EQ can be a fun, social game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 32 / 36

I agree with EQ 12 Step Program that many people play this game only to level up and that it sucks the fun out of the game, and can have negative impacts on your real life.

HOWEVER: If you play this game once or twice a week with a set of friends who will similarly self limit, it can be a very fun, graphical alternative to the old-school D&D table top game. The fun of Everquest is TEAMWORK with friends (or strangers) to acomplish a goal (quest, item, etc.)

The downsides mentioned by "EQ 12 Step Program" happen when the player cares more about status achieved by awesome items and being 60th level. But when the game is approached as a social teamwork video game, it is very challenging and rewarding to play. There are also many guilds in the game that develop real friendships and are strongly geared towards roleplayers.

I'm 25 year old female, and EQ is a LOT of fun if approached with the correct attitude. If you want a game that you can "beat", this isn't it! But if you enjoy the journey, the interesting monsters and sceneries, and the social aspect of playing games with friends, and if you provide your own roleplaying, you will love it.

I wouldn't recommend this game for anyone below age 18 or so, because I believe it is too difficult for children to see past the never ending greed for loot and pride in leveling, to the potentially positive aspects of this game.

I hope this review was helpful and added perspective to the game.

EQ is more then a game. It is a hobby! Just like crafts, cooking, quilting, building models, whiddling... or whatever else you may do. You invest time in it, and in return you get pleasure and satisfaction from your time. Some folks have written reviews here saying EQ is . But the fact of the matter is, EQ is nothing more then what you make it. If you don't have self-control and discipline, then EQ may rule your life! That's not EQ's fault.

I recommend this game to ANYONE who enjoys or might enjoy the sort of entertainment that it provides. Worst case....you spend a little money and don't like it, best case.... you spend a little money and find a new hobby that's cheaper then drugs, safer then any sporting activity and a great filler of free time.

... in the end, it's software, nothing more... enjoy it for what it's worth.

The Best Game I have ever played period!

I have read the posts here and just had to give my 2 cp worth.I am a 34 year old father of 3 and married for 14 years. I own my own home improvement bussines and have other hobbies. As for this game ruining your life {please!!!!}.if this game ruins your life you need a life. I have been into role playing sence i was 12. I am the commander of the 58th penn. vol civil war reenacting unit. and find this game most enjoyable. If your looking for blood and guts go to Q2,Q3 and unreal. But if your looking for stratigy and role playing with the minium of violence then this is the game for you. and there are alot worse things that your kid could be doing then sitting at home with you playing a good role playing game . BTW my wife and kids enjoy watching me play the say its like watching a movie. So yes i will buy the next chapter in the game good luck and good hunting .

Unlike everybody else obvusly I think EQ (EverQuest) Is the Greatest. Yes It Is Highly Addictive (...)yes you spend a lot of time on it but there is a plus in my eyes you get know people from around the world and become best friends with them but as for ruining lives i have yet to see that. Addiction Is In The Mind Of The Beholder

Oh what a game!

I've been playing EQ for 6 months, have 4 toons and one that is lvl 56. I use to watch my bro play and knew if he ever got me to play I would get hooked, after watching him play for over a year and criticizing him for not having a life, being a bum etc., he started a barbarian for me and yep, I got hooked. Now I understand what all the fuss is about.

Is it good or bad...it's neither. Look so many people argue about what's right or wrong. It is what it is, it's an experience so don't over analyze it. If you enjoy it do it. That's why we're Americans! If you're plagued and have all the demons in your mind telling you you're an addict, well, what can I say, see a shrink, but PLEEZ folks let's not point fingers at the game or anyone else. So many speak of addiction...let's define it to better uderstand the argument.

Addict 1) To apply or devote (oneself) persistently or habitually.

Uhhh, ohhh, hmmmm, sounds like me :)

And the countless millions who engage in whatever activity they do repetitively, T.V., sports, online chat, work, drugs, sex, et al.

