If you are a fan of horror games, or just a fan of a good First person shooter, with a twist, this is the game for you. Ofcourse there is the typical FPS fair, such as shotguns and pistols, but you can also cast spells, and you can alter the strength of each cast, and in some cases the modes of the conventional weapons. This is done quite seemslessly, and in no time you will be using these features like it is a common aspect of games. The fact that the controls are so easy to get use to but, definitely adds something unique is a great thing. The good news of an excellent game such as this getting, looked over by mainstream gamers, is that it is cheap for you. If you are tired of the recent trend of releasing big name buggy software, and you are looking for a excellent game that you can play from start to finish, and be scared and entertained, this is the one. This is not for the young, or squeemish, mind you, but it is for those looking for fun.

Awesome Game

This game is actually like an addiction, there is loads of crazy non stop action, gore like you wouldn't believe, and a [great] storyline. I was actually temped to turn my computer off and hide under my bed it gets that freaky. The scary sounds total complement the game's erie atmosphere. I recommend this game to anyone, even if you are not a horror fan. The controls were awesome, using the lift mouse button for your weapons and the right hand button for spells(great for fast attacking). The characters are great and you have the ability to gaze into the past and see strange events that have happened long ago. Buy it Now!!!

Clive Barker, you are one sick mofo !!!

Ok, I picked this game up (for cheap) because I thought it looked like fun, but little did I know... later that night I would be turning on more lights in my place and double-checking that the doors were locked. Playing this game late into the night FREAKED me out. I won't give away anything when I say that early on, when our hero (you) confronts some only-from-Clive's-twisted-mind werewolves-on-speed-like creatures called Howlers, the tone is set for the pensive state you will find yourself in for the rest of the game. As others have mentioned, the sound in this game alone is amazing and can set your nerves on edge. You start to identify certain sounds with different horrific adversaries, and they bleed those sounds in slowly sometimes, so you know - IT'S COMING FOR ME - but you can't see it yet! (...) but I found myself constantly running to hide until I could gauge the situation and figure out my plan of attack. I haven't finished it yet and I shudder to think what evils Mr. Barker and the good folks at EA have in store for me. The only thing that sucks, and I mean SUCKS (not in a good way) is that apparently the game didn't do well at all, so they cancelled plans for continuations of the story. Come on, EA, kick the marketing department's arse for dropping the ball and bring this sucker back to life!

Leave in on the shelf

I'm sad to say that Undying does not live up to the hype. Compared to many of the games I've played lately (Alice, Blade Of Darkness, Vampire The Masquerade, Heavy Metal) on the same computer, its graphics are poor. I admit the enemies are high quality visuals, even though the final boss looks like a ridiculous Creature Feature reject. But the uninspiring backgrounds consist of blocky architecture and blurry details. The motionless 16 bit graphic skies with visible seams are inexcusable. Note to game developers: Put the Unreal engine to rest already.

Enough about the graphics, Deus Ex was no beauty queen but it was a darn good game. So let's talk about Undying's game play. It's completely linear, which you are constantly reminded of by all the doors that don't open and the inability to backtrack. You've walked into a room with 4 doors, only 1 of them opens...which way do you go??? Despite the obvious routes, the pace of the game is rather slow because every couple of minutes the screen turns black displaying the word "Loading" for five seconds. All objects (i.e. tables and chairs) in the game are static so your only interaction with the environment is shooting. The addition of casting spells is no new innovation, it simply amounts to what would be more weapons and power ups in another FPS. The AI is juvenile. Enemies simply run straight at you and their location is predictable when replaying an area.

The level of violence in Undying is much less then one would anticipate for a horror video game. When you attack an enemy they simply fall down, radiate a little red stuff and fade away. Even lopping off heads with the scythe is unsatisfying. Kingpin and Soldier Of Fortune fans everywhere are laughing! The story is laughable as well. In all fairness, most computer games have silly stories but this was the one area of Undying where I expected Clive Barker to shine through.

This game is supposed to be scary??? I guess I just haven’t fallen for the marketing ploy of Barker's name and a big yellow warning sticker on the box. ... The only positive thing I can say about it is that the uninstaller works great.

In a nutshell, this game is worth the price. Don't let other reviews that scream about bugs and difficulties. I've played through the entire game (without cheats, I might add) and found absolutely no bugs, no lagging, no delayed controls. If anything such rumors are probably more attributable to the users' systems, and not the game itself. This game is scary, atmospheric, creative, and fun to play. The ring menus provided a seamless interface, and I found myself using tactics that involved me changing weapons and spells in the midst of heated combat! Between blows of howlers and decayed skeletons, I'd flip-flop from shotgun to pistol, or from ectoplasm to invoke spells, and use those before the next blow landed on me. Smoooooooth. And the style is fantastic, as well. I haven't found myself jumping out of my chair since like that since I first played Half-Life. Buy this game. If you ever enjoyed gothic horror, or a 3D FPS game, or both, or neither, it's worth it. Even my girlfriend loved playing it, and she hates computers!

Too scared to play it

This game is terrifying to play. If you don't mind being scared out of your wits this is the game for you.

It is truly beyond creepy. I loaded the game and played it for an hour then uninstalled it because I couldn't take the tension anymore.

Buy it if you go for that sort of thing.

Great Atmosphere and fun if you like to jump..and Jump...and

Pros: 1. A spooky mansion with neat monsters 2. Great graphics and fun spells that have to be used interactively. 3. Tons of rooms and objectives Cons: 1 Too often a simple thing like jumping up on something is so hard you will either be bored to death or abandon that part of the game altogether. In one place we estimated that about 2% of the entire mouse area resulted in a productive hit. Boring! 2. Weapons changes can be slow and cumbersome even on a 1.5gig P4 system with 256 Ram and a Geforce2 Ultra 64MB. 3. Too much loading everytime you went to a new room. 4. Given the problems with weapons, reloading and jumping, if you hit a complex puzzle it was very difficult to figure out exactly what you were doing wrong.

To best enjoy this game....get the hint book and use it frequently....It will at least tell you whether spending an hour trying to jump on something is worth it.

The scariest, coolest FPS I've played since Half Life.

I'm glad the folks that made this game are full of originality, because I can't fathom creating something as unique and excellent as Undying. I echo all the reviews on this game (gamespot.com, gamespy.com, gamepower.com) and share in their enthusiasm on the Undying experience!

There's no such thing as a perfect game, but Clive Barker's Undying is the single most rewarding PC game I've played since Half Life. While solid games like Dues Ex, No One Lives Forever, and Sacrifice made strong statements in gaming convention, not one of them left me feeling quite as rewarded (or scared) as Undying. From the minute I cracked the box open, I felt like I was being pulled into another world.

Casual and hardcore players alike will love what they see, even when it scares them more than any game ever! I highly recommend picking up this game.

A Good Game

Pros:
-rich color, nice looking water, beatiful maps
-good story
-good spells/weapons

Cons:
-slow at first
-reloading of maps

For the price, you can't expect to find a better game. The colors/textures are fantastic and help to make up for somewhat blocky models and landscapes. Water looks really nice. The settings of the various episodes are really fantastic, scenery is gorgeous. This game may even challenge your graphics card.

The story is good, you have a concept of purpose and aren't just killing things pointlessly. The maps are very enticing to explore - the mansion, monastery. The weapon's are ok, the best being the scythe. At the beginning, gameplay is slow for a while, but a little before you get the scythe, the pace really gets going. One annoyance is that when moving through the mansion, the game has to reload the map for various sections.
