? Or fill a museum? Or build a savings account which could be used for nothing? Or collect furniture, clothing, wallpaper, and flooring? Or wait around at certain times of the day/week/month/year for special events?

And then, I was hooked.

I mean, that Totakeke guy only appears on Saturday night, and if I miss him, I'll have to wait another week to get a song! And hey, if I run an errand for one of my neighbors, maybe, just MAYBE I can get an old NES game for my trouble (my collection is up to 10 now)! And when does that black marketeer Crazy Redd come back to town? I mean some of his stuff is so rare it won't show up at my little town store, which I've actually seen improved to a thriving megastore! And the list goes on.

And the best part is that you can put as much or as little time in as you want, and still see the reward for your work. No, you may not buid your savings account to the staggering amount of 999,999,999 (which is required to get one of the rarer items in the game), but you don't have to. In fact, a greater reward is received when you play every day for about fifteen minutes as opposed to once or twice a month for 15 hours.

I am sad that my review will not do this little jewel justice. The fact is, this is a highly fun game that works around your schedule, as long as you'll work around its schedule. I would certainly recommend it to anyone, particularly at 20 bucks. You won't be disappointed.

It's just like your life, only cuter.

It's probably safe to say that if you enjoyed games like "Harvest Moon," you'll probably enjoy "Animal Crossing." The "talking" or "relationship" aspect of "Harvest Moon" is not secondary in this game, rather, it is your primary objective. "Animal Crossing" is, in a way, a sugar-coated version of Max Weber's "The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism"... with a bug net, a shovel, and a fishing pole. The game is rather quaint--you move to town, you get a really shoddy little house, and you start to make your way up in the community. As you progress, you quickly learn how to best manage your time to make money and improve the town. Kindness to others is rewarded with money, furniture (my favorite aspect of the game--decorating) and clothing. In essence, as you make friends and run errands, your village embraces you and propells you forward.

I am absolutely in love with this game. I play every day--I can't wait to get my fake mail or check out what's for sale at the fake store. I love dressing the little "fake me," and decorating her quickly-growing home. This game is relaxing without losing any of its challenges. There are secrets and things to look forward to each and every time you play. I recommend, if you have a GameBoy Advance, investing in a GameBoy Advance-to-GameCube connector cable. There are a few special features to the game that you can only access if you connect your GBA up to your GC.

I have been looking forward to this title for quite some time and I must say that it exceeded all of my expectations. It is a game that you can play continuously, one that is always changing and expanding. How many other titles can live up to that claim? If you want a great and innovative little title, you should pick up "Animal Crossing."
