One of the first ..... but not one of the best

Granted this game helped pave the way for more recognition for the MMORPG genre, but that doesn't mean it is one of the better MMORPG. The one thing I really couldn't stand was the horrible control of the veiw and the constant ... chat that was flowing through the screen. If you want to get a good MMORPG to get started ..... go with microsoft's Asheron's Call. If you want a really, really good MMORPG then wait about a year when all the well produced ones will be coming out.

its good if you stick with it

When i first got this game i was hooked, i couldn't pull myself away. I tried every race/class combination, and found my favorites (Puen, a lvl 9 druid, and Tamorf a lvl 14 warrior). I played to lvl 14 and started to get frusterated. Not much things to kill around this level (well at least that i didn't have to wait in line for). I liked it at lower lvls but after trying everything that got boring. The combat system sucks. You hit a and your person stands there and attacks for you. Bows and spells are nice in this way in that you have to do a bit different. I am sure that if i could break through 14 and up to, say, 20, it would have become fun again. But i couldn't stand it so i bought Black and White and canceled my acount.

Guees what the RP in RPG stands for.

EverQuest is a very differnt game from what I've seen. (And played)Before I say more let's do a little review here. RPG: R-Role P-Playing G-Game. EverQuest Is the heart of an RPG. Why? You have to think. I know it's scary. In this game you're not told to go find the mystic sword, bop the evil dragon king and save the princess. No, you see you're kinda in a way supposed to live the life of your character. Even if you can't edit your character a lot though. You basic get to do exactly what you want without changeing the story because......THERE IS NO STORY!!! So you're free to go drink a few short beers (Yes you can drink in this game) and ride a unicorn for all I care. (Plese don't try to do anything else to the unicorn after you get wasted) Thats what this game is about FREEDOM!!! Now for the three star reason. There is freedom, but no direction. You can just explore if you want but why? I mean it would make the game a bit better if there were like some secret magic shards spred all over EverQuest and if you find them you get to meet the gods of EQ or something. You can't edit your character that much either. Trade skills aren't that great either. (Except for fishing you can even spill your beer!) Anyway EverQuest is about exploreing, if you like discovering new areas and game where you can travel a lot this is the game for you. If you like being lead on a journey knowing exactly where your going next....go buy FF7 or something. Oh yes I forgot to mention that EverQuest is addective (Don't think I spelled it right but oh well) as much as people say. I suggest seting your watch for an hour when you start to play, when that timer goes off try to remember what you have to do today like eating or school/work or other humans. If nothing comes up time it for another hour and keep on playing. Now if you exuse me I have to go play Everqu- *BEEP* *BEEP* Oh yes food almost forgot.....

Fun but...

The great thing about Everquest is the fact that you can comonicate with others, and make partys. EQ has a great amount of races and occupations that you can be, and many contanents to explore. It also has an original attack system. So why only 4 stars? First of all this is an expansive game in which you pay a monthly fee. Second, by now the graphics are very last year. And finally, many people call this the most addictive gamme ever, I personally get very bord after playing for an hour. Do not get me wrong this game is fun. But I just do not think it is worth the price.

Great game!!

Before I start, I'd like to say to shoppers that you need to read the low star reviews to learn the truth of the game. I find the low star reviews much more truthful, and for Everquest, it's the same complaints, meaning it isn't coming from just one.

I tried playing for the 8th time, hoping I'll get into it this time. I stopped the first day. Why? Just by looking at the screen, I see 15 monsters roaming about, and I see no quests on the screen. What does this mean? 1) It's unballanced with quests and combat, 2) It's a hack-n-slash game.

I can't roleplay in the game, even in the roleplaying server. Your judged by how you look, and that is bascially who they know you as. Not that you're a lvl 50 warrior who has two children that are lost. And you're looking for them. Problem is they don't exist!

People argue its more than hack-n-slash, but you can quickly realize they don't want to face the truth that hurts. All I know is I wasted 12 dollars again due to all the continuous hype.

But if you love killing monsters, from day 1 to infinity, get the game. Just don't expect to roleplay or expect any worth-while quests.

Everquest is going to have you, literally, questing forever. This game is awesome. With all of the different races one can choose from, and all of the different classes, there are infinite possibilities to what one can be. This game is well worth the monthly fee, and I think that all RPG enthusiasts should buy it as fast as you can

Everquest is the best...of course there is room for improvement...and many people say Verant makes it unbearable to play the game, but if you wouldn't whine so much, Verant could do their jobs pertaining to programming the game, so much of even their programmers times are swallowed by customer service...

Regardless here are the pros and cons:

Pros: exceptional Class/Race selection Player interaction encouraged PVP optional Unique continents and cities MOBS unique to zones hunderds of zones, so if you are like me, and actually explore... the game doesn't have to be monatonous, it is only that way if you make it be... Exceptional tactics options based upon class and of whom your party is comprised

Cons: overcrowded servers/zones Campers, of course this isn't verant's fault, rather it is those who chose to do so, and those who do I will never understand...item camping is extremely boring Newbies (but they improve) visual options for characters limited till higher levels

Well, there it is...and my recomendation... Play and enjoy it, without complaining...and if you are to complain, quit playing, we don't want to hear you whine anyway

EQ is the best game i have played. i have played Ultima online, and Asherons call... they dont come close to the fun i have had in EQ. many of the bad reviews are from people that are burned out or out to ruin the reputation of EQ because they were banned for doing somthing they shouldent have been doing (harassing other people, exploiting bugs etc.) EQ is usually patched weekly, adding new aspects to the game as well as reducing bugs. in defence of verant GM's there are approx. 2500 people on each server and usually about 3-5 GM's. these guys are usually pretty cool if you dont push them to hurry up. every time i have called apon a GM, they have always been helpful. the only reasons someone should not play this game is if they are married and their spouse does not play also :) it will put an end to any relationships very quickly.
