great survival horror sequel

If you envy Resident Evil: Code Veronica envy? Don't worry about it, although the Dreamcast has Resident Evil: Code Veronica with it's flashy graphics and all, the game isn't due for quite some time I think. Although the PSX may not have DC's graphical capabilities they are still not bad, considering the DC is 128 bit, and the PS is only 32 bit. RE3 has some of the best looking graphics the PSX has ever rendered. The FMVs are perfectly compressed and they look better than those found in Final Fantasy 8. The game still uses pre-rendered backgrounds like all the other Resident Evils as if it was a ritual. The character detail is fantastically smooth and the main character Jill is very nicely detailed. She is complete with some of the finest looking skin touch ups any RE game has had. As for the frame rate, it always stays perfect and doesn't drop at all.

Although some people might say "been there shot that" to RE3, they should still play it due to the new challenging puzzles the game has to offer. The weirdest thing in the game is that it's more of a prequel than a sequel. The game takes place 24 hours before the 2nd Resident Evil. It starts out with zombies attacking RPD members and ends up with all of the RPD officers dead, while there are still tons of zombies on the loose. You will eventually meet up with Barry from the first RE too. Now for those of you who find the Resident Evil series a little too hard, you'll be happy to know that when starting Resident Evil 3 and picking easy mode, you start out with an unlimited number of Ink Ribbons, and a hefty amount of ammo. You just have to get in the office room at the very beginning of the game. You will also come across some very familiar places in RE 3. Like the RPD conference room in RE2, and the RPD station it's self. Believe me this is by far one of the finest moments of the PSX, and is the best Resident Evil game ever (even better than Code Veronica for the DC). The game also features tons of dialogue, which most of takes place during an FMV sequence. Your main goal is to stop Nemesis who is basically the granddaddy of all the Zombies.

The game has admirable voice acting to make the gaming experience feel better. It's voice acting is usually done correctly being very precise and on time so don't expect voice acting timing like in Silent Hill. You'll experience some great sounding explosions, and the gun shots sound unbelievably real. If you turn up the volume and play with the volume set on very high, when a zombie pops out you will probably need a diaper change, but you will get retribution by blasting his head of and hearing the clarity of sound effects.

Those of you who have played the first 2 games (Director's Cut excluded) will already be very familiar with the controls. But those of you (all three of you) who haven't, will have a little difficulty with adjusting to the controls. Me on the other hand, I'm a huge fan of the series and I know the basic layout. But don't worry about it, you'll have time to practice your controls in the beginning.

Wrapping up this review I can say that Resident Evil 3 is not only the best of the series but it is also one of the best PSX titles out there today along with the top quality titles like Final Fantasy 8, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Syphon Filter.

Monsters, horror, bloodshed, mystery, ACTION!

Although I have yet to finish the game, I have played it enough to recommend it to anyone who loves horror movies or just a challenging mystery. Jill Valentine (or Carlos if you so choose) has to battle through the monster clogged debris of Racoon City, avoid the nearly indestructible Nemesis, and solve the mystery of what has happened. Oh yeah, and surviving it all would be nice. Doing so is thrilling and addictive fun. The graphics and sound are topnotch and the suspense level quite high. Usually I consider video games to be an utter waste of my valuable time, not so here. This is time well spent, especially if you love all things horror. Highest recommendation.

More weapons more strategy and more charaters more more more

I played this game for the first time ever at my cousins house and it was great. but i cannot decide which is better resident 2 or 3. There are different reasons why i go back and forth between the 2.
Resident Evil 2
* music is better in resident evil 2
* better and more puzzles that challenge your mind
* no bad words for the kids
* Challenging zombies
* also have more gameplay modes like both characters have scenarios A and B.
Resident evil 3 nemesis
* more guns and ammo including (M4,9mm,shotgun,and tons of ammo)
* harder monster nemesis unlike william birkins monster you can choose to fight or run.
*less saving options cant save as easily or as frequently as resident evil 2
* less challenging zombies usually dont reach you at least in the beginning and puzzles are easier
* easy gameplay (a 5 year old could play it)

As i said both are very good games

THIS GAME IS OVER BEFORE YOU CAN ENJOY IT!

FIRST OF ALL THIS GAME IS FAR INFERIOR TO THE FIRST 2 INSTALLMENTS, IT IS SO EASY THAT I BEAT IT THE SAME DAY I BOUGHT IT. THE GRAPHICS HAVE NOT IMPROVED AT ALL FROM RE2 AND THE STORY LINE IS SHORT AND INCONCLUSIVE. THE CREATORS HAVE ALSO RAN OUT OF IDEAS FOR NEW WEAPONS, SO JILL VALENTINE HAS THE SAME WEAPONS SHE HAD IN THE FIRST GAME. I THOUGHT SEQUALS WERE SUSPOSED TO BE ABOUT PROGRESS, THIS GAME PLAYS MORE LIKE REGRESSION. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESIDENT EVIL 2 AND RESIDENT EVIL 2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESIDENT EVIL 3. THERE IS LESS VIOLENCE IN THIS GAME! THE MERCENARY MISSION IS SHORT AND THE REWARDS ARE NOT NEW TO THE RESIDENT EVIL WORLD (IE. GATLING GUN, ROCKET LAUNCHER) AND THE NEMISIS IS SIMPLY A SLIGHTLY MORE PERSISTENT VERSION OF THE TYRANT (TYRANT MEETS SCICCORMAN). IF YOU ENJOYED THIS GAME THAN YOU MUST NOT HAVE PLAYED THE FIRST TWO. THIS SERIES HAS LOST ITS IMPACT.

