Great potential but...

The whole game centers around collecting items by sitting and waiting 8-10 hours at a time in line with other players who want the same item from a rare creature that may appear once in a week.

The game has lots of potential but this focus of the game ruins any potetntial for roleplaying or strategy. It consists of lots of boring sitting and waitin for rare creatures to spawn and squabling with other players so you can get your character the best items. There dont seem to be any other goals in the game.

It could be a lot of fun if a comapany that had half a clue about gameplay and fun took over management of the game. This will never happen so it will never be.

A Glorified ten dollar a month chat room.

When I first purchased this game I had high hopes... for the first time someone had undertaken the task of taking roleplaying off of back room counters into the mainstream public domain of the internet sporting all sorts of bright lights and facinating colors. Then I played it and was utterly disgusted. The first thing id like to point out is that the game is just bad. From a single player viewpoint it has literally no plusses. It is not only devoid of any imaginary elements (yep same ole dwarves elves etc)but beyond the tenth level the game becomes impossible to continue without commiting an extra half of an hour a night to finding 5 other people to group and hunt with.. which brings me to the multiplayer element of EQ. If you have ever unwittingly wandered through the mainstream AOL chatrooms of old such is what you will find upon entering the realm of Norrath. Roleplaying? nada. If anything, anyone who tries to stay in charecter is automatically thought of as odd. To make matters worse the players you are forced to interact with in all have the maturity levels of 3rd graders. Beyond the player base though simply advancing through the game is nearly impossible without spending a minimum of SIX hours a day with it. Casual gamers need not apply there is no future for you. a person having achieved the highest rank possible in EQ has on average spent nearly 80 FULL 24 hour days in front of the computer screen. The icing on this very rotten cake however comes in technical support form or rather the lack of it. The GMs who supposedly run the game are worthless and help nobody and despite constant pressure from players change no elements in the game. Please for your sake do not waste your money on this trash.

I wish it could be 6!

This game is amazing, with a good serving of races and classes, from Wizards to Warriors, you can pick from many races...Humans, Elves, Trolls, Ogres, Gnomes, Dwarves...You get the point. People say its addictive? Well thats a gross understatement...makes all other games bow down. Its really a whole nother world, with 1000s of items and creatures to kill, or trade skills for the less violent type. The expansion adds a whole new continent which almost doubles the stuff to do...really, just give it a try and "Youll be in our world now"(inside joke, get the game and youll understand)

Quaim Arcanus-65 High Elf Arcanist
Darkhelm Quickblade- 63 Troll Warlord
Zigabe Frogflayer- 65 Troll Feral Lord
Fennin Ro- Blood of Honor

As good as it gets

I agree with the majority of the other reviews here. This game is the best I have ever played in my life. (Since Space Invaders). I have been playing basically non-stop since Beta 3. The game has evolved so much in that time. With this expansion, you get the entire Original game (70+ zones) and the Kunark expansion (20+ zones). The Kunark zones are the best ever made, and you can clearly see that the Development team at Verant is hard at work.

What's great about this game, is there is no cheating, they update and modify dungeons and zones that become less used. They constantly strive to make the game better, and they succeed. This game is actually way ahead of its time, so if you want to be part of the future of gaming order it now! You wont regret it. It is simply amazing.

Ashrons call (As mentioned by the above poster) is a joke, but if you want to play a toned down "Easy" rip-off made by Microsoft then by all means. AC is not a game that could hold my attention like EQ has.

Everquest: Ruins of Kunark is the game to get. Its more then a game, its an adventure.

Unstable and Buggy as Heck

A great expansion to a good game. ROK has the potential to improve some of the weaknesses in the original. Unfortunately, it is the least stable game I've ever played, and Verant customer support some of the least responsive.

On the technical support boards run by Verant, there are literaly hundreds of comments regarding individual bugs that are never responded to by Verant.

It took them about a year before they got Everquest to be stable. Unfortunately, this new addition brings them back to square one.

I have not been able to play the Everquest for more than 30 minutes since I installed ROK without the system either locking or freezing up. But I still keep trying.

A MUST have for anyone that enjoys role-playing games

Despite the dismal reviews people have of this product, it is still great. The game itself is outstanding, and will keep you playing for months and months. Most of the negative reviews concern the quality of the customer service. I will agree with them on that point, but they unfortunately blow it out of proportion and weigh it much too heavily relative to gameplay. Yes the servers are down relatively frequently (probably once a week) for maintenance, but usually only in the wee hours of the morning when most of us are in bed anyway. There are an unbelievable number of combinations of characters that you can select from, and it takes very very long to max out any particular character. It is very fun to team up with other people to take on the hundreds of different monsters in the game. I would recommend this game to anyone that has enjoyed a role-playing game in the past. This is the first (and only) online role-playing game I have played, and have enjoyed it immensely. You do have to pay monthly to play, but it is well worth it, and really not that expensive relative to how much you will be playing. I give the game 5 shining stars, but have to take away 1 for some of the customer support problems. I don't think there are as many positive reviews of Everquest as there should be because all the people that already own it would rather be playing than writing reviews on it!

The most addictive game ever.

I play Fnagaton Blazemaker on the Everquest server called Bristlebane. At least that's what I thought until I was totally sucked into this world. ;-) Since starting to play this game I have got to say it is the most addicative game I have ever played. I'm glad they are bringing out the expansion pack, it will only add to the enjoyment of an already great gane. You should but this at once! If you don't want to play games forever then avoid this like the plague. ;-)

DONT BOTHER!

This was a game with great potential, but the company that runs it is a complete waste of a buisness licence!

Thier idea of customer service is " the players are always lieing, and trying to cheat, so never believe them!"

You think im joking? check out thiere web sights some time!

The game is EXTREEMLY static! nothing ever changes, and the same creature drops the same loot all the time! so everyone lines up to kill the monsters with the best loot, and you somtimes have to wait literslly DAYS to get somthing you are after!

The servers are overcrowded, and there are almost no differences between the player races beside the apperance! a gnome warrior hits just as hard as a troll warrior of the same lvl!

Grouping is FORCED at higher levels, and contrary to what the book says, soloing is NOT supported!

Wait for Neverwinter Nights, or Shadowsband. or better yet horizon! all of thiese games are due out in the next year or so, and when they hit the market, EQ will dry up like an stale loaf of bread!

Fun at first, but....

Once you get this game, you'll be "WOW".But as time goes on, all you do is camp, camp, camp. This is no "Everlasting Quest" You will become forced to group, and become very frustrated at the class unbalance(unless you are a favored class of the developers)the rogues are just tone-downed warriors with useless throwing skills. It is somewhat fun until you get to know the areas well, which happens quickly. That is just some of the cons of this game.

Is this a game for Role Players?

I have been playing EverQuest for about 6 months off and on, and I have played almost every class to a certain point. All I can really say is that when I first got this game I would find abunch of roleplay, but that turned to disappointment being that almost 70% of the servers are filled with power gamers (Those that just hunt and don't roleplay). Sure I love this game, but if you want to find alot of roleplaying going on this is not the game for you.
