Buffy Rocks

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

This game rocked. The storyline was great, the graphics were fantastic and the gameplay was fast, fluid and unrelenting. Getting the combinations and moves was easy and didn't take any time at all and the Reaper is the ultimate weapon, especially with the Wing attached to it. I had some issues on the ability to save games in certain spots and not where it dictated. Often, you would get a long way through a level and end up dying and having to start all over again from the beginning. This got frustrating, especially in the Master's lair in the old Church and on the docks. I had to play through those 20 times to finally get through. That was my only quibble. It's never a dull moment and the fighting sequences were fantastic and the controls were easy to use. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes Buffy or doesn't. It still is a great game.

I purchased the video game for my son who is a Buffy Fan. He thinks that the game is a lot of fun. There's a lot of action and he can play it all day . Even his older sister (who thinks everything he does is not cool) is addicted to the game. That's the only time they can be in the same room without any complaints. (YEAH FOR THE GAME!!!!)

fun!

I wasn't expecting much when I bought this game. Most games made for TV shows or movies are usually made with only one intent in mind- to capitalize on the success of the show or movie (read: milk more $$ from the cow).

I'm a pretty avid gamer, but I'm not hardcore. If I can't figure something out within an hour, I'll give up. If I've played for a few days and haven't made it at least 1/4 of the way through the game, I'll give up. I'm very picky when it comes to my games. It needs to be easy enough for me (so I don't destroy things out of frustration), still challenging (so I don't feel like an idiot), interesting (so my attention is kept), and fun!

This game was, to put it in the vernacular, mad fun. I definitely give kudos and props to the developers. This game may have been made to capitalize on the success of Buffy, but gosh darn, consider me capitalized! Anybody who is an appreciator or fan of the series will derive the most enjoyment from this game. I've been a 'casual fan.' I don't set my VCR every week for Buffy and I miss out on chunks of seasons at a time, but I'm familiar with the characters and plot.

This game let me live out my 'I wanna be a slayer' fantasy. With over 50 fighting combinations, an arsenol of weapons, a plethora of items, it doesn't get boring. Some may complain that the game was too straightforward, but I say that's a blessing to the non-hardcore gamers! I've got better things to do than agonize over a game, and quite frankly I'd rather pick belly lint than play a sequence over and over to figure out what I need to do to advance to the next level. This game was not boring or too easy, though. It struck a nice balance between being interestingly fun and too hard (meaning, monotonously boring).

Gameplay is fantastic. I had no problems with pathing. The fighting is fun; you get to unlock "slayer moves" which are much more powerful than regular combat moves. I usually hate the combinations for special moves in most games, as they involve red button + green button + left + right + down + left trigger + your left nostril... you get the point. Surprisingly, though, even little old me with my genetic aversion to combination moves got them down pretty easily. Aside from combat, you get a bunch of nifty weapons. You get a crossbow, stakes, a cool looking blade called the reaper (plus its upgrades), and you can pick up garden tools like rakes and shovels to use. Hey, you even get a supersoaker that can load up on holy water!

The graphics are excellent, although they're nothing revolutionary. They did lend to the atmosphere, though, and completely fit the feel of the show.

Next up to discuss is the sound. Creepy music- check. Actual cast lending their voices- check, except for Sarah Michelle Gellar. Witty quip coming from Buffy during every battle- check. The music fit the graphics well, and paired together in a way that totally created the classic, creepy Buffy atmosphere. They have a Sarah Michelle Gellar sound-alike doing the sounds for Buffy, and at first I could distinctly hear the difference. It turned me off, but after an hour or two of gameplay, I became oblivious to it. The voice actor they got for Buffy really had SMG's inflection and intonation down.

Some people have complained that Buffy's remarks get repetitive. I admit that at times, she'll say the same thing over and over while engaging or fighting an enemy, but I don't agree it's annoying. I've played other games that have done this. I played Neverwinter Nights (which I loved, regardless), and the character exclamations there were much more deserving of the label "annoying." Plus, this is Buffy! She's famous amongst viewers for always having something to say to enemies. And considering they can't have the game-Buffy say something different to every enemy that runs along, I'd don't mind the repetition since it's just staying true to the character of Buffy.

If you get this game, make sure you surf around and copy down the cheat codes for unlocking the arenas and multiplayer functions. Unlocking the arenas isn't really a cheat, but you'll find it if you search for "cheat codes." By doing so, you unlock 4 arenas where you get to fight bosses, mini-bosses and some general enemies and duke it out gladiator style (thus they're called 'arenas'). You can also multiplayer with a partner in the arena. I've had a few laughs and giggles duking it out with my husband playing Buffy while he played Dark Buffy.

All in all, if you're an afficienado or just a casual viewer, you shouldn't be disappointed. This game isn't anything revolutionary, but it sells because it's just good old fashioned vampire slaying fun.

Buffy as good on game as on t.v.

I'm not a game player, but turned into one when I got this game for Christmas as well as a new Xbox system.
The graphics are pretty good, and the dialouge supplied by the actual characters on the show brings in some humor.
The game itself has a great story involving lots of characters you already know if you watch the show, and some interesting monsters/demons I've never seen before.
The first time I played it, I sat there for three hours straight, I couldn't put it down.
If you are a fan of the show, I suggest you get this game. Even if you've never seen the show, get the game. Lots of story and puzzles to go through during the game, and the butt kicking action and fighting make it fun.

It was cool until

This is the best game since Halo and Morrowind. The graphics are superb and the storyline is awesome. The actors/actresses all do a great job, it's just like watching an episode of Buffy. The fighting engine is great and the camera doesn't cause too much trouble. A must for all BtVS fans.

This game looks sweet and I can't wait for it to come out, but I can't help but wonder, who's had the chance to play it, seeing as it hasn't come out yet? How do you know it has a great soundtrack and sweet gameplay? Are you the developer giving insights or just someone who's confused about what game their reviewing? June 28th is a long time for me to wait, but I'll be pumped and ready to play as soon as it gets on the shelf!
