lots of fun

Just got this game after being disappointed with UT2003. I am liking it more each time I play. It's a lot of fun being able to pilot all the different vehicles and choose different roles to play. This is a team oriented game and is not designed to be a "frag-fest" type of game. Those kinds of players should stick to UT and quake. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of action and killing to be done but a good team will use medics, engineers, and defense properly. My only complaint is that the game demands very good hardware. I have a very good system and have had to turn down some details to reduce lag. Hopefully Dice/EA will continue releasing patches to improve performance and fix bugs.

The best game I Have ever played

I like WWII games and 1st person sooters, I have played a lot of them. But this is by far, the best game game I have ever played. IF YOUR COMPUTER CAN HANDLE IT. I recommend that you find out what kind of vidio card, and how much Ram you have before buying this game. Even if you only have the requirments for one of those, it would be worth it to buy more ram or a vidio card, just to play this game. As I said, this is the best games I have ever played.

You Gotta Buy This Game!!

Get your shoes on, and go out to buy this game. It's my first multiplayer game and it is fantastic. Imagine a live battle between 64 different players from all over the world. You can use guns, tanks, jeeps or planes. Fly like a pro after a few hours of practice. Or unleash a firestorm from your battleship. I'm terrible at games, compared to the hotshots. But, in this one, you can take it slow, hide behind buildings, and take out the enemy with your sniper rifle. As you skills improve, you'll be amazed to find yourself flying a plane. I was bombing an aircraft carrier last night after my first week. Have fun, and watch for MAD_GUNNER when you are online.

If you love games about world war 2 then you will love this game. The graphics are almost perfect and it has the best settings I've ever seen. You can drive in almost every vehicle there was in 1942. You can even drive in a submarine. What I do when someone jumps in a B-17 (Flying Fortress)is I jump in right after him because, I like to ride in a plexiglass bubble under the plane armed with two 50 Cal. machine guns.

Great, can't wait to buy it

I recently downloaded this demo as a celbration when building a new computer. One of my nerdy friends brags about BF1942 all the time. So I decided to try the demo, after half an hour of downloading, then installing i fired it up. This game is swweeet! It works great on my Athlon 2000 overclocked to 2400, with 1 gig of ram and a geforce fx 5200. I managed to get this stuff off of New Egg for 200 hundred dollars, what a deal. Thanx newegg. But besides that this game is killer, real physices and graphics keep you coming back for more, but make sure you have dsl or a cable modem, if you have dial-up just play off-line since you just ruin the game. And anyway single player is still fun. But the real treat is multplayer. My bro has a Pentium 2 Geforce MX 440 and 128 megs of ram. It is still very playable on the low settings, but it takes a while to load. So you really don't need a high end system, just a good connection and your set. Plus I never thought I'd get this comp before the doom 3 launch. Thanx dad for lending the money :p.

This game is a fantastic MULTIPLAYER game!

Have you ever played a 1st person shooter and tried to jump in a tank, jeep, etc., only to find out you can't?? Well, in BF1942 you can drive everything. It's what I was hoping Medal of Honor Allied Assault was going to be (based on their exagerated hype).

The game was written for Online play - nobody I know plays the single player mode. The "conquest" mode, where each team vies for control of certain objectives and you loose lives from the available pool if you fail to control a certain number of objectives, is great for encouraging team play. Nothing like storming an outpost with a buddy on your left, a buddy on your right, and a tank behind you for support. The ability to drive tanks, planes, APC's etc. add a whole new combined-arms based range of tactics that other games don't have. Period.

Also, your Function keys drive a menu of voice commands. There are quite a few - over 40 at least. At first I thought that would be kind of cheezy - but it adds to the team concept. It also ties in with the minimap in the top right corner of your screen (a minimap is something I've wanted to see in first-person shooters for a long time). When you issue a voice command, your icon on the minimap flashes. This ways when I hear "Enemy armor spotted!", a quick check on the minimap lets me know where I should be heading to (or running away from, depending on the weapons at my disposal).

Some servers support up to 64 people. Trust me, there's nothing like a 32 vs 32 battle for Berlin. Absolutely non-stop mahem. For more strategy, try one of the huge expansive maps such as Guadalcanal.

I personally have not had any problems with performance or bugs. However, you will want a speedy Internet connection anytime you play an online game. I have basic DSL (128/586) and it's pretty much lag free.

Get BD1942 before you pick up Medal of Honor, Return to Castel Wolfenstein, or any other game. You'll thank me later.

Fantastic Game, Crazy requirements

This game is such a rush, I can't believe there are other things in my life that I have to do other than play this game. Gameplay reminds me a lot of Return to Castle Wolfenstien, the online version. Add various weapons at your command, including vehicles, aircraft, troops at your command that can actually fight, and an assortment of small arms and you have got the years best gaming experience.
However, Electronic Arts really did a horrible job at making this a great game for many of the systems out there. How could they be so far off on the requirements for this game. I was running a 1.5 Ghz P4, 512 RRDAM, 64mb Nivida graphics accelerator card, which provided me with one of the worse performing games that I have every purchased. I upgraded the video card to an 128mb ATI Radeon 9500 Pro, and I can still not play the game at its highest settings. The system seems to keep up fine at the medium setting, but I don't see how a game with a minimum requirement of 500 Mhz, recommended requirement of 800 Mhz, can run so [badly] on my 1.5 Ghz. Have tried all the patches and updates, still doesn't seem to solve anything. Makes you wonder how they will make the game for the XBox that barely has the recommended requirements.
Although, I was torqued about this I still love the game, just make sure that you have a fantastic system.

Best War Simulation Game EVER!

This game rocks!

First of all, the physics are not terrible. The game doesn't have "auto-aim" like RTCW, plus if you move AT ALL, your accuracy goes way down. This is visually represented by your crosshairs, which widen when you are moving to reflect the wide spread of possible bullet locations. When you are stationary, your crosshairs narrow to almost a pinpoint, so you can have deadly accuracy.

People who say, "I run across an enemy and empty a clip and they drop me with one shot" know nothing about the game. You can't hit jack while running unless you are quite experienced and learn both how to work around the bullet spread factor as well as your own personal lag to the server you are on.

As for planes, most of the good pilots come from flight sims, and call the plane physics and controls adequate but overly simplistic. Almost nobody says the planes are too hard, unless they are using old 1980's arcade games as their reference point.

And as far as no teamwork goes, what sever are the naysayers playing on? I have no idea. The EA servers have friendly fire off, and the private servers usually have a moderator that will kick or ban troublemakers.

The demo is fun and will give you an idea of the game's possibilities, but please note that there have been several patches which improve the netcode and adjust the weapons balance. Don't bother with the single player demo - the developers have said all along this game was written to be a multiplayer game. The single player mode is basically just for practice.

The few bad reviews give a false impression of the game. Buy it NOW - but be prepared to be glued to your PC.
