What was I thinking??

I have played many games in my day ranging from the early internet muds to Baldur's Gate and all the in between, and this is by far the best game I have played. My wife used to get frustrated because I would play on the computer rather than watch television with her, as she is not a gamer... but then I made my fatal mistake... I let her play. From that point on I had to fight her for the computer just to get some EQ time, to the point where I bought a second computer just to play together and get some time on of my own. This game can be addicting (as my wife found out) but it is also excellent fun for the occasional evening. Thanx EQ.

The description for Shadows of Luclin specifies "Platform: Windows 95 / 98" It also indicates a release date of December 4, 2001. Upon checking with Verant regarding Windows XP, the reply was short and to the point: Windows XP is not supported.

Ok, let me explain. I have never written a review for anything but EQ is well worth it! I started playing EQ about 2 years ago and cant stop. I only work and play EQ. My life is dead! I wish I could stop playing but the game is so addicting. If you are married, Get ready to sign those divorce papers. You will lose all relationships and make alot of peeps mad at you. EQ WILL RUIN YOU! I have never played a game like this. I bought DIABLO 2 to get me out of it but NOOO! I played DIABLO 1 hour and uninstalled it! With Shadows of Luclin coming out, I dont know what I will do. Will I quit work? I cant cause that pays for my EQ? I will take off 3 weeks when it comes out. IT WILL BE EVEN BETTER AND THATS HARD TO DO!... BUY THIS GAME NOW!!! OR YOULL REGRET IT! /shout TRAIN TO ZONE!

Very addictive!!!

At first I really didn't care for the game because I failed to read some of the internet sites on how to stay alive, so I died a lot. Once you get the hang of it the game is great. This expansion will improve the graphics ten-fold and once again add more room to explore. This is by far the best RPG I have ever played. As for the monthly fee it comes out to 33 cents a day, less than a coke. One last thing, the people that play this game are great. It's amazing how many of them will help you even with so called stupid questions. If you play then it's a no brainer that you will get the x-pansion. If you haven't tried everquest give it a shot. The basic game is $10.

Its what you make of it

People who become wildly addicted to the game, would become addicted to anything that captured their interest. Everquest just happens to be their drug of choice. One can't blame the game.

I work full time, but can but put in a few hours a day during weekdays (I'd be watching TV otherwise) and invest full days during weekends if I have to. This, admittedly, is hard-core. But to fully enjoy some of the game's best features, this is sometimes necessary. I'm young, why not?

As for the harsh criticism that this game is nothing but leveling up, that's like dismissing life as just going to school. That is too limited a view. The point of leveling is so you can go questing for items and exploring, and to interact with people. Just like using what you learn in school to make something of yourself. That is the point. That is what makes it worthwhile.

Verant and Sony bring us another winner.

Verant and Sony, 4 years ago, brought us Everquest. Since the past few years they have expanded the game from Everquest: The Ruins of Kunark, to now Everquest: The Shadow's of Lucilin. Lucilin looks like the #1 RPG (role-playing game) for the computer when it comes to graphics and gameplay. Now, when I first heard about the game from an Everquest website, I looked at some pictures from the game and they look fantastic. A totally new compatible race and class is open to explore and adventure with, along side a new moon of the Everquest world of Norrath. I have played Everquest for almost a year now, it has not cease to amaze me with its new wonders and horizons there are to explore. Lucilin should probably be a big hit, but there is one catch to it... Older computers may not be able to hold all the memory that this game may require. Therefore I shall not be purchasing this game until my parents decide to buy a newer computer =) I hope this review helped with your decision on buying this game.

Everquest is an outstanding value!

My wife and I have played everquest for over two years and I agree that players can spend a great deal of time online playing this game, but people spend a lot of time pursuing less engaging forms of entertainment. The value of EQ is outstanding when compared to other forms of entertainment. Consider this, the average American watches 3 to 4 hours of TV per day, and EQ players can easily spend that amount of time on line. EQ Costs a fraction of what it costs to run Dish 500 TV or something similar. Also, it is more expensive for my wife and I to go to one movie a month than to have our EQ accounts. On a cost / hour basis EQ is a steal, and in EQ players must interact solve problems etc. When watching movies as well as sports or sit coms people are passively entertained.

How one spends his free time is a relative thing it boils down to what one you enjoy doing. If you are a couch potato or an EQ Fanatic do try to get out and get some physical activity. Variety is the spice of life!

I dissagree. This is a sad case, indeed, but it isn't that addictive. Plus, it's an easy addiction to fight. It's not like smoking, or some vile thing like that. It's something you do in your spare time, after your work is done, to unwind a bit an relax. It's fun, and the higher you get, and the more expireienced, the more fun it gets. There are some hard spots, but it's mostly just a fun game to play when you're tired and don't have the energy to do other things. I personally think it's a wonderful game and it was a great addition to my life.

Excellent game, dangerous game.

I'm a 36 yr comp geek. I've played a LOT of games, including MMORP's. If you buy it, you will love it. The money you spend will be TOTALLY irrelevant. Believe people when they say that it can ruin a relationship and/or obliterate a real social life. Its not like twitch games like Quake that you can put down and go to dinner. It's all about sensory and immersion, and it does/will do it well. If you expect to find a love life, turn away now. If you already have one, and they're not serious game/computer geeks, start practicing the phrase, "Hi, my name is xxxx. Its been xxx days since I last played Everquest" and imagine youself getting out of bed after they fall alseep to "just make the next level," because it will happen. If you already spend a lot of time alone and expect to continue to do so or just need to escape, this game is spectacularly fun.

Addicting for a good reason

Everquest is a game which has pretty much revolutionized the MMORPG by drawing hundreds of thousands of gamers into an immersive fantasy world that some find hard to leave.

Every time a new game comes out AO, DAOC, etc. everyone predicts to downfall of EQ but it never happens and this expansion will put EQ back on the same page as these new games graphics wise. In addition to the new eye candy this expansion also brings with it a new race and an entirely new class the Beastlord. This new expansion takes place on the moon and promises many new zones for all levels 1-60.
