Very Addictive

This is the best game I have ever played. The majority of the people playing it are 20+ years of age, not young kids. Not only do I pay the [...] a month, I pay [...] a month for two seperate accounts. I have both kunark and velious enabled on both accounts with a 52 warrior and a 49 druid on seperate accounts. This game is very very very addictive. My wife hates it. I find myself rushing home after work on the nights she works late to hop online because once she gets home, I must log off or die *sound of whip cracking* The graphics on the Luclin expansion look amazing - not that they were ever too bad to begin with.

I also play Anarchy Online. This is a decent game, but that's assuming you can ever get online. I'm sure the stability will improve over time, but there isn't really anything I have found in it that makes me want to leave everquest.

If you are a gamer/computer geek with no life and looking for something to pass the time, this game will do just that. If you have a family/girlfriend/or anybody that actually cares about you - click the buy now button with caution. The world of Norath is so huge, that I still haven't been to every zone in the 1 1/2 years I have been playing it.

The friends you make on this game are great too. People are, for the most part, very kind and helpful. There is common etiquet and most everybody abides by it. You can join guilds, like clans, and meet people that will do nearly anything for you - much like a family. You can go on raids to different planes of existance to fight gods.

All in all, a great game. You will however finding yourself thinking about this game at all times (I have even dreamed about soloing Trak and such...)

BUY IT

Horrible Frame Rate, semi-okay expansion

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 4 / 6

First, do NOT get drawn in by the graphics. They may look somewhat decent, but, I assure you that you'll "never" get the chance to fully enjoy them.

On systems with video cards with 128 MBs of video ram, the frame rate STILL lags. No, I'm not joking! It's that bad. Varant has historically done horrible with their 3D engine.

That said, there are some very, very nice looking zones in the expansion. Some areas down right beautiful and you'll find yourself enjoying the scenery for awhile. Of course, you may be enjoying them at the same speed you enjoy a screen shot if your clipping plane is out all of the way so you CAN take in the full view, but, there's a few very impressive ones none the less.

Content is so-so. Newbies will love this (Paludal Caverns) as level up experience is insane. For higher levels, if you don't sink ENORMOUS ammounts of time (Vex Thal key) for raiding, you'll experience semi-decent zones.

The story is okay. There is a great deal of it in here, but, it never really comes out in game play.

From the few quests I've seen, they're a little interesting. There are newbie quest items (Twilight Sea) & higher end (that "evil shaman" skull shield quest, name escapes me), yet nothing that really jumps out at me. The (as current) stumping Zevfeer quest seems like it could, though suspicion exists that it's broke (and some parts currently are, with a certain NPC poofing instead of responding to quest-related text).

The Bazaar zone has 500 people in it, on average. I don't care how good your computer is, you will be staring at the floor or the wall, or you'll have a screen shot slide show (ultra low frame rate). :D

All in all, if you do get this, you will be using it for: Bazaar trader zone, leveling your newbies, and camping hours in each luclin zone for the VT key "quest" (the current end-game raiding zone). Outside of that you can get some good loot in zones like The Grey if you're higher level and/or have a good group, but, it's ultimately a so-so experience.

Use a top end (2Ghz, 1+GIG RAM, 128 MB card) system if you plan on doing anything remotely resembling adventuring in this, or you'll be stuck with a 15% or so viewing radius and/or options turned off like the rest of us.

