A Final Fantasy For The Ages

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This is the Final Fantasy game that took the series from it's fantastic roots on the Super Nintendo into the heights of RPG legend. This game set the standard for RPGs in 1997, a standard which it has maintained since then. The combination of adult themes, superb deep characters, a riveting storyline, and simply unparalleled graphics made it the highest grossing RPG for the 1990s.

The story revolves around a host of memorable characters: the mercenary Cloud, his old girlfriend Tifa, a mysterious lady by the name of Aeris, and the malevolent Sephiroth (arguably the most celebrated villain in video games), the corporation Shira, and over all of this: the apocolyptic Meteor rushing towards the planet bent on destruction.

Simply put: buy this game...whether for the PC or the Playstation. Play it and realize the greatness that it is.
One of the best console games ever created.

Finally, you can play the greatest game ever on your PC!!!!

FF 7 has always been my favorite game in the whole world, in fact, it is my whole world. I play it everyday, but I was always sad, because I had to leave the playstation to go on the internet to read about and discuss FF 7. But not anymore! Now, FF 7 is out on the PC, and you have to buy it at any cost, so that you can laugh and cry and live the greatest experience of all time, the experience that is Final Fantasy 7, on your computer! Just thinking about it is making me tear up a little. I promise, you will not be disappointed. The stunning, gut-wrenching visuals, the passionate, heart-wrenching storyline, the exciting, ball-wrenching combat system, the absolutely awe-inspiring characters...nothing could be more perfect. You have not lived if you have not played this game.

Incredible

In a word: Magnificent! FF7 is one of the greatest games I have ever played. It's not that FF7 does anything different than other RPG's, its that it brings everything you had ever wished for in an RPG together in the same game. It has an engrossing plot that keeps you thinking. The characters are presented in a way that really makes you fall in love with them and find yourself caring about their well-being as the game progresses. The materia element of FF7 is probably the only feature that is a little ambitious and it works perfectly. Each weapon has slots in which you equip orbs (materia) which endow the character with magical abilities or summon abilities. There are many different kinds of materia as well, the trick is to find them all. The battle system is one that has been seen before. There's an ATB system in place as well as an 'overdrive' for each character similar to FFX. Again, it works perfectly and hardly becomes repetitive. There is at least 50 hours packed into these four disks. There is so much to be done and so many sidequests to attempt.
The graphics are archaic by todays standards, however it is easy to overlook them. The characters are blocky and definitely no where close to what is being presented today. But for its time, they were above average. Graphics does not make a game, gamplay does and this is where FF7 truly excels.
For most, this is their first Final Fantasy experience and is probably the most memorable. Again, not that it does much different than other games, FF7 just incorporates so many different elements like story, character development, plot development, numerous and engrossing sidequests with EXCELLENT incentives for those with much time to burn, and just an overall enjoyable experience that any game has yet to duplicate. Im sure most would agree that if a sequel were to be made out of one FF, it would be this one by far, not FFX. The story is THAT good. This game is highly recommended and its only like $9. So do yourself a favor and get this.

Very Rare indeed

(I not a kid I'm just too lazy to login) Back in the year 2000 I knew basically nothing about RPG's except they were slow and boring. That was until my friend told me about this game FFVII. He said it was a lot of fun and I should get it. I searched for it everywhere including places like EBgames and KB Toys (which I might add is a good place to find hard to find stuff). It must have been fate that I got the last copy at Best buy. I loaded it up to my new computer and found it to be great. I played it for hours and I never truly gave up on it. I had to replay it from the begining about 3 or 4 times because of viruses but it never stopped me from beating it. Oh yeah if anyone is from Allentown PA. Check out Staples or OfficeMax in the area. I saw a copy for 10 dollars a couple months ago. It is a must have for Gamers to get them into RPG's.

The Story is great, but the graphics are dated. The Chocobos are fun, but new computers need a patch to run it right.

No doubt the best final fantasy out there

This game is great. Dont listen to those lame-os saying how bad it is. If your an avid final fantasy fan, I would HIGHLY recommend this awesome game. This was the first final fantasy game I got, and its beyond greatness. Final Fantasy 10 may be the best in graphics, but c'mon, Tidus is a wuss. The main character of Final Fantasy 7 is cool and a tough guy, but also interesting with his past. Not to mention his weapons are wicked cool. However, I would rather recommend the Playstation version.

Pros

1. Awesome storyline. Deep and meaningful. It can get a little confusing though.

2. Great characters- Cloud being the main one. Hes cool and tough. He has a BIG past history. You have to play till the end of disc 2 to find out all of it. The others are cool like his female friend Tifa. Tough talking Cid and cold but understanding Vincent, and other cool ones.

3. Magic and Combat experience. Cool. Magic, Summons and special moves like limit breaks make this game exciting. Nice sound effects.

Cons

1. Well, the only thing is probably the graphics cant compare to ff 10, but the bad graphics only apply to when your running around. But the in-battle graphics are not bad. The cutscene graphics are amazing, maybe better than ff10.