In all seriousness, take responsibility, practice moderation, have fun, live and let live!

P.S. Buy EQ! LOL :P

It's too late

Friends, please carefully consider the consequences of purchasing ANY of the EverQuest products. Before I got involved in EQ, I was a happy man with a life and lots of outside interests to occupy my time. Since I got involved in EQ almost two years ago, my life has changed. The official name of the game is EverQuest, but it is referred to as EverCrack, NeverRest, LevelQuest...and so on.

This game is more addictive than pharmaceutical grade cocaine. I find that my real life friends no longer worry about including me in parties or get togethers...because we are all online now.

I have found that my guild family provides me with fun, entertainment, and companionship. We talk, we hunt, we tell jokes, we enjoy each other's company and it is all done within the realm of Norrath. My friends and I no longer talk about football or basketball. We discuss strategies and conquests in EverQuest.

One last word... please carefully consider your actions friend. Clicking the button to purchase this product could drastically alter your life as you know it. I have ALL of the versions of EverCrack, and will continue to buy them as they come out. I am an EQ junkie, and I freely admit this. My qualifications for reviewing this game? Hmmm... two separate accounts with 4 level 50+ characters as well as several others of varying levels.

Good luck to you friend!

Ok, let me explain. I have never written a review for anything but EQ is well worth it! I started playing EQ about 2 years ago and cant stop. I only work and play EQ. My life is dead! I wish I could stop playing but the game is so addicting. If you are married, Get ready to sign those divorce papers. You will lose all relationships and make alot of peeps mad at you. EQ WILL RUIN YOU! I have never played a game like this. I bought DIABLO 2 to get me out of it but NOOO! I played DIABLO 1 hour and uninstalled it! With Shadows of Luclin coming out, I dont know what I will do. Will I quit work? I cant cause that pays for my EQ? I will take off 3 weeks when it comes out. IT WILL BE EVEN BETTER AND THATS HARD TO DO!... BUY THIS GAME NOW!!! OR YOULL REGRET IT! /shout TRAIN TO ZONE!

Hmm..

I think this is going to be great, finally a change in the graphics on this game. Also, another continent to explore, and see the cool new designs to the world. And most importantly.. a new part of the vast, contineous, extradinary Everquest story. So far, Verants additions have been VERY satisfying.
And about the people who keep writing bad reviews because they get addicted:..

Hehe.. I keep reading reviews of people completely dissing the game because they can't handle what it does to their social lives. All multiplayer games are like this, they're made for addictions, and to get their users to play at all hours. Those who cannot handle this game have a personal issue, not everyone treats the game like alcohol or drugs, and gets addicted to it and ruin their lives. I myself balance playing sports, keeping grades up, and playing Everquest (2 level 50s, and one 30).

If you don't buy this, then you're not an addict!

I've been with everquest (LevelQuest, NeverRest, EverCrack, etc) for about 2 years. The game is amazing, when you first begin to play you could not POSSIBLY imagine how diverse and just grossly large the world or Norrath is, then once you get up beyond level 46, you won't even have to stay in Norrath, because there are planes of existance that you can travel to... but now, with this expansion they are fixing the biggest flaw the game has (since it was released in 1997-1998, they are upgrading the graphics engine. This will in my opinion make this game perfect. Much Kudos to Verant and Sony Online Entertainment for taking this huge step. Now, maybe I can quit sleeping all together.. =) (...)

Very addictive!!!

At first I really didn't care for the game because I failed to read some of the internet sites on how to stay alive, so I died a lot. Once you get the hang of it the game is great. This expansion will improve the graphics ten-fold and once again add more room to explore. This is by far the best RPG I have ever played. As for the monthly fee it comes out to 33 cents a day, less than a coke. One last thing, the people that play this game are great. It's amazing how many of them will help you even with so called stupid questions. If you play then it's a no brainer that you will get the x-pansion. If you haven't tried everquest give it a shot. The basic game is $10.