EverCrack- the drug for every teen and adult

For all those who actually play Everquest, know what im talking about when i say Everquest is more of a drug, than a game. I am only 16 yrs old and know how to play the game well. This isnt the type of game where you constantly need a CD in your computer to use. All you have to do is install EQ, run the patch (it updates different problems or revises items or spells to ensure the best playtime possible), and sign up. Sure, theres a $50 dollar fee for 6 months of play, but your money is well spent. As of now, there is only one world in EQ, Norrath. Inside Norrath, you can choose from a dozen characters and you can choose from several classes (like a rogue, warrior, magician etc.) Each race may not have the same classes due to historical backgrounds or even intelligence. Theres near a dozen cities, 5 continents, parallel dimensions (where the gods live), and over 112 zones. Don't believe me? Go to www.eqatlas.com for maps on all the zones (areas of land) and info on what creatures and items you can find there. Now, if youve read this far, then you have probably gone farther than i would've before i played the game. With everquest, you can decide how evil, good, strong, smart, and even what you character looks like. There are thousands of weapons and item combinations in the game. Everywhere from tattered cloth to holy armor that you can only get off a creature in the deepest and darkest of places. There is also alot of EQ jargon that floats around, and trust me, if you get this game, you'll catch yourself saying it out loud to someone. Don't get discouraged, you'll learn the terms in no time. Since this is played entirely over the net, every other player is someone in real life. This means you can hook up with other people to fight harder creatures. they can help you when your dying, and you can talk to them and make friends in the game. I myself play on the PVP teams servers (servers where you can kill other players) and its a whole other world compared to the other servers. Servers are like chatrooms. Each one containing the world of norrath. If you make a character on say, Innoruuk server, and you go on the Morell Thule server, he wont be there, or your friends wont be there. Its like crossing into another dimension. PVP servers allow you to kill other races. Which i have just gotten into, and i think its fun as anything. It's also alot harder because ppl kill each other ALOT. but anyway, enought of my babling. There are many secrets inside the game, i wont tell you all of them because i only know some of them. Everytime i play, i solve another secret or learn something new.The new Shadows of Luclin expansion will just be another great big secret for every EQ player, newbie or experienced to discover. So if you have any questions, or you get the game and need help, just give a shout out to these characters. If you go onto the Innoruuk server: chicamacomico-woodelf warrior maroonwolffe- half elf druid and on the vallon zek (PVP teams) server: the almighty and powerful dwarf slayer, WASKAWY wabbit (yes, you get last names when your high enough). well, i'll see you all in game. just another EQphreak

All For The Fun

This is actualy a great game. I dont base my life around it like some people do but I do play when I can. If I have the choice of a part or the game I take the party but it's a great thing for your free time. The best thing about it is that you play it with a massive amout of REAL people. Unlike other games these ones are real. I often group and play the game with strangers on the game. You talk to them like if you meet them cause you realy have. Often I'm walking in a city and I bumb into the same player and we can share stories. I've never meet another character in this game in real life. But the option of guilds let's you become real friends with these people. It's the only game that is basicly intereacting with real people. You dont see their bodies but you see them in their words. That is all I have to say

A whole new world!

Everquest, (Some refer as Evercrack), is defently the best game I've ever had the chance to play. With its amazing multiplayer action and fun factor, it totally blows through the roofs. I've always been a fan of RPG's, and if you have the time and money, I would strongly suggest buying this game. I must warn you, if you get addicted, which will happen if your a true RPG gamer, you will end up finding yourself struggling to get things done. I'm talking about stuff realated to your job, school work, Girlfriends, and lack of sleep. So if you have all these going good for you, I really wouldn't recoment buying EQ. On further note, when I first bought EQ, and actually got on and played it, it was like a whole new world. Your mind is totally focused towards EQ, Your heart beats literaly twice as fast, all because it's a new experience. This effect will honestly last about 6 months. Then it's to the point where your so addictided, it comes natural for you to get on and play. It may not give the same effect as it did the first 6 months you played, but you will still enjoy playing it. This is the reason I only gave it a 4 star rating, Everquest does get old, or should I say it becomes a routine. Same thing day after day, that is really the only main problem with EQ. I'm Hoping SoL will change things, but I'm sure it will only for a while. So if you don't have this game, I really suggest you buy it and try it out. It is literally a Whole New World.

The same old thing over again

This is obviously what Verant had in mind when Everquest became a big success. Release expansion after expansion to keep current players interested (while still bringing in money by selling the expansion), and to reap in new players with the slogan "Hey! We have three expansions! Buy Everquest, plus all three expansions!". They are selling the expansion at almost full price of retail software ([$]? Come on now...), PLUS it almost guarantees that existing players will keep their accounts. The game will still become a big bore when the gameplay runs dry. Shame on you, Verant. I hope this isn't what happens to all future MMORPG's.