Overall, this game is genius. Other final fantasy games I would recommend are this of course, 8 and 9. I hope someday they remake or have a sequel to this game for the PS2.

Best game ever but way too expensive!

Much like one of the previous reviews, I have not played this game in the longest time. However, with the sequel movie to this game coming out soon, I must once again weild the buster sword and play it again.

I have been searching my desk area trying to find the install disks for this game and have been SOL so far. But looking at the price that the pc version is going for . . . NO WAY! Don't spend hundreds of dollars on this game. Do yourself a favor and do one of the three options:

1) Buy the playstation version
2) But the limited edition version of the movie for a very expensive price, but you get a bunch of extra stuff including the playstation game
3) Download the pc game. Someone is bound to have it.

This is one of the best games ever made . . . storyline wise. When it first came out the graphics were top notch. If it was made like FFX, then it would be the greatest game ever, but you can't really complain when the storyline is so awesome.

Can't wait for the movie, Advent Children, to come out!

Simply one of the best rpg ive ever played

well 1st let me say that this game has a very good replay value. ive played the psx ver of this game. and let me say getting the pc ver. is well worth getting.. say if your psx brakes (like mines did) you got the pc ver witch will last much longer.. (and you need no memory cards on top of that) but for a price.. its price is kinda high but its for a reason. replay value ;-) & depending on what ver. of the game you get.. as far as i know there 3 diffrent ver. of this game for the pc. 1st there's the original triangle box set thats made by eidos the usa ver. 2nd theres the eidos platinum ver. witch is usa & asia vers. and last theres the EA asia pacific ver. of ff7 (witch is the one i own and yes its in english) all game patchs & mods works for all vers. of this game so there no need for worries on that part. theres only 2 probs that this game does has. the music & the gfx (graphics) well let me start with the music. if you have the psx ver of this game the music is slightly beter then the pc ver. you can get a midi synthesizer like a Yamaha XG SoftSynthesizer S-YXG50 4.0 for download on google. or a diffrent midi synthesizer of your choice.. i wouldnt use the one that comes with the game sence its kinda old.. that will make it close to the psx ver. now for the graphics is tricky if you have a newer gfx card the res for the game will look pixeled. en older gfx gard will look better then the psx ver of the game.. all i have to say is that if you love the FF games this one in my opinion is the best one ever made. parts 8, 9 and 10 comes no way near to ff7 (same go's for parts 3, 4, 5, and 6 compared to part 2 for the snes ver.) buy this game at any cost. trust me youll love this game.......

A mediocre entry in the FF series

When I first bought my PS2, I got FF10, FF9, and FF7. That was back in 2002. FF10 & FF9 I liked. Good stories & loveable characters. But FF7 was a drag.

Then I saw all the positive reviews ("best game ever"), so I decided to give FF7 a second playing in 2004, to impress me. But I still did not like it. IMHO the major flaw is that FF7 has too many "dry" sections where you fight-fight-fight and almost nothing happens storywise (example - climbing the 100-floor building of your enemy -or- the dumb section where you waste an hour finding a dress). In some sections, literally hours pass by with no story... it feels like a step backwards to the near-nonexistent stories of the original nintendo (1980's nes).

.

Also the Battle Engine - totally unbalanced. A good RPG will provide balance between physical & magical attacks, so they are near-equal. A good RPG will make each character unique with specific skills & weaknesses (like real people-some are fighters; others are healers). Not so FF7:

- it's all magic... physical attacks are worthless (about 1/4 the damage)

- and the characters are completely interchangeable. You can equip Fire3 to your man & Heal3 to your girl. And then the next battle, completely flip it around, so the man is the healer & the girl is the killer. And then flip it again! No individuality. Each character is identical. Plus *instant learning* and instant forgetting... not realistic at all.

.

Also, the story, while good, is poorly executed. It basically boils down to a meteor poisoning the planet's "health" - very simple concept - but the writer dances around & adds un-necessary complication. He takes 2+2 = 4 and turns it into 1-5+4-6+2-1+7-2 = 4. That's why so many gamers go, "Huh? What just happened?" It was a good story, but a lousy script.

Overall, FF7 is one of the weakest games in the FF series (inferior to the other PS1 game-FF9, super nintendo games FF4, FF5, FF6, even inferior to FF10). I'd recommend playing those other games first, before you touch this one.

This is probabley the greatest game ever made

FF7 was probabley the best game of the decade it had the most incredable story line you just can't stop playing it of all the final fantasy games this one has to be my favorite i found that the game control was good the story was the best part though by far the animation scenes' were well renderd and i loved the snowboarding segment on disc2 the frames were faster and more precise than any coolboarder game ever so if you love role playing games and are a die hard video game fan you must have FF7 it's the best investment you can make and is well worth any price.

There is a wonderful world to explore here.

In addition to being a great game to play, FF7 has the most varied and most interesting world I have ever seen. Instead of going through several cloned villages, every site is different, and there are many. Also, the Gold Saucer is an entire arcade in itself. And breeding and racing Chocobos is a stitch!
