Resident Evil takes a turn towards action.

Resident Evil 2 is to date my favorite game on the Playstation console. Resident Evil: Nemesis is up there, though. I went in understanding that this isn't so much the next game in the Resident Evil series as it is a spinoff (and a damn good one at that).

This game is great for people (myself included) who played Resident Evil and found the challenge to be a little lacking. In this game the zombies move faster, upping their shuffling gait for a stumbling near-jog. Not to mention that there are more of them, and Nemesis is not a boss that you can just pump a few Desert Eagle rounds into, as Dr. Birkin was. Of course, the players are compensated: there is a new dodge feature, some interesting weapons (including the mine thrower), and Jill fires a bit faster.

The game does expand on the storyline of the unfolding events in Raccoon City. In particular, many of the questions of how the police were overwhelmed, what (else) Umbrella did during the incident, and how the U.S. goverment eventually reacts to this outbreak. However, the plot is a little more straightforward than RE2, and there is nothing to match the incredible FMV in RE2 where Annette Birkin brings you up to speed. That and the lack of the classic duel-disk duel-character format ensures this as more of a spinoff/side game than a full-blown sequel. (And as a small side note: the one other real disappointment I had was that there weren't any 'shock' scenes equal to, say, the grasping zombie arms in RE2.)

Finally, Capcom was worried that the game in its normal mode would be too difficult to the 'average' gamer. So they gave a machine gun with 3 clips to Jill in Easy mode, along with a shotgun, a magnum, first aid sprays, and unlimited ink ribbons. My advice? Try and tough out the Hard mode if you can. It's challenging -- but rewarding.

Finnaly, 'The 4th Survivor' has nothing on 'The Mercenaries'. Beating the game opens up a very entertaining side-game where you play as an Umbrella Mercenary, blasting your way from one side of Raccoon City to the other while saving hostages and fighting a timer in order to raise cash to 'buy' the special weapons on replays.

It's a great game. Definately worth it, especially to the RE enthusienst.

It's in your blood and should be in your video game library!

This Resident Evil has it all! The Mercinary Mode and secret costumes and... oops! I'm spoiling it. The difficlty gives you more of a challenge with smarter enemies and beautiful graphics. And enough puzzles for you to rip your hair out! DO NOT MISS THIS GAME. YOU MUST HAVE THIS GAME!

The Best S/H Game Out There

I played RE 1, and RE2 and i liked both of them. I still think RE2 is one of the best S/H games but when i played RE 3 i really liked it. So far i only rented it but the replay valuse is good, and i am probably going to get it. The graphics are great, from the cars in the shed, to the fire in the streets. It still has the annoying birds, but Nemesis is a really hard boss at times. I blown him up, shot him, everything but he doesn't stop. And all te items are good, the only thing i don't like is walking a long way then realizing an item you need is in the box at the save point and having to walk all the way back, but the puzzels are challenging, and i got stuck on a few spots, but it din't take too long. Yu can combine gun powder to make buttels too! Gotta buy this.

one of the best games ive played

i thought that this game was awsome! it blew RE2 out of the water. i thought that the suspence nimisis put you in was the best thing since RE1 the first one was better than the second one.sure #2 had its grafic advantiges but the story line was weak.but 3 you can mix gun powder to custimize your own ammo. nimisis poped out when you least exepected him to. and even if you did try to run from him you think your safe but just the he comes bust'in through the door with his big rocket lancher. and then the mersinares game how much more cooler can you get?

Fun as hell

Out of the three Resident Evil Games, this one has to be the most fun. It is the most suspensful and the puzzles almost make sense. In easy mode you start off with almost all the weapons and in hard you start off with a handgun and 15 bullets. Beat the game in hard mode and you unlock the merchanarie mode. I recommend it for any fan of Resident Evil games.

I bought this game recently and I love it. Whenever the bad thing Nemisis appears it scares me to death. The Nemisis can follow through doors, it has a rocket launcher, and he runs faster than you. I also like how Carlos is one of the bad guys but you also get to control him at times. Personally this is my favorite game. Anyone who loves scary movies/games will love this game. I recomend this game for the fun factor and the sound is great to.

Resident Evil 3 is lots of fun, but story can't beat RE2's

Resident Evil 3 was really a lot of fun. The graphics were great, easily the best in the series. The atmosphere is just as dark and eerie as the first two, possibly even more so. The game while heavy on action reminded me more of the first game, being much more difficult than the second game. The only problem I had with the game was the story. Is not that it is bad, it's just sort of more of a side story than a true sequel. But if you loved the first two chances are you will love this one too. I know I did!

A Brilliant instalment to the Resident Evil series

This is RE at its finest with an even better plot line than the last. This game goes back to one of its original characters Jill Valentine a former S.T.A.R.S member. Who is in Racoon City at the time of the zombie out break. The sites and some of the sounds are familar to RE 2 and are used in the same ways as before. This is not so much a scare game but it seems to let off steam with the horror aspect of the last instalment, even thought there are some scares which I must say catch you off guard at times. This is strangly enough in my view it is more of a fantasy game. The atmosphere is different and my view less tense than RE 2 this is better and would suite to a much more wider range of gamers.

The new foe in which you have to fight is called nemesis this hunter prays on S.T.A.R.S members. He is quick, much more intelligent than your average zombie. Believe me on easy mode he is a challenge and would take a real good gamer to defeat him on the hard mode. ( Remeber Jill is a former S.T.A.R.S member.) The puzzles are easy but at tmes can be challenging. Lots of back tracking is involed.

This game has some new features for one you can dodge and block the zombies and creatures also the "save" ribbon never runs out. (To the gamers advantage) also you can chose how a scene turns out with to selections and even a extra game at the end once the main game is completed which comes with a key in which there is clothes shop where you can change Jill's costumes. (Connected with the game the heigher your score is the money you get to buy weapons with infinite ammo.

Again the cut scences are wonderful and even better thand RE 2 this in many ways a big improvement with much more gore and a few connections to last game. This is very enjoyable a must play for fans of the Resident Evil series!

More detail, suspense, and puzzle pieces from Resident Evil2

For anyone who has not played this stellar game series, this is what you call a "survival horror" game, which means you have a gun, you are alone and you have 1000s of zombies, dogs, ravens, monsters and mutants after you. The third installment of the Resident Evil game series actually takes place before the second game, so you are writing the future, playing as the lead heroine Jill (who survived the first game). You start out on the streets of Raccoon City, which has been ravaged by zombies, and you work your way to the Police Station and back into the city streets, trying to escape the town, all the while being stalked by a huge ugly killer which appears every once in a while to give the player a scare. Unlike the other two games, Jill is armed to the teeth right when you begin the game. She has a handgun, shotgun, magnum and an assault rifle, however unlike the original two games there are not waves of zombies to go through, instead there are only a few zombies, but the city streets are like a maze, so there is lots of ground to cover. There are only a few improvements made from the first two games. In Resident Evil 2, there were only 4 types of zombies, with this game there are dozens of zombies, such as fat zombies, beautiful zombies and so on. There is also a new system where you can make bullets for certain guns, but there is no chance you will ever run out of ammo. Another nice addition is that the player can dodge attacks without the player's help. The graphics and sound are still excellent, but several graphics were taken straight from Resident Evil 2.