This is the best massive multiplayer I have EVER played. It won't take up all your time unless you let it; If you are a D&D fan this is the game for you. You dont have to hassle with rolls look up monsters AC etc. I would rate this above Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, and Ultima Online. The graphics aren't wonderful but EVERYTHING is getting better in Shadows of Luclin (The Expansion) More spells more zones more classes more races much better graphics and they might let you keep the old graphics if you like them better and still use the other advantages of the expansion. The only thing you Might say it is lacking in is you can only play one character at a time but this in turn encourages grouping and helping out other adventurers. If you dont like PvP (Player vs Player) they have many severs where you cant attack other players and if you do like PvP they have a variy of servers where you can fight against othere players. If your curious they let you play Warriors Rangers Druids Necromancers Monks Paladins ShadowKnights Shamans Bards. Classes can be WoodElves HighElves DarkElves HalfElves Gnomes Dwarves Humans Barbarians Iksar Troll Ogre and Halflings. With the expansion you will also be able to choose the class Beastlords and the race Kerrans.
Personally I play a level 35 rogue on the Tholuxe Paells sever send me a tell

I am a long time gamer and have been playing this game since the retail of it my brother got me into it and i have been playing since i believe August of 1999. I have popped in and out of the game and every time i come back theres better things! When Kunark came out there was rumor of the Iskar and a new race of Cat people. I was dissapointed that there wasnt a cat race, for i am a cat person rather than a lizard one. When i heard about the new expansion i was VERY excited about it i watched the movie clips and saw the screen shots and read about it. I am very happy about how everything is looking so far they have released pictures of Gnomes, Trolls, humans and the Cat race. Trolls no offence in the older versions werent that eye pleasing but now its like they are little cartoon characters! I am awaiting the shots of Wood Elfs and High Elfs, those are the characters i have. I want to pre-order this Expansion so i can be sure i have a copy because i know that when they hit stores theres going to be a mad dash to get it! =) I recomend this very much! One question still ponders my mind...how do the rest of us get up to the moon? They joked about gnomes tinkering some steam-powered rocket ships..even though that would be cute...my guess is there will be a portal or a porting spell that will be added to some classes list. i give this game 5 stars for the new graphics!

Worst customer service EVER!

Just wanted to add a note that Sony / Verant does not care about their customers. For the last year they have had multiple incompatibilies with Windows 2000 which was shown as a supported OS on the last addon for Everquest. They will not even acknowledge the problem much less fix it. I have gotten the run around, even bought new hardware on their recommendation (they were quick to blame hardware manufacturers before their own software). None of which resolved the problem.

There is a thread on their forum at www.everquest.com which shows a thread of 50+ posts of people having the same problems with Windows 2000, and the ignore it, and close the thread.

Its too bad, the game is great, but your product is only as good your people who support it.

Being Level 60

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 2

I have several characters, one of which is level 60 and has some of the best equipment. Many quests have been done, many hours spent every day just to get that next item or better weapon. I wont say EQ isnt fun. Some times it has its fun moments, guild raids/taking down things that are just too godly for you to even look at. The problem comes when you begin to get competitive with other people and to have the best items. This is where the expansions come in. Once all the hardcore players have the best items from one expansion they begin to get bored and either quit or twink as its called(give a level 10 character level 60 items)
So the breakdown of what this game is really about?

1. You sit in one spot kiling monsters over and over and over and over so that you can get that NEXT level (again so you can be competitive with friends and keep up with them) all so you can kill bigger monsters over and over and over to get the next
higher level..thus the term levelquest.

2. Kill gods/dragons so you can get better items so you can kill bigger things and thus get even better items. Eventually you run into the point where the items do not get any better. The only thing that gives the game its fun factor is doing this stuff with friends and seeing them get better. Of course there are loot whores. but that is something you see commonly at high level.

One warning about Verant, the customer service will do very very little to help you in many situations. I have explained things till I was blue in the face and had the customer service rep in game (aka guide) just not get it/ not care. Think of it like this, you kill gods/dragons and spend 3 months doing 1 quest all to have it be bugged and not work. You have customer service tell you: sorry cant help you, start over! dont want to believe it? call me a liar? you will see. this is just one of many many examples I could give.
The game is good but just remember: MODERATION IS THE KEY (dont stop taking showers/eating..i know ppl who have)
