A must for any Final fantasy fan.

It may sound cliched and maybe even a bit old, but Final Fantasy VII is easily the absolute most critical piece of software any Final Fantasy or RPG fan may own. Originally released almost two years ago, FF7 outperforms any previous Squaresoft game. In its translation to the PC, Eidos did a good job, correcting a few minor spelling errors. However, and this is a big however, you need a massive machine in order to play the game well. A gamepad is a must; also recommended is at least a P350. (The game tends to choke on non-Pentium processors.) As for the sound, if you take the time and hard-drive space to install the included Yamaha add-on (and I highly recommend that you do), you'll be rewarded with sound even better than the Playstation's. The FMVs are, admittedly, a bit messy, but it's better than missing them altogether. Additionally, the play control is a tad muddled at times. However, it's still an enjoyable product. "Game" cannot begin to describe this masterpiece; "experience" comes closest.

An incredible experience, far better on Playsation than PC

Square's Final Fantasy series of Japanese style "role-playing" games has won legions of fans around the world with its incredible storylines and profound philosophical and moral messages to players. Many people's lives have been changed just from experiencing games from this series. To veteran Final Fantasy players, this game is not likely to disappoint. In fact, the release of Final Fantasy VII vastly increased the popularity of the series outside of Japan, bringing it truly into the "mainstream" market of games (even though the heart of its appeal remains less mainstream).

This particular game is about the subject of "Life," and what it means to live, to exist, to have an identity. The main character, Cloud, represents a major leap in character development for video games. You will laugh, you will almost certainly cry, and you will be amazed. This is an experience you won't want to be spoiled. In light of this, I cannot with a clear conscience recommend getting the PC version of Final Fanatsy VII unless there is no conceivable way you could play the Playstation version. The reasons are that the game simply doesn't play anywhere near as well, the movie scenes are far less impressive, and the music is stripped of its beauty (this ain't no cheesy video game fare -- the CD soundstrack for this game actually reached #3 on the Japanese *popular* music charts!). If you absolutely cannot play the Playstation version, go ahead and get the PC version. The PC version certainly comes highly recommended and easily earns its five stars. But the true experience of this game as it was intended -- on the Playstation -- is really what the fanfare is all about. Remember that you'll be spending a good 50 hours of your time playing this game: experience it in all its glory.

If I could, I would rate this game over 5 stars, but I can't. This is by far, the best game ever created. It has a deep battle system, a great plot, killer gameplay, and huge birds. You must get this game! If you like it, you should get Final Fantasy VIII also.

This game deserves more than just 5 stars! This game is by far THE BEST game I have EVER played!Final Fantasy 7's storyline is wonderful! This is the first game I had for Playstation and I'm still waiting for another game to AT LEAST equal it's magnificence. The system of battling is the best i've seen. This game introduced the Limit Break very well to me.Final Fantasy 7,is the first game to really bring reality into it.From power-hungry Companies to the struggle of life living in the slums. The last thing I have to say is that:If your a fan of the Final Fantasy series and you haven't played this game, then you have no IDEA what you are missing!Play just 10 min. of it and you'll find that you've been sucked into a world of fantasy...and magic...beyond your wildest dreams....

Greatest RPG... no... game in the world!

Final Fantasy 7 is the best FF I have yet to play. I have played 8 and 9 also, but 7 has the best music, battle system, and junctioning system of all of them (not to mention the greatest story-line in the history of everything!). Besides a couple of translation errors, this game is perfect. I was introduced to Final Fantasy 7, 3 years ago, and I still do not know many things about it. So if your looking for a long challenge ahead of you, but not a challenge so hard that it sucks the fun out of it, you should buy this game, and before they stop selling it.

A Review Of The Computer Version...Not The Game Itself

If you want to know what to think of Final Fantasy VII the game...where have you been???

The computer version is, at best, a nice version of FF7. Hey, I could play it on my laptop, so alright!

But honestly, it's just sub-par to the PSX version. It's pre-rendered graphics are a bit fuzzy (essentially the background images) The character images are a little brighter and smoother, but then they feel out of place compared to the rest of the graphics. Personally, I think the 'graininess' of the PSX version lended to the overall atmosphere of the game, anyway.

I will tell you, if you want to cheat your way through the game, a nice 'save file' editor will do nicely. But then what's the point, really?

The point is, if you want this version of the classic, fine. It's good, and almost stands up there with the PSX version. But if you've never played it before, and you have a PSX or PS2, buy the PSX version. You'll be glad you did.

Better for the PSX!!

This is THE best Final Fantasy of all time (IMHO, hehe), but I absolutely *destested* this on the PC. Ick. Yuk. Ick.

The controls are sucky. The graphics aren't as interesting. Yes, they got worse than they already kinda were. LOL Everything's just slightly off on the PC version. Sorry guys. Back off Eidos.

Final Fantasy VII -- A Breathtaking Adventure

Sure we have some of the newer Final Fantasys out, such as Final Fantasy X-2 with it's amazing graphics and the internet playable Final Fantasy XI ... But there will perhaps never be a Final Fantasy quite like Final Fantasy VII. It is an amazing and breathtaking adventure, in a huge world that is quite beautiful. It has the most deeply involved and touching story of the series, which has not been matched by any of the other Final Fantasys. Not to mention it featured videogame history's most badass villian, Sephiroth. Final Fantasy VII was the first 3D Final Fantasy, one of the first 3D RPGs, and the first PS game to use more than 2 CDs. In this world of better looking games and newer Final Fantasys, Final Fantasy VII is definitely a must-have for any videogame collection or Final Fantasy collection!

absolutly fantastic

I was a tiny 8 year old when i first watched by older brother play this game, i am now 16, having now played it myself and i still find this game as brilliant as i did back then. unfortunatly, because i'm from Europe we always have to wait longer then everybody else to get games but this was definatly worth the wait. i've now played FF2,6,8,9 and 10 and none of then are even half as good as 7 was. worth every bit of its 5 stars and a must for RPG fans.

The BEST Final Fantasy game yet!