Excellent game

re3 is a great game with the best graphics seen in a resident evil game.however, there are a few flaws that the game has compared to re2 that i would like to point out. first of all the fmv sequnces are not up to par with re2s in my opinion. this may not seem like a reason to comlain but the fmvs greatly set the mood for a game.second, the game is only on one disk.with the game on only one disk, the game obviously doesnt have as much replay value as re2.there also seems to be only two endings which in my opinion are basically the same thing with the exception that in one of them the helicopter is flown by somebody else.it seemed like re2 just has a slight edge over re3.these flaws however, don't make re3 a crappy game. in fact re3 is an excellent game. its fun to play and is quite frankly awesome.i recommend this game to everyone for it makes a great add on to anyones collection of games.the bottom line is to just by this game.its definitley worth it

i liked it.Why you ask?because its got a Five star rating of graphics, better monsters and faster, better weapon categorys, better background and longer than res2.you can play as Regina from Dino Crisis but you can get her easier with the gameshark.its got cool sounds and another thing aboput it the music switches when the tyrant is NEAR.He Has Alot of Tricks up his sleeve.hard to defeat.Try Operation Mad Jackal For More Weapons you have to unlock it first though. i dont know what weapons you get i never got that far.it's mainly the #1 Rating gAME FOR PLAYSTATION IN 1999-2000! its just #1 THATS why it rocks.alright now if anyone says its bad...they've never played it.but its got a few bad angles of when you V.S. the tyrant and its hard to shoot with right aiming.ill level with you though.on some bosses use the Spark Shock Gun or whatever it is itll give em a shock.my advice go ahead and get it.go on go on go get it for christmas or something.

It was just....OK

I like Resident Evil just as much as the next guy, but this one is more of a side story than another game. You visit many places that you visited in R.E.2 and a few new ones. I can't say this one was a scary as the first two, but it will make you jump every now and then. Overall an okay game, but wait for Resident Evil: Code Veronica on Dreamcast for a true sequel!

Eh?

Back in 1996, Capcom introduced both Japanese and Americans gamers a brand-new world of videogaming. Despite the rather awkward name of "Resident Evil", which is just plain out laughable, the title has become a household name. This movie-like, horror series can be written down as a new genre of gaming, horror. Yeah, very few games caused gamers to devastatingly sob (Aeries' funeral in Final Fantasy VII), some games built mystery or suspense (Gray Fox's desperate attack and impressive dialogue in Metal Gear Solid), but Resident Evil led the player to leap in fright or frantically jitter. Capcom inserted blood-thirsty zombies as the adversary, and the player's fear as the biggest opposition. In a sense, it is a movie. Useless to say, Resident Evil was among the titanic series that landed on the Sony PlayStation. The original game presented an amazing surface. However it suffered from terrible voice acting and a somewhat dull story. Capcom extremely went hard at work for their sequel. Powerful hype erupted when Resident Evil 2 was announced. Anxious gamers couldn't wait to get their grubby paws on a copy. Resident Evil 2 altered the gaming industry. Other home console companies decided to cash in while the genre was sizzling hot. Konami cashed in with Silent Hill. Survival/Adventure games went mainstream. After RE2 respectfully lived, a third installment was introduced, this time hype was scarce. It came out too quickly and sources claimed the interface was going to be identical as the other two. Fearing the worst, the third installment seemed to be a horrible move for Capcom. And is. From the experience of the two Resident Evil games, the player may expect the "scare moments." While playing on a big screen t.v., with surround sound, the volume almost reverberating the room, and a sudden pack of grunting zombies crashing out a window, I felt no fear. Amateurs to the Resident Evil series may have a chill ride their spine, but original fans will expect each scare attempt. Though few changes have been added, RE3 fails to take a leap over the original Resident Evil 2. In other words just imagine playing Resident Evil 2 but with more rooms and more puzzle solving. RE2 is the strongest and most remembered in the series. When catching a glimpse of RE3, excitement was absent. RE3 seems it brought the entire series in shame. The story must take a new direction! Like taking a role of an umbrella agent, or the T-Virus spreading somewhere else than Racoon City. Nemesis, a ferocious, mean, bazooka- equipped devil who hunts the player, proves to be a pathetic antagonist and challenge. The minigames granted after beating the game bring little life at the game's abrupt end. The slogan, "if the Suspense doesn't kill you, then something else will," lives truly in the second game.

Nemesis Rules!

Capcom has done it again! They have created yet another in the never-ending series of survival horror! This game is the coolest! If you have played RE 2 you will wonder what happened to Marvin: the black cop. Or, Brad Vickers and how he turned into a zombie. It shows it right smack dab in front of your nose in a nice movie scene! Plus, you get to explore more of Raccoon: Not just streets, The R.P.D., the Sewers, and the Laboratory.

In Nemesis you can go to streets, alleyways, the R.P.D., Sewers, Graveyard, Hospital, Clocktower, Park, and many other places. You play as Jill Valentine from RE 1 and switch off to Carlos in the clocktower. There are 9 decsions to make int he game when either the nemesis appears or something in the game gives out. This game is full of suprises that will make you ............. and lose breath. It is truley 1 of the keepsakes in this series of survival horror!

My thoughts on the game.

I didn't care for the game because the voices are terrible, the boss is to easy even on hard option. Also when playing against Nemesis sometimes you'll fight him in one room come back to fight him again after dieing and he'll be in a completely diffrent room all the way on the other side of the building your fighting him. Also zombies are way to easy to beat they should be harder or there should be alot more groups of them because it says all through the game and even shows in the begining movie that there is thousands of zombies but when playing the game you meet up with a zombie every 18 miles. This is'nt a game you want to buy unless your a hardcore RE fan.
